This thread is the first of the Borgata Mayate Scouting Party and is for anyone ranked Associate -- all of you guys can join in, if you want. XD Citlali can also attend as Fae is aiming for the Mietitore co-rank. :3 Eris is about 40 days pregs here, so she has Darijus help her swim!

The sable hybrid stared across the strait that separated Salsola's mainland from the island they had staked claim to. She did not expect an invasion over the water, of course -- Inferni had no boats, and it would not seem anyone else in their neighboring packs did, either. Darijus, mute as he always was now, stood at her side, his ever-glum expression painted on his muzzle. His wound had been grievous indeed, but the hybrid had given him alcohol to soothe the pain and sterilize the wound. It had been a bitter and stinging type of liquor, not her taste at all, but with Dari's silencing, she was glad Molca had obtained it from the city. Dari had exhausted the bottle in a night, however, and the sable-hued woman had been forced to send her personal slave to the city again. The frail coyote would be gone a few days, Eris knew, but she would come back. There was no doubt of that within the sable coyote's mind any longer.

Darijus, on the other hand, required a special sort of care. She would never trust the mute wolf outside of Salsola's territory. He would not run -- she had seen to that. The nails on the innermost toe of each foot had been forcibly removed the same night of his silencing. The sable coyote had considered taking a finger, too, but she thought that might devalue Dari somewhat. After all, his value was in physical strength and ability. Now, however, there was no question that if he attempted escape (or even acted against his masters again) he would die. The sable coyote had made certain to make this perfectly clear herself -- in absence of a Signorino co-rank, she would perform these duties gladly for Salsola.

“Shift,” she barked at him, twisting her head toward the brownish male. The ugly scar snaking up his side ripped and twisted along with his body and momentarily, a Lupus-formed Darijus stood before her, looking up at her with that blank indifference. “You will help me swim,” the hybrid said, placing one hand over her belly. The man nodded, and Eris stepped forward into the ocean, the wolf-slave at her side. The waves lapped at her ankles, cold relief against the summer's heat. The tide was low, and the shallow water continued for some distance, gradually sweeping over the hybrid's knees and waist. Soon, Dari paddled beside her, and soon enough after that, Eris wrapped her arm about the wolf's shoulders, clinging to him as she kicked her own legs. Dari's churned the water madly, and his head just barely poked above the water.

It was only a short swim, however, before the hybrid's feet again touched the sandy bottom, and she could again walk. Darijus was released shortly thereafter, and they found themselves on the dry beach, facing the rolling hills and jutting rocks of the isle. The hybrid stretched, her hands on her lower back, belly out, and nodded her approval to Dari, who only stared ahead. The Auxilary looked back to Salsola's shore, and lifted her head to the air, calling for her Associates. There was work to be done here -- Xochime had inspected this place, and found it suitable for a particular purpose, one which Eris had a rather strong interest in.

I dunno, do you think he could see her from the shore? Barely? If not, I'll change it. Also, lolol @ Denver.

The places here all had funny names that Denver hadn't yet bothered to learn, but he had learned their terrain quite well, so far. For the night, he had bunked in the driest cave he could find, beside the ocean. The soothing sounds of the water churning and crashing against the stone walls put him fast to sleep, and he had felt little desire to leave. The land was desolate, like much of Salsola, but held a certain charm that he could not place, but was drawn to.

Being the cautious, near-germophobe that he was, he had taken great care to lay down some bedding for himself, to make a comfortable temporary bed. While it wasn't nearly as plush and welcoming as some mattresses he had slept on in past months, it was certainly better than the cold ground. Leaves, moss, and a thick blanket of sand made up the majority of his bedding. He felt dirty, now, though, and arose to Eris' call groggy and dingy.

Immediately, Denver made to brush himself off; the dark spots that were now beginning to stain his clothes just wouldn't do. He would need be sure to have his clothing cleaned before the day was out. Thankfully, he kept more clothes in his residence near the center of the land.

