Takes place as they enter the city.

Anu's family had been the most affected, their mother stolen from them. Granted, she had no younglings needing a caretaker, but her youngest were definitely affected by everything. Silvano only had his brother missing, though his mature presence was missed. Savina was not a happy woman either, with her close friend and her eldest son taken captive as a prisoner of war. And there seemed to be very little that would make a smile come on her face lately, but no one was smiling now, were they? There seemed to be no reason to smile much lately, even with the antics of the youth. Even the strangers that joined their midst seemed to sober fast after their initial elation at joining a family.

The Sadira youth was reading the library when the dust and the dim lighting were getting to his eyes. Rubbing at them, he had chosen to leave the library, rather than brooding about the state of the world at the moment. His world seemed to have been on a steady downward spiral ever since Artemis's fall in the winter, and then kept getting worse. Giselle had turned him down, not once, but twice, and that stung him something fierce. He knew he had to be optimistic with her, and persistent. But it was beyond hard to think about doing it further. Leaving the library, he had decided a trip out was what he needed to distract his heartbroken mind. And ran into one of Anu's sons. Silvano knew him vaguely, and knew him more as a cousin than anything else.

Somehow, the usually quiet and rather anti-social Sadira male convinced Cypress to come with him to Halifax. The destination had been impromptu and all of a sudden. Still, the two of them were heading into the city, which had taken the better part of the morning. It was rather brisk out as the weather was turning; fall was here and the winds were getting colder. It was not yet cold enough to bring out the scarf, but Silvano thought it was a good idea to start looking for supplies for the winter. "Okay, where do we start?" he asked his companion, shoving hands into his pant's pockets. After Giselle protested his lack of garments, he had taken up with wearing these old things.

ramble ramble

Cypress felt as useless to his mother now as he had while he had been in Inferni. Days had turned to weeks and the moon continued it cycle and still his mother had not yet been returned to them. He did not know what to do and felt that the sad truth was there wasn't a damn thing he could do to help his mother other than to keep faith. And so he had sat, like a miserable bump on a miserable log, out on the porch of the manor watching the sun as it trailed up and away from the horizon. Wondering if his mother could still see her god and feel his warmth from where the AniWayans kept her.

It was there, on the porch, that Silvano had found him and convinced him to make the trip to Halifax with him. It had seemed they had both been in need of the distraction that the fallen city could offer and the brisk morning air had been perfect for traveling as they made their way to the city. For the journey Cypress had stuck to four legs, not wanting to slow down his companion with his clumsy gait on two. If he would only spend more time in the form Cypress would likely get over his coordination issues, but his clumsiness made him far too self-conscious of the form to use it as his standard.

A nervousness filled the youth as the skeletal towers of the fallen city broke up the horizon. Cypress was beginning to regret coming as the time for him to shift his form to something more useful for scavenging through the human remains neared. Even though no one had yet teased him about clumsiness in his optime form, Cypress only assumed it was because he had kept the secret well. Once Silvano saw it though, Cypress worried he might do just that. He knew he would have teased his brothers for it had he not been the one stuck with such a weakness and so he expected no less in return.

His worries were temporarily forgotten as the wandered into the edges of the city. Cypress had only heard of the wonders that could be found here for this was the first time he had actually come into the city itself. Though he had passed by it on his way to and from Inferni. Blue eyes widened as they took in the multitude of decrepit buildings. Dirty and faded signs marked the streets and some of the buildings that varied in their construction and stages of decay. ”I have no idea.” His voice was tinted with awe, if not a bit overwhelmed. ”What are you looking for again?” Cypress had come along simply because he had nothing better to do. Eyeing an alley with a little bit of cover to shift behind, Cypress trotted over to check it out. ”Hold up a sec, I’m gonna go ahead and just shift here.” He called out as he ducked into the alley. A few minutes later he reemerged, sporting only two legs and sweeping the long, wild crop of dark hair from his eyes with padded fingers, while trying just a little to hard to keep his feet moving fluidly as he walked.

fml i'll get to everything somehow today

The Sadira gave a rolling shrug as he kept up his steady pace. "Anything you think we can use when the snow starts falling." But he stopped in his path as the younger male moved off into an alley. Silvano figured it was a privacy issue and did not turn to watch the other male shift. There was nothing new about it to Silvano, who lived his life in that form, day to day. The young man did not pay any mind to Cypress and his less than fluid way of walking. He didn't care; as long as he could walk on his own two feet and kept their minds occupied, everything would be okay. Giving Cypress a brief glance, he said, "Good? Okay. Lets go."

