SO CLEVER. I know. I know. 1 person only.

Silvano took the day off from his family, and the scant few friends that he had, to travel to the city of Halifax, hoping to find usable materials for the job he wanted to hold. He was looking to become a record keeper of sorts for the pack. Since he was very into reading and writing, he knew that he was probably the most suitable for the task in among his family and the rest of the Dreamers. Silvano spent enough time in the library to know who went in their often and who did not. He was getting tired of not knowing if a book was out of the library for personal use to someone else, so he figured it was high time to get some way of recording who took what when. But he had not found enough paper to start something like that. Most of it had already degraded by the time he picked it up, depending on the conditions he had found it in. There were plenty of pencils to be had, but it was still the paper he needed.

So he found himself in Halifax, looking for book stores or supply stores that would have the notebooks he needed, hopefully sealed in plastic. It was getting frustrating; he wanted to find unused, clean, still white paper. No one around had learned yet how the humans had made paper and Silvano was dying for a nice hundred sheet stack of them nicely bound with either a cloth spine or even a metal spiral. Was it too much to ask for to get one or two or fifteen of them? Really, it did not seem like such a demanding thing. And now that he was here, he thought he might as well go into the book stores and find a new book or two or seven for the library. Hopefully the quality of the paper in those was still good and they were only aging in the dust rather than molding in the dampness.

The Sadira youth pressed his nose against a window pane, squinting into the dark store. It was a local bookshop filled with books. He could even see dust floating in it from the few beams of light managing to get into the interior through the now grimy and rain stained window. The posters were so bleached from decades in the light it looked as though the colors were starting to fade into each other. But he could see the stacks of books, multiple duplicates of them even, inside. Maybe he could find a book for the library and then his own personal collection. That would be divine, filling up the empty space in his bedroom with a huge wall to wall shelf with nothing but books. God, he was a nerd but he loved it anyway.

It was far too tempting. Silvano moved to the glass door, ignoring the "closed" sign on it. He tried to open the door but it was jammed for some reason. He shook it, and the thing only rattled. So the owners had managed to lock it before the catastrophe. Checking the sign once more, he saw that it said "on vacation in New York. Be back in three weeks". So perhaps they had escaped the thing that killed the humans? Shrugging at himself, Silvano pushed again, getting no result. He would have to break the door's windows and open the lock that way. But what to break it with?

Hope you don't mind lil' ole me snagging this?

To say the least it was both a triumph and a challenge. Being able to finally get out the underground system was very much a victory, but going down a mountain on horseback? No so much. Being able to get into Halifax was another victory, knowing where he was, was not. Pretty much an eventful day up until the moment he was merely going down the street. Hooves hitting stone, such a wonderful sound! Being young as he was he hadn't been in many cities, but when he did come into one, oh, how he loved that sound. It was easy to say that was his favorite thing over seeing the structures of Man.

It was a little uneasy, he had to admit, riding on such a hard surface. Quite bumpy, and Bran didn't seem to enjoy it too much, either. So it didn't come to surprise when the stallion just flat out stopped, refusing to carry the mutt any further. Well, there went the thoughts of a nice little ride to and from Anathema. Easily the grey giant climbed out of the saddle and, grabbing the reins, started to guide the draft onward. With a bit of pulling, of course. Such a stubborn animal, that Bran.

Any sort of annoyance the boy may have felt quickly melted as that beloved sound started up again. He had to do something while he was here, find some sort of thing he could take back, but what exactly? He shrugged to himself, it'd surely come to him. If not at least he could say he got out.

He felt a bit lucky today as grace seemed to stay with him. Allowing him to move about without tripping over anything and everything. He had a feeling, though, that deep down if he wasn't careful that Bran would surely try to knock him over. He could by the look in the Belgian's eye that he wanted to do something. That something being wanting to see the wolfdog fall. Well, not today! Oh, no, he was on to the stallion's game.

Thought of being tripped aside, Kase felt rather relaxed. The image of his "brother" was pushed to the farthest corner of his mind, permitting him to feel like his old self. A small smile was starting to form when he caught something, first it was a faint figure then a smell. A foreign smell, but nonetheless canine. He started to clam up, he wasn't expecting someone else to be around here. When he thought about he realized that may have been stupid to think, but never mind that. He didn't know what to do!