Slightly annoyed, but more than willing, Denver followed the Associate's voice and scent, which led him straight east along the shoreline, from where he stood near the water, staring out. He placed his white-furred hands on clothed hips, tossing his hair against the wind as it attempted to muss it. The Associate could barely see the pretty, pregnant Auxiliary across the waters, but managed to make her out where she stood on the shore of a small island. It seemed she was accompanied by someone; most likely just a slave. Denver himself hadn't been to that lonely place just yet, nor had he really desired to. And how was he supposed to cross?

Standing in the cold sand, his feet sunk into the ground. Annoyed, he stepped onto the drier part of the beach, noticing now a weather-worn boat that he was not for any reason going to use to traverse that distance, no matter how small. He was sure that the fading structure had holes and leaks galore, and if he became stranded in that water he knew that he would drown. The proud mutt could never admit his poor swimming skills outright, and hated being forced to reveal his flaws. He hadn't needed to learn that skill-- until coming here, he had simply avoided the subject. No one had ever forced it upon him; but this was different.

As he paced the shore, a low, dog-like whine flew from his parted lips, followed by a shallow bark. His feet had already gotten wet, and his body had begun to shake in involuntary fear. His muscles tensed up at the prospect of having to flail and propel his limbs through the cold, dark water; he just couldn't do it.

Weird Magz is weird.
words:309

Magnolia was totally enamored with Eris. Since she permitted Magnolia to stay in Salsola as an Associate, the mohawked-woman was determined to spend some time with the Auxiliary. Her personality, her sharp wit and charm, her everything made Magnolia want to stay here. The dark couple she began to learn more about every day was enticing, fascinating. Larkspur and Eris were figures in Magnolia’s life that she couldn’t quite understand, but desperately wanted to.

Pale ears perked up at the sound of her Auxiliary, and Magnolia’s mind went crazy with disbelief. Was she really being called by the dark woman? As asked for Associates, and Magnolia definitely was one of them. Jade eyes scrambled to find the source of the sound, and her little heart instantly fell as she realized the source. Eris was barely visible on the shore of the island adjacent to Salsola territory. Magnolia had swam in the ocean multiple times when she inhabited the Kingdom, but that was the last thing she was expecting to do for the Auxiliary. Nimble optime feet took her to the edge of the shore where a vaguely familiar face was waiting; he was anxiously pacing the shore. Magnolia recognized him from the Last Supper, but hadn’t seen him since. Was he afraid of the water?

Magnolia started shifting into her four legged form as she made her way to the shore. The transition was swift and agile, and when she was side-by-side to the ivory stranger, she gave him a stern look. Magnolia assumed he was just as lowly as she was after the way he acted at the dinner. “Come on, she needs us. We can do this. Let’s cross together?” Magnolia wanted to be helpful, and this was her way of starting. If this peculiar male needed help crossing the ocean, the girl will be the one to assist.

Though it was early morning, Jeremiah had already been up for quite some time. He had never been one to sleep in; such a luxury was just not done in his experience, as there was generally too much to be done to waste the daylight sleeping. So he'd awakened with the sunrise, as he did every morning, and after his morning devotions, had begun work on his project. No one had seemed to have a problem with him staying in Borgata Tecolotl, and while he'd considered refurbishing one of the three run-down buildings in the area, he had eventually decided to inhabit one of the sea caves. It was his understanding that once he gained the Family's trust, he may be allowed to stay in a residence closer to the heart of the territory, so it made little sense to invest a lot of time in a dwelling which may be temporary. So he had picked a cave above the tideline, and set to work cleaning it of debris and making it inhabitable.

Thus far he had done little but clear his cave of said debris, as that in and of itself had been a good three days' work. But he'd finished that the previous evening, and now was using pilfered wood from the abandoned structures nearby to make himself a sort of box-bed. The idea was not to elevate himself from the ground or anything so fancy; he simply wanted to keep the sand out of his bedclothes. He'd not been lucky enough to come across actual tools so far, and thus was using a notch-and-peg method to fit the wood together.

