Death. Over the years, Bambi had thought she had grown used to that scent. There were different levels of it- Old death, which radiated off a body that had been sitting for a while, and fresh death, which came from a recently made kill. All her life she had been taught that killing things for food was natural. Expected, even. But the smell that was filling her nostrils now did not fit into either of the categories for deceased things that she had created. It was different. Not unique, or even appealing. It was a smell that made her wrinkle her nose, and when she realized what it was coming from, caused her to release a long, pain filled whine.

The dog fell to her knees, caring not about the pain that swarmed through her body when she hit the stone ground. There, in the main room of her home, laid the body of her feline mother. Nana had been sick for a while, and it wasn't that Bambi did not expect her to die.. She just didn't wish for it to happen so soon. This cat was the one creature that she had befriended since leaving her slave camp. The single most important thing to her. Her need to protect and cherish this companion had rose above even her self preservation desire. She would easily give the own fur off her back to keep this feline warm.. And now she was dead. Different emotions filled her, causing her head to pound. Anger, for her feline mother had deserted her. Sadness, for the realization that she would never see her again. Loneliness, in knowing that she would have to continue on without her. It brought her back to all the slaves that she witnessed being tortured until their hearts gave out. She thought of the last deep breath they would take before falling limp and cold. The dog put her paws to her face, squeezing her eyes shut and trying to compose herself. Over the years she had learned how to hold back emotions quite well, but this time, her attempt failed. She reached out to touch the body, her paws and body trembling horribly. "N-N-Nana.." As expected, she did not feel the rise and fall of her chest. She didn't feel warmth coming off of her, or have her roll over as she normally did in response to being touched. It was the last thread that kept her from falling apart. The belief that maybe, just maybe, she was sleeping. But as her shaking paws felt over the cat's body, that thread tore.

Bambi whisked the cat up off the ground, cradling her in her arms as she did when the cat's legs got to tired for her to walk any further. "Wake up!" She tried to sound more angry and demanding than hurt, but failed miserly. Her breaths came out hagged and uneven as she got to her feet. Before she knew it she was pushing past the wooden door, bursting outside and revealing herself to the afternoon sky. Normally she would take time to admire the beautiful colours that painted the normally bland coloured sky- But not now. She was running, panting. When her legs got tired she pushed harder, forcing her body to continue past its' breaking limit.

She had gotten very far before her body finally gave up. It took every ounce of power in her in order not to shift. Again, she collapsed. She was crying now- No, not crying. Weeping. And so painfully that one from a distance away could easily believe someone was causing physical harm to her. Part of her wished her chest would just burst, cracking her ribs and allowing her heart to on to the ground. She found herself clawing at her thighs, looking for just some way to project some of this pain else where. It didn't take long before her legs were coated in blood, and even then it was still steadily flowing out. "Your fault. Should have helped her. Murderer." The last word said by her mental voice repeated over and over, "Murderer, murderer, murderer, KILLER KILLER.." She let out a snarl of agony, squeezing her eyes closed again. But the voices didn't stop. The more she tried to silence them, the louder they got. And each time the words were repeated, the became truer in her mind. She put her paws over her floppy ears, speaking aloud to try and silence her head. "Please.. Please.. Help, please. Help."

This is long and stuff, but... yeah. Your post was awesome. :c Poor Bambi!

Levent was not a stranger to pain and grief, but to hear him tell of it, he had not shed a single tear his entire life. He was an amazing actor, flamboyantly smiling and bowing and chattering even when something struck him. But he was known to have broken down—when he lost his father, the woman he’d thought to marry, when he realized the consequences of his one-way journey across the ocean—and only one creature besides him knew of those times.

Wilson purred contentedly, snuggled in the wolf’s arms, the whole of his body seeming to buzz softly against the man’s chest. Lev only smiled down at his sleeping companion with tired blue eyes half-lidded. They had traveled extensively throughout the day and only now collapsed against a tree in the dark forest, resting before they began their wandering trek once more. There was no telling how many packs they’d yet to explore, how many territories and how many creatures they would come across. Only the thought that he wouldn’t be alone throughout all of this kept the merchant from being overwhelmed.