Not thinking to just stop and run for hell the pair continued until the figure become clear, they then stopped. Somewhat close by the other. Both canine and equine watched the fellow moved from window to the door in an attempt to open it, access was denied it seemed. Kase didn't dare say a word for many reasons, though, mainly he had not a single thing to say. Bran did, however, and let out a loud neigh which startled the boy and prompted him to turn around. Wagging his and giving the animal a scolding look. Great.

The fellow most definitely heard that. What was he to do now? He didn't plan for this!

This was just such a goddamn tease, thought the brunette, mindlessly running his hands through his curly hair as he stared through the glass door. He contemplated breaking through the glass with his fist or foot, but a hard rap on the pane brought that thought to an end. It was too thick and if he did manage to break it, he'd be hobbling home to Cambria for medical attention. Honestly, he did not want to bleed on the books if he got in; that was not taking good care of them and he wanted them in their good condition. But when he was about to walk down the street to look for broken metal anythings, he heard a loud neigh reverberate behind him. He spun about, gazing at whatever horse made the sound.

Silvano eyed them carefully, wondering who they were. But he did notice that the horse was a huge one and that only made him swallow his dislike of people and call out to the stranger. "Hey, can you come help me?" he called, cupping his hands in front of his lips to make the sound reach further. "I need to break a window." Hopefully the horse would do the job; he was not picky at this point. Those books were so goddamn tempting and he wanted them all, all of them. Even though most were probably the newest things printed when the humans disappeared, he would have taken them. Even the children's books; those would be good for the next kids born in the pack.

In the time between he was noticed Kase manged to grip his hands gently around Bran's snout, silencing him from further sounds. In the back of his mind a silly thought rose, Bran neighed on purpose! The horse was always up to some sort of shenanigan, so what's it to say he wouldn't get the attention of others just to unnerve the wolfdog? The two stared at each other, some sort of silent war waging between their eyes. It wasn't until the draft jerked his head up did the male put his attention back on the wolf.

Help, that was what the fellow needed, help breaking a window, to more exact. ..Wait, what? Break a window? Why in the world would he want to do that? It puzzled him for just a second then it hit him, the fellow wanted to get inside. Of course, otherwise nobody would bother with such a task. But why was his help needed? Well, he couldn't say no, even if it was a stranger who could do God knows what to him. Giving the horse a pull he slowly drew closer.

“Door doesn't w-work?”

Of course it didn't work, or why else would he need your help? His ears flattened in a submissive gesture and he looked to the window, how could he break a window? He could punch it, he supposed, but he didn't need any more injuries and would that even do the job, anyways? Letting go of reins he gave the window a hard smack, testing the thickness, and it was pretty sturdy by the way it didn't crack. He looked at the brunette.

“I-I'll see what I have in my bags,” he said. “Though, did y-you try a rock? Tha-That'll probably do the job.”

He could feel his nerves bunch up, talking always made him feel a wreck and he could feel his heart pounding. Stop it. The thought echoed, but he just couldn't calm down. Meeting pack members was hard enough, so how in the hell should he handle a completely perfect stranger?

The Sadira youth looked at the stranger, eying him strangely. His stutter was strange; he had not heard anyone stutter nearly so much before, not even in their fear. He had stuttered now and then, but that has usually been from the cold making his teeth chatter. It was not cold now. The other male seemed to shrink though, the moment Silvano addressed him. Had he said something wrong to him? He could have sworn he had just asked for help. Maybe the other guy had taken it for an order and thought him dominant? That was ridiculous; the youth wanted the books inside, nothing else.

Silvano watched him tap the window and probably come to the same conclusion that he had at the beginning; the glass was too thick. Though, he suggested a rock, and the brunette nodded slightly. He scanned the area nearby with downcast eyes and then found a large cement chunk broken from the sidewalk. Picking it up, he weighed it in his hand, disliking the weight completely. It was so heavy. But he held it over his shoulder, then swung it at the glass of the door. It gave a resounding thud but all it did was make the glass vibrate and make an ugly noise. Silvano was not strong enough to be effect. "I guess not." He lightly tossed the heavy chunk away, ignoring the clang it made. The youth looked at the horse near them, then the stranger. "What about the horse?" he asked, knowing a kick from one could break a wolf's neck easily.