He had just begun his first notch when one of the few voices with which Jeremiah was familiar rang out across the shore. His ears perked, such as they could, and he carefully laid his work down. The dog traversed the coast at an easy canter, coming to a stop next to two figures already at the destination. Both he recognized from the Last Supper, and he nodded his head in greeting before following the male's gaze across the water; on the island out there stood the very pregnant form of Eris, accompanied by another. She wanted them on the island, obviously; why were the other two hesitant?

It was then that he noticed the agitated state of the pale dog, and deduced that the female had most likely been trying to encourage him to enter the water. He smiled warmly and placed a hand on the male's shoulder before taking a couple of steps into the water. Naught but water, the merle dog said gently. It will bite thee not, and we will allow thee not to sink.

(300) Probably -- I don't think it's very far from the island to shore. Others still free to jump in, and I don't think I want to enforce a really strict posting order anyway? Just post when you can. :3 NO RUSH. Also feel free to powerplay Dari in next posts. He also, uh, doesn't speak after the Last Supper thread... >>;;

The hybrid's attention returned to Darijus, and she sized him up with narrowed eyes. Return and make sure they cross safely, she said. His training hadn't been so extensive as to dominate his thoughts entirely, but she'd broken him in well enough for now. Bastion had started him off well enough, anyhow. Apparently he'd had a friend, and that friend was little more than rotting pieces. The lumbering brownish wolf only nodded his head morosely and waded back into the water, paddling across quickly.

For her part, the coal-hued hybrid remained on the beach, resting on the sand for a moment. The high tide line was littered with drying seaweed and shells much farther up the beach, but she knew well enough the island would not be totally submerged come high tide. Crossing would be an entirely different story, but Eris did not plan to spend so much time here that the tide turned on them. She stood again quickly when a figure materialized on the distant coast. It was two-legged, and Darijus's head still bobbed in the channel between the island and their mainland.

In good time, two more figures appeared on the distant beach as Darijus crested the breaker waves, shaking himself off before trotting to the cluster of figures. The sable woman did not begrudge their hesitation. They were not so familiar with Salsola's coast and these waters as she, and in her current state, The Auxiliary had spent a good deal of time inspecting the channel and pondering whether she should make that crossing herself. It was not as if the isle's resources would disappear if the dawdled, after all, but she was eager to investigate them, and she stepped toward the leaning slopes, inspecting their incline.

Citlali Kimaris-Etalpalli

Citlali had been fond of the Auxiliary since she showed such kindness to him under the mountains. Of course, his first confrontation with the sable woman felt like many days ago, and perhaps it was. He still enjoyed watching her command when he could.

That morning, he had scented her. As usual, the light golden boy was up before sunrise, simply unsettled with the idea of resting such a busy mind that was his. Despite his achingly agitating silence that he presented with his presence, the Kimaris was quite intelligent alike his family. He had heard movement outside his high tower window and could scent the Eternity by the morning. With a well-versed thrust, the boy covered his work table with a woven cloth and descended the stairs at a quicker than leisurely pace.

Her scent thick with child-bearing, Eris was easy to follow. The boy no longer feared the outside world as much as he had when he arrived. The supper brought forth a new sense of courage. However, Citlali couldn’t help but flinch when stirring irrupted to close. But he continued all the same.

A feeling of dread crawled on his tan furred skin as the coyote boy approached. What if the Auxiliary punished him for following her? What if she was attending her own confidential business he shouldn’t be aware of? The thoughts continued to easily torture the Kimaris as he pushed away the brush deeply scented with the woman and her slave. Citlali breathed in deeply at the fragrance of the salt of the sea. Soon, his ginger white paws sunk into sand-like dirt that gave way to the rich coast. Two forms were emerging from the small stretch of water on the opposite bank. The boy hung back in the brush until Eris’s call. He instantly felt relieved as a steady pool of members began to gather on the bay. The man his leader called Darijus, swam back with ease and readied the others. Citlali swiftly became visible but, in his nature, let the others he only vaguely recognized, travel before him.