He dozed off after a time, but woke suddenly—the cat snuggled under his chin with sleepy confusion, his claws unsheathed with worry and barely pricking the canine’s skin. Levent frowned, straightening as Wilson adjusted, wondering what had woken him and startled the feline. He turned his nose to the air, the smell of a dog and a cat and the tired odor of death coming to him. The snarl that sounded at the edge of his hearing only served to jolt him completely awake, and after throwing the satchel high up in the tree they rested under, hoping no animals or luperci would get to it, he wordlessly set off in that direction.

It did not take the odd companions long to find the girl, one beautifully pelted with whites and blacks and blues and hints of rust. She was covering her ears, speaking desperately to herself—and at her bloody legs rested a black cat, dead, old, so so small and so tired from her souls’ journey.

The breath caught in Levent’s throat, and in that moment, the female’s agony and grief became his own. Understanding, Wilson pressed silently against his leg then came forward to the dog hybrid, mewing a soft greeting and sliding his white body along her gently, his yellow eyes avoiding the sight of the deceased queen. Shortly after came the wolf, his eyes glittering, his arms open out to the sides and his expression that of profound sadness.

“Oh, süt mavisi,” Levent murmured, coming to kneel beside her, to put his arms around her if he could. His voice was poignant, his chest already aching with the threat of sobs. If he could empathize with anything, it was this moment, this moment that struck him with such fear and sadness that he rarely knew. But he did not think about that, his mind focused on the young woman and her bleeding grief. “Süt mavisi, it is not your fault. It is not ever your fault.”

His hands reached for the dark body of the she-cat, not daring to touch her, not certain that the girl would tolerate his presence for long. A white head brushed under his palm, and Wilson was rubbing against both luperci with all the ferocious protection a little cat could manage, and Levent spoke, his voice like a river broken by rocks.

points → 7 :: Thank you! I love reading your posts. <3 I DISALLOW YOU TO READ THIS POST YET, I ENTERED IT TO EARLY AND DIDN'T GET TO SPELL CHECK. D;

Bambi found herself to be more caught up in her own pain and misery to worry about exactly who was comforting her. She could smell two animals- A wolf, and a cat. While using her nose to help scope out who the approaching creatures were, she again caught a whiff of Nana's dead scent. The dog completely collapsed in to the male's open arms, laying her head down on his lap. She knew she couldn't look very attractive while crying, which is one of the reasons she made a point to never do it in front of people.. That, and she couldn't stand having known that she had allowed someone to view her at her weakest point. But right now, that didn't matter. She couldn't stop crying, and she could not bring herself to push away this kind soul. She could feel him, breathing heavily, which demonstrated that he was highly upset as well. She was not sure if he had broken down due to his own issues and found comfort in crying along side someone, or if her own sadness actually had an emotional affect on him.

"Is she dead? Did.. Is she really die?" She had seen the body, yes. She had felt it, limp and cold in her arms. But she still could not believe it. Life and death were complete opposites. Life was enjoyed.. Most of the time. And death was feared, just like those who were able to bring it upon them. The convenient part in being a wolf was that they didn't have much to fear. They were damn near the top of the food chain now that humans were gone. And even with creatures like bear and cougars that could pose a threat lurking around, they tended to mind their own unless threatened.

The words of the wolf were in a language she didn't know. Yet they were beautiful by all means. They flowed together perfectly, and especially when he began to sing. Even with the state of extreme fear and anguish she was in, they soothed her.. To a certain extent. She could feel a small, furry critter nestling up against her. Bambi gripped the fur on his side, though not hard enough to hurt him. She pulled herself closer and nestled buried her face in his tummy, weeping against it. Murderer.. I killed her, didn't I? I didn't save her.. Let her die."

<3 Levent is beyond freaking out omg issues

The girl collapsed in his arms for comfort, quaking with sobs. His hands went to work stroking her fur and rubbing her back and providing every amount of tactile comfort that he could while he pressed his nose between her ears. His blue eyes gazed off into space in the direction of the dead cat lying like an old coal, an ember that had finally burnt out. Wilson pressed against the canines was white fire in comparison, but oh—Levent still found himself whimpering. Rarely was he so empathic, as he was normally taking advantage of others’ emotions to swindle them out of a fair trade or take something simpler from them such as information or touch. But this was the worst scenario for him to happen upon, and one that struck such a chord in him. He wasn’t even sure whether he was crying for her and her feline companion or himself.

