a house is a home

It had not occurred to Levent until after he’d crossed over the border that he had his work cut out for him. While he could feign knowledge about Nova Scotia and the groups that made it home, the truth was that he’d never been in a real pack before. All they’d had in Eurasia were scruffy gangs and mafias, and the only packs were never called that; he’d never been part of them anyway. So, after joining Cercatori d’Arte, the first order of business was figure out what the hell to do.

At times like this, he defaulted to sitting aside and brooding with Wilson, but he didn’t want the others’ first impression of him to be that. Wearing a smile at all times just in case he was spotted, he made his way through the territory, stopping to look at the landmarks in the forest. Wilson somehow caught a squirrel, which cheered him up from the dour being who’d sat at the borders, and they were in relatively good spirits when the trees gave way to a town.

Blue eyes widened, but the former human settlement was honestly the most familiar thing he’d seen all day. He walked quickly down the little roads, looking at the little cottages surrounded and half-claimed by little clumps of foliage. Vines climbed over rock and wood, and the man found himself dreaming of what would be inside one of the places before he realized two things: that the pack surely would have been around long enough to already claim those treasures, and that he could probably claim one himself.

Tail wagging, he snooped around the houses despite the cat’s laughing warning that he looked suspicious. Many were still in good condition, although he peered at the wooden frames doubtfully. The stone ones were better and reminded him of the stone buildings on his old trading routes. He began to peer into some when a scent caught him, and he openly stared at the house that was the culprit.

Wilson started sulking the moment he understood why his friend was grinning, but the Turkish luperci paid him no mind. He looked down across a street that wasn’t too far from Hotaru’s cottage, but definitely far enough away so that it could look like an accident if he chose it. He moseyed on over and jiggled the door handle, only to find the immense task of breaking in left to him.

Levent wasted no time attacking the door, while his cat looked on deadpan and the birds sang in the trees around the town.

Ever since shifting a few days ago Keldava had been in a haze of happiness, happy to have finally caught up with her siblings. Almost immediately she had tried to make use of her Optime form but she had run into a problem.

When she had first shifted Keldava had assumed that her inability to walk had been due to dizziness caused by actually shifting the first time but even a few days later she was still unbalanced and clumsy in her own body when shifted into her bipedal form. It seemed that unlike Dalgina, who had taken quickly and naturally to her new body, Keldava would have to literally relearn how to move her own body in order to use her Optime form.

The different muscle structure confused her and her jerking about, trying to move muscles in ways that they could no longer move. The higher viewpoint disorientated her, leaving her to both hit her head on low hanging objects and trip over obstacles close to the ground that she didn’t notice. The newly proportioned arms and legs were ungainly and the different movements and balances required to stand often left her sprawled on the floor. Walking in Optime form seemed to be less walking and more controlled falling and Keldava was having a lot of trouble figuring it out, though at least the pup was getting a lot of experience in how to take a fall without hurting herself with bipedal limbs.

On the upside Keldava was very happy with how her Optime form looked. Her fur was short and soft like this, showcasing the muscles that were building up as she grew much better than her other forms. The mane around her head was neither overly long or in her face like Dalgina's but instead hung back behind her head down to her shoulders, a free flowing river of the two fur colours that made up her body. While Keldava was too young yet to really realise it here Optime form was well proportioned, her frame hinting at the beginnings of what would become an hourglass figure as Keldava matured, something Keldava would appreciate once she was old enough to realise what those parts of her body were for.

All things said Keldava mused, peering into the pond she was using as a mirror with a satisfied air about her and reaching one hand up to preen her newly gained hair - at the moment having hair like this was a close second to actually having hands in ways that her Optime form was awesome - Keldava was rather happy with her Optime form. Now if only she could actually use the damn thing without falling flat on her face every few minutes.

Keldava was drawn from he rmusing by a unfamiliar scent, wafting over the wind and into her nose. Curiously Keldava followed the scent, following it to the gathering of human buildings where many of the pack lived, to an unfamiliar brown wolf trying to break down a door.

Keldava hung back for a moment peering around the side of the house with her ears twitching, sensitive tips working with her nose to tell her that she was downwind of the stranger and hopefully hidden. If the stranger hadn’t heard her approach that was, at the moment Keldava;s movement was described less as walking and more as blundering like a drunkard.

Eventually Keldava decided there was no harm in talking to somebody so deep in Arte territory and strode forwards to introduce herself. Or at least that's what she intended to do. Keldava had been concentrating on watching the stranger to much that she had once again forgotten she was in Optime and when she made to step forwards it was her upper body that moved forwards. With a quiet cry Keldava fell forwards, yelping loudly as she hit the ground muzzle first.

Desparately aware of the stranger Keldava tried to scramble upwards and save some face, only to make the same mistake half way through rising, leading to her face being introduced to the dirt once more. Sore but wounded mostly in her pride and little else Keldava whined quietly, slowly wondering if she should reconsider how much she liked her Optime form.

Superdupershort, but I'm trying to get back into the swing of things. >>;

A few well-aimed kicks and a bit more doorknob-jiggling managed to shove the front door inward, but Levent did not have very long to bask in his triumph. He grinned and turned to make a remark to his companion when he caught sight of a dark form moving behind them, on the other side of the street. When said form fell unexpectedly, Wilson shot up onto the brown luperci’s shoulder bristling, claws digging into his shoulder.

“Wils, it’s just—” Lev began to reassure him, but then the fallen girl tried to get back up again and failed. He was almost reminded of Hotaru bumping into her tree, although he doubted that there’d be two blind wolves in one pack—and he didn’t see anything the teen could have tripped on other than her own feet. Definitely more like Niernan, he thought, and tried not to grin at her expense.

Merhaba,” the Turkish wolf greeted, moving quickly to her side. He crouched, and the cat leaped off his back, scrambling to a safe distance. “Do you need help?” he asked, reaching out with a paw and wondering if she’d hurt herself falling.

Keldava’s face burned red beneath her fur with embarrassment when her hopes of the stranger having not noticed her falling somehow were broken by them coming over, offering help in the form of an outstretched hand. When wishing that she would just sink into the ground didn’t work Keldava tried to wave him off”Nah, I’m fine than-“ Keldava’s response was cut off by her falling a third time, this time getting a nice mouthful of mud for her troubles.

After a few moments of spluttering and spitting Keldava tried to rise again, this time grudgingly taking the offered hand and pulling herself up. Once she was standing she tottered sideways a bit, the disorientation caused by falling repeatedly mixing together with her natural troubles. Grabbing onto a nearby building to steady herself Keldava turned back to the man, wiping mud away from her mouth with her free hand. ”Thanks.” she said quietly, her ears fluttering about in shame, ”’m still getting used to having two legs, hard to balance.” her eyes started darting around, trying to look at anything other than the adult she had just thoroughly embarrassed herself in-front of before forcing herself to meet his eyes once more. ”Umm, I’m Keldava. Jace’s daughter. Who’re you?” Despite her blunt words Keldava wasn’t being rude, her tone showed that, it was just the way that the adolescent spoke on occasion.