Pale eyes stared hard into the dark water, anticipating it's coldness and depth with a frown. A deep breath rattled through his body as he prepared himself; he knew that he must cross. Just then, though, he was startled by that strange-looking young girl with the mohawk, standing beside him on the shore, on four legs. He knew her from their dinner, too, and as recognition flashed on his face, staring down at her, she spoke, encouraging him.

The last time he had seen her, she had been on two legs, so it took him a moment of awkward staring before he shook his head and stared again at the water, forcing himself to focus on the task. Just cross. That's all. And then... cross again. He swallowed hard, rubbing his face. Not long after Maggie, someone else came, too; a dog whom he vaguely remember as perhaps being present at the dinner, as well. Instantly, Denver brightened a bit; there weren't many dogs around these parts. When the man spoke, his voice was comforting, though he spoke in a strange tongue. The shepherd dog reassured him as the girl had that they would assist, and that the water was nothing to fear. But still, he hesitated, grumbling through a frown.

A strange coyote appeared behind the group, and Denver briefly took notice of him. He was quiet, and did not move to greet them. Head turned back to the sea, and noticed something odd: who was that swimming towards them? Eyes narrowed, and a small wave brought the figure into view. That slave, the one that didn't talk. The one whose tongue had been cut out. Would the wolf even obey Denver? Well, he would certainly try. Being able to cross on the back of the slave would mean that he would only have to worry about getting wet, and not actually swimming. Excited, he moved forward.

"C'mere and help me cross," he demanded nonchalantly, motioning towards the scarred brown wolf in haste and climbing onto his back in the most comfortable way possible. "I don't like gettin' wet," he added gruffly, wrapping his scarf tightly around his neck. There was a command to be inferred here; if the wolf could not hold even his light frame partially out of the water for the short trip, what even was the point of asking for his help?

I suck so hard I’m sorry everyone!

Table by Haley.

Maggie stood at the edge of the water beside the other Associates in a bit of daydream, watching the interaction before her. The slave came for them, she noted with a bit of surprise, and the dog beside her demanded he help him cross. She chuckled then; she couldn’t help but notice his nerves. He clearly didn’t like the water, but there was nothing he could do. Eris needed them and they were required to obey. They had no say in the matter.

Feeling braver than everyone else, Magnolia walked straight into the chilly water. She shivered, looking back at everyone and motioning towards the island for everyone to follow. The water was frigid, but she forced herself to keep walking further into the water. Magnolia had reached the point of no return, and so she started swimming. The water was fairly calm, which the girl was grateful for, and so she doggy-paddled her way across the water. It was easier than the girl expected, but still tiring nonetheless.

The Associate didn’t turn around to look if anyone was following her, she knew they would eventually. Even the timid man would too. It was tiring, and Magnolia almost didn’t make it, but after what felt like an eternity the island finally started coming closer into view. She floated in the water for a moment, watching Eris wait patiently on the shore for her Associates. Sighing, she continued on to meet her Auxiliary on the sand. “Hey,” she said softly, out of breath. The four-legged girl walked a distance away from her leader before shaking out the water from her fur in a frenzy of droplets that went everywhere.

(399) hi i has a bad post for you :[ also assumed e'erybody came over to the island, but was vague and non-specific for the most part. xD PM me if you gaiz need me to change anything. O;

Though the sable woman occupied herself with a precursory investigation of the isle, impatience brewed in her. This was a part of Salsola's claim, and it was yet unknown to her -- she wanted to pore over every inch of it, learning it with a dedication she had never shown to any place before. Inferni and Anathema were but temporary homes to her, though the latter might have been hers forever. Eterne had been explored, but she hadn't dedicated herself to the place. Survival was easy there, and she had been kept and provided for, anyway. Why inspect the slums and hovels away from the cliffs and caves? She had never had a reason to explore there, and so it was as unknown to her as the lands across the sea itself, halfway around the world. Salsola, however, was entirely different. This was her place, and she would know it as intimately as her own body.