The man did not answer her question. It was obvious, and it was something she would have to confirm for herself once more, whether through gaze or smell or thought. There was not a breath left in the withered old queen’s body. He sighed and rubbed at his nose with a fist before looking across at the tomcat, allowing the prayer to come, hoping it would provide some comfort as well. He would do the other death rites he’d found in the tattered pages of his book, but he wasn’t sure if the girl would like that or if they even had the necessary means for cleaning. But at least the prayer was said, what little of the prayer he’d salvaged in the smeared pages. At least she could escape from her winter body and come alive again, vernal, in cennet.

Wilson was clutched, but despite his discomfort with strangers, the feline only purred and lay still. His ears flicked at her words, and he was the one to speak to her this time as Levent gazed off into space. “You did nothing wrong, duck,” he meowed gently as if he were an old woman himself. “She was old and sick and it was her time.” His rough tongue rasped her on the muzzle.

“It is not ever your fault,” Levent said again, stroking her hair, but he gave his head a shake and looked out into space again, murmuring too low for them to hear. Ben hayal edilemedi, ben hayal edilemedi.

Bambi looked at the cat, then the male. She rubbed her eyes with her paws, trying to clear the fogginess from her vision. Her head was pounding, almost as hard as cardiac organ in her chest. The cat had a beautiful, snow coloured coat. His gold eyes burned brightly as the setting sun reflected off of them. When she looked back up at the man through clear eyes, she saw that he was equally as beautiful.

The luperci infected aussie felt over her torn up legs, giving a short yelp of pain. She wasn't sure why she did it. She had never done it before.. But at the moment, it had felt like the only thing to do. Her normally white leg fur was tainted with splatters a blood. Her first thought was what a thorn in the paw it was going to be to get out. There were four scratches on each thigh, deep and long. The fur around the injuries was matted with red body fluid. However, when she sat up some, her mind was drawn to the two critters near her. She couldn't even imagine what they thought about the cuts..

"She.. She would not let me take her to a medicine man." Wept the canine hopelessly. After a few more whimpers and yelps of sadness, she pulled herself back together. She didn't know where the white feline had gotten the name 'duck', but some what liked the sound of it. The roughness of the cat's tongue against her fur gave her some comfort- Drawing her back to all the time where Nana had done this.

Bambi reached out and smoothed back the cat's ears, sighing lightly. It was soft, just as her feline mother's. She couldn't allow herself to cry anymore.. At least not right now. Later on she would most likely have an even worse break down, but for now, she had to stop herself. The wolf that had her seemed broken up himself, and she owed him. She changed her position to ensure she wouldn't be making him to uncomfortable, laying her head on his lap again and looking up at him. She extended her other paw out towards his face, bringing it in slowly to touch his soft cheek. "What troubles you?" She asked, gazing up at him with caring eyes. "You soothed me.. I feel wrong and ashamed if I do not return the favor." She looked down at her scratched thighs, then back up. The female leaned up, licking his maw softly to reassure him that it was okay to talk. She had never really 'kissed' someone before.. For she didn't really have the chance back in camp. The males and females were, for the most part, separated. Besides, the slave masters wouldn't like having their sacrifices' innocence being stolen.

Her yelp drew the male wolf’s dark ears forward, and he looked at the claw marks sadly. He might have bent to clean them, but with her head in his lap it would take a lot of flexibility he didn’t have to reach her thighs. His mind was too focused on the collective grief of the canines to pursue this train of thought, however, and he only sighed as she continued to weep. He heard Wilson make another soft remark about the elder “knowing it was her time,” but who knew how much of the explanation reached her. It certainly barely reached the Turkish luperci.

The merle female’s head came down in his lap again, and with Wilson rubbing his cheek against his size, he finally came to. Her hand touched his cheek as their blue eyes met: hers a soft shade of baby blue while his were more washed-out and icy. Her tan-pointed face was tender, and even as he gave his head a gentle shake, she reached up to kiss him.

Wilson meowed once, wordlessly, but it seemed to be a noise let out on accident as he quickly curled his tail around himself and sat hunched. Levent reached out with one hand to ruffle the tom’s ears, his other hand coming to stroke the female’s silvery hair.

“I am troubled only by your grief, süt mavisi,” Levent murmured, shaking his head lightly again. “I understand your pain. I understand what she must have meant to you.”

His gaze dropped to her wounds again, and he sighed. “I have bandages in my satchel. I can carry you there so we can get those wrapped up.” There was no judgment in his tone, which was hollow.