Walking slowly, rather so, the two of them walked down the street. Silvano scanned the names of the signs of the stores, wondering where they ought to begin. He knew what he wanted; books, books, and more books. But that was no good for winter and it was an entirely selfish desire. Shaking it off, the Sadira looked back at Cypress. "What do you think? Hit clothing stores and hope something is left? Or go find a store for kni- ni.. cooking supplies?" Somehow he managed to transition from talking about knives. There was no reason for it, other than the fact that Silvano wanted to avoid the war; that was why they were here. Knives were part of war and he figured finding cooking things would be better. And maybe Giselle would be happy with their findings. If they found them.

I am assuming it's just some sort of novelty shop Cyp had run across, probably nothing with any quality, but all kinda of neat and odd things, feel free to skip it, Cyp is nubbins at scavenging :x

Each and every step was taken with deliberate action. Cobalt eyes always looking for where he would place his next step. It was slow going for the first little bit. So terribly slow since he still wanted to look around at the city as they went and it didn't help any that Cypress quite aware of how much he was slowing down the other male. Soon enough, though probably not for Silvano, Cypress found an ease to his gait and he found himself thinking less and less about every step as his rarely used form began to feel a little more confident.

Cypress really couldn't think of anything he really needed. Perhaps a few more blankets for his sleeping pile, but human objects just weren't something he had taken a whole lot of interest in. Silvano mentioned clothing and Cypress' ears fell back slightly as he looked down at himself and the over to Silvano and the pants that the taller male wore. "Do you.. think I need clothes?" He asked, obviously unsure himself. There were plenty that wore clothing around the manor and just as many that did not. Cypress spent most of his time in his lupus form so it wasn't something he had ever really considered for himself, but should he? He had always considered more a matter of preference than anything else, but was their some sort of etiquette do it?

Cooking and whatever it might require didn't interest him much either, so he gave only a simple "sure" in responce. It really didn't matter to him if he found anything for himself on this trip. He had just been happy for an excuse to get out of the manor and Alder's looming shadow. "Hey, wanna check out this place?" He asked, as he peered in the dirty window of a store, his nose pressed against the glass. The sign was faded and illegiable, to Cypress anyway, but it appeared to be filled full of all kinda of different things. He could see there were still some clothing in the store, but there were other odd and ins on the shelves and scattered about the floor. It looked interesting at the very least. It seemed this place had a little bit of everything.

The Sadira gave the younger male a funny look, eyes narrowing at him in curiosity. "Need them? Of course not." It was a strange question, to be sure. They didn't need clothes. It was just something that they did if they chose to. Silvano only wore his because Giselle had made an off comment about his lack of it. And he could tell it would make her uncomfortable, so he chose the simplest garment that he could. He patted the younger male's shoulder gently, in a brotherly tap. "None of us need clothes. If you won't want them, you don't need them."

Cypress was terribly indifferent to what they did, the Sadira noticed. Silvano did not care either way and the desire for company was fulfilled either way. But it would be terribly nice if the other male would be less indifferent and more suggestive. And thankfully, he offered. Anu's son went up to a window and stuck his nose against the grimy window. Silvano came up beside him, looking into the darkness. "Huh, sure we could." It looked like a store of all trades and that was something good to look for. "We can probably find something of everything in there."

Silvano went up to the door and pulled hard on it, thrusting it open in a show of effort. It had been wedged tightly from rust and other debris, but it came apart fairly quickly. "Look for a bag or something, anything to carry stuff in." He slipped inside, propping a cinder block into the door way to keep it open. A bunch of cloth bags were on a dusty stand, which the brunette grabbed a pair of, tossing one to the other male. "Shove anything you find interesting or useful and we can show everyone our spoils."

Cypress was still peering through the dirty glass, a hand raised to block the glare from the sun, as Silvano pulled open the reluctant door. The creak it gave as the hinges broke loose and turned startled him and he jerked as he gave Silvano a surprised look before he followed the mottled male inside.

The air inside the shop was stale and musty. The floor was dirty and several items had fallen from their shelves. Gawking around like a fool at all the odds and ins on the shelves and floor, Cypress practically dropped the bag that was thrown to him. Hands fumbling a bit as he tried to grab hold of it, even though it had practically landed right into his arms. ”Thanks.” His attention quickly recaptured by some items on the shelf, a rather angry looking lizard of some sort. Except this lizard had wings. ”Have you been to the city before?” He passed by Halifax twice now on his way to Inferni and back, but this was the first time he had bothered to take a close look at any part of it.

There was a lot of interesting things, but not much seemed to be of any practical use. He had yet to make it over a far wall that appeared to have some clothing and the like. Hopefully there were some blankets too. Though as he made it his way through the aisles filled with various items, including a few glass pipes. Cypress had no clue what they were. It was small wooden box that caught his attention. Yet, when he picked it up and took a closer look there seemed no obvious way to open it. Puzzled, he shook it. Something rattled within the confines, but what and how? His brow furrowed in confusion and he walked over to Silvano. ”Hey, what do you make of this?”