The coyote turned back to the shore after long minutes, seeking the distant figures. They moved in the ocean, little more than bobbing heads and the occasional arm, save one, who was absurdly high above the waves -- the hybrid squinted, and realized this one rode on Darijus's very back. She laughed aloud, shaking her head. It was a few moments more she spent watching the figures in the water before turning back to the island, pacing slowly down the beach and back up again before turning back to the figures, which were now climbing onto the beach, most of them sodden save for Denver, who had been the one to ride Darijus.

Maggie was first toward her, and The Auxiliary responded to the other woman's greeting with a half-formed smile, chartreuse eyes drawn toward the others. They were all wet, as she had been. The minutes on the sand were drying her fur quickly, but already the sable woman could see this would not do if they were to carry things to and from the island, unless those things happened to be waterproof, which was highly unlikely. How is everyone? Wet? There was a sharpened edge of amusement in her tone, perhaps something of an attempt to lessen her restlessness and irritation with caustic humor. This island belongs to Salsola, she began, hardly waiting for a response to her question. I'd like to know every corner of it.

Citlali Kimaris-Etalpalli

The water was cold, despite the season and blazing sun that glittered off the gentle current. It dragged around the coyote-boy’s stomach, tugging wistfully at the ginger-white fur that hung shortly clipped there. He took his steps carefully, the soft muddy bottom feeling foreign against his paws. Citlali couldn’t risk falling in before the others. Suddenly, the icy liquid crept closer to his neck and clung to the bottom of his obsidian feather. The boy kept his dull gaze down on the blue space but occasionally glanced up to check the distance. He had fallen behind purposely, well aware that he had the right to travel before the others. However, the safety of his pack came first, along with the dry throb of nervousness that pulsed adrenaline through his veins.

Before the water reached his collar, Citlali began kicking, moving through the river easily. He finally looked up, seeing his Auxiliary surveying the area and pacing impatiently. The Kimaris swam harder, his feet touching the murky bank before he even began panting. As soon as he was back on land, Citlali joined the others, leaving his sand-toned pelt dripping in respect for the other explorers. Pink tongue flicked out momentarily to grab a drop a droplet of moisture on his muzzle. As if in response, Eris asked about their current state, a flicker of humor etched in her voice when she claimed the obvious. Her tone went to a more serious one when she spoke their purpose. The boy dared a slight smile, making eye contact with sun-yellow irises for a moment. He hoped she wouldn’t mind his presence.

Soon after his first few steps into the chilly water, Jeremiah noticed a movement up toward the treeline of the beach -- a sandy form, hanging back, hesitant. The dog offered an encouraging smile, on the off chance that the coyote could actually see him from where he stood.

He turned his head at splashing behind him -- it was the slave Darijus, the one whose tongue had been removed at the Last Supper. The merle male's mouth went dry at the memory; it had been a horrifying event, and one at which his presence had caused him to pray fervently for forgiveness. He had gotten no reply.

He couldn't help but smile a little at the other dog's almost prim manner in mounting the wolf. The effort to save face was obvious, but Jeremiah thought that he couldn't be faulted for that. Heaven knew Jeremiah had enough faults of his own without judging others for theirs. The mohawked girl then started out across the channel, and Jeremiah followed, swimming with swift, sure strokes through the cold water.

He reached the opposite shore second-to-last, soon followed by the young coyote who had lingered behind. He ducked his head deferentially at the obviously pregnant Eris. Eris, he said by way of greeting, and began to wring out the loose folds of his sopping garments. He smiled at her quip, and perked his ears as she continued to speak. How would'st thee like us to proceed? he asked willingly. Despite all of his hesitations about the Salsolan way of life, Eris had opened her home to him, and for that he felt he owed her, at least, his unfailing loyalty.