Wilson spoke up quietly. “You want me to go get it, mate?”

The luperci shook his head. “You’d break everything,” he retorted, some of the life coming back into his face at last. The tom flicked his tail and gave a satisfied nod, and Lev shifted lightly, though he would let the young woman move when she felt she could.

"She is.. She was.. All I had." Said the dog, shifting her focus away from the man. She had no more time for denial. The cat- Her mother- was gone. "For good.. Forever." She would give anything to not have to go on without her.. But she had too. "Should have died too," She thought, using her lids to cover her sad eyes. As much as she just wanted to give up and let herself go get eaten by a bear, she couldn't. For one, Nana would absolutely kill her. Again. And secondly, she couldn't leave her pack. Even though she was scared as hell, and still weeping on the inside like crazy.. She would not abandon them again. Maybe she wasn't all that important to it. But she hoped that the more time she spent within it, the more of a necessity she may become.

"Understand it?" She asked, propping herself up now on her elbows. "How?" Her voice was not demanding, and the question was meant to deter him. But how could he know? This man, who had never known Nana, and would probably have other friends in case his own cat died. She was all alone. She had no friends in the pack. Mostly because she couldn't build up the courage to make any. Her fear held her back from everything- And kept her from getting close to anyone. The only person she had really hit it off with was Oak.. And he was most likely gone by now back to his own pack lands. She wanted to make her way there just to be able to collapse in to the arms of some one with a familiar face, but couldn't bring herself to bother him.

What felt like painful hours to her was only a matter of seconds as she got to her feet. Her lips were curled up in to a snarling position, but it was more so as a person would grit their teeth at pain rather than a sign of aggressive. "He wouldn't break it, look what a gentle kitty he is." Bambi said, smiling weakly. She leaned over some, sucking in her breath as the pain washed over her. She scratched underneath the cat's chin, almost as a thanks to his kindness.. Similar to the soft kiss she had given to the male wolf. She shook her head at his offer, determined to walk on her own. "I can walk. I'll have to sooner or later, right?" She tried several different ways to stretch her legs- Hoping to find one that was less painful then the last. But she went without luck. "So," She said, looking at Levent. "What exactly do I owe you, if you won't let me take some of your burden off your shoulders?" <style>

Sorry for wait! Also, I powerplayed some so they could walk.

The blue merle female murmured sadly then questioned his understanding, at which point he gave her a sorrowful look. He didn’t want to speak his feelings aloud for fear that his greatest terrors would come true, but he wanted to let the girl know she was not alone in the connection she’d shared with the feline mother lying crumpled and coal-black in the grass. After gathering his thoughts with a breath, he spoke quietly.

“I’ve had a baba and anne,” Levent said, “but not at the same time; my father was largely absent, and my mother only cared for me at the dusk of my childhood. And I’ve met more strangers than you ever have, traveling all across Europe and Asia for trade. But there’s only one creature on this earth I can say I truly care about without lying.”

The tomcat was silent. Watching. Listening.

The Turkish man shrugged. “I understand,” he concluded plainly. He was glad he’d spoken, though. After what had happened at the camp with the blonde assassin, his best friend needed to know what he meant, needed to know that Lev understood their bond was a unique one. The cat was the only one able to call him out of his darkness, even if he was less and less successful as the seasons went on—but even if he did not mind, he listened to the council Wilson gave him. His words weighed heavy no matter what he thought.

Wincing, her lips wrinkled, the girl managed to stand. He watched her carefully then smiled in approval as she scratched under the cat’s chin, which drew an even louder purr out of the white feline. He nodded as she said she could walk, but he wrapped an arm around her nonetheless, ready to bear some of her weight so she could step easier.

They began to walk toward the tree, the male doing whatever he could to aid her movement. He was quiet for a moment after her question, but finally he shook his head. “You owe me nothing in the moment,” he said. “Perhaps a favor in the future, but who knows. So long as you don’t forget what I’ve told you today, it will be enough.” He didn’t want to hear that the dog had died of her deep grief.

Reaching the tree, Levent clawed his way up part of the trunk only so that he could slip the handle off the branch. The bag dropped into his hands, and he opened it quickly to find the gauze. He gestured for the girl to settle down on the ground, looking critically at the gashes, and sat down in front of her with a frown.

“Ah—what is your name?” the brown wolf asked after a second, managing a chuckle. “I am Levent, and this is Wilson.”
