Just Silvano's state of mind considering Artemis and Denali.

It was cold, that much the young adult knew. He managed to scramble to the highrocks, even though it was the middle of winter and the winds were brutal. Silvano faced them head on, mostly ignoring them for the thoughts in his head. It was just a mild distraction, even though the wind whipped his scarf about like a leaf in a gale. He felt the tug of it around his neck but even that was not enough to make him stop to adjust it tight against him. Eyes half shut as he pushed through the sea wind, the Sadira found himself behind a waist high cropping of rocks. It seemed like a good place to sit himself down and just let the wind batter him. He carefully climbed atop the rocks, pressing his back against a much taller set of rocks, letting it brace him. The roar of the sea was so much easier to hear now, and he could see the very angry water crash into the cliff face below.

Expression blank as the slate below, the mottled male pulled his knees up to his chest and wrapped his arms around his knees. His maw was buried in the scarf his mother so lovingly knitted for him. He whined lightly, but the force of the wind made it inaudible to anyone. He only heard it because he knew he had done it. Eyes shut against the sight of an angry sea, the boy thought about what had happened to drive him so far from home, to a place as horribly dangerous as this, especially in the winter. But he knew this escape was only temporary; he would have to return home eventually. His mother could not handle it all alone and he knew he had to be home for the rest of his family. It was time to grow up and it was awful how it had to happen. Silvano had never been a very eager and energetic pup, but always more serious and thoughtful. Yet this was destined to make him even more serious than ever before.

At home, his mother was probably fretting around Artemis. Artemis.. She had fallen from the roof when she was playing with Denali. His sister was always such a risk taker, an adventurer at heart. Denali, their adopted brother, had run to find help and when the family discovered the adventurous Marino girl lying in the snow, not moving, everyone exploded into a frantic panic. Silvano remembered how he came up to his sister's still, but breathing, body, and how quiet she seemed. It was almost as though she were dead. But Cambria said she was alright, just a little bit hurt physically, as far as she could tell. But still she did not wake days later. She slept on and on, and the boy began to truly worry for his sister, his littermate.

He hugged his knees even tighter, shutting his eyes even more as his ears flattened and the wind tried to knock him off his perch. The chill was setting into his bones and he knew he would have to get home soon if he wanted to stay healthy. Another sick child would probably make his mother gray early and Cambria would already have her hands full with the others this winter. He did not want to make things harder for his older sister and his mother. Silvano was a son of the Marino family. He had to be a man for the women in his family. He had to.

Savina was probably at home, sitting by Artemis' side, keeping her warm and comfortable, even though she was still sleeping so still. She would maybe be holding her hand, patting it, moving the girl's hair from her face if she happened to move in her quiet sleep. Usually, the boy would be sitting with her and watching his sister slumber, and he would try to comfort the woman somehow, distract her if he could. Silvano considered getting a book from the library and reading it to both her and Artemis. It would let her mind take a small break from worrying about her daughter and adopted son. But he knew, he knew that it would not distract her for long, not in the presence of the comatose girl.

Silvano could see how his mother was stressed. She had to run the pack and then take care of her daughter. And now, now Denali was gone. A note was all the kid had left for them before he had run away in a guilty storm. He thought that it was all his fault that Artemis was now in her current state and he fled with his tail between his legs. He was afraid what everyone would think about him, that they all would have blamed him for Artemis climbing to the roof and then falling. Silvano could not blame his adopted brother for what happened to his sister; something like this was coming to her, for all her risk taking, but he would never be angry with her or with Denali. She was just not careful sometimes and that was all there was to it. But it was so awful now, with their mother worrying about everyone. The Sadira youth just felt so awful for his mother, having to deal with it. He was not taking it as badly because he knew that Artemis would be stubborn enough to wake up one day. When that was he had no idea.

Sighing, he let go of his knees and stretched them out before him, letting the wind ruffle his fur. Green eyes gazed at the crashing surf beneath him. With some effort, he moved his cold bones off the outcropping and out of the wind for a moment. Silvano just kind of stared in the direction of home, look rather wary. Back at the manor he would probably find a way to distract his mother, probably get something for them to eat, and Cambria too if she was there. The young adult adjusted his scarf, knowing what had to happen for things to change, for things to get back to normal. He knew he would have to grow up a little bit to make sure he could be there for his family, and that was what he had to do. Silvano had to be there for his family and that was that. It may have been a bit too soon for him to mature as fast as he had to, especially considering all the men in his family. But he figured Savina needed some of her younger children to grow up a little, so that things could be a little easier and less worrisome. Shivering lightly, and belly hungry, the Sadira youth headed toward home, eyes hard and back straight as he marched to his duty.
