  • Setting: Throughout the day of the 30th
  • Location: Between the Miki and Suki rivers

  • Form: Optime; no trophies

  • The morning of this day could not come soon enough and undeniably the Issor was glad for it. The predawn morning was greeted with elation for what was to come as well as optimistic expectations for the longterm rewards. Though she would not be the only one to rise in this early morning, X’yrin certainly felt she would be wearing the brightest expression even though her eyes still desired sleep. But sleep would be her reward for fulfilling the day’s tasks… and what a rest she would have.

Leaving quiet instruction with her charge, she hurriedly began preparing for the day. It had become routine while in the Optime form to fashion her hair into a fairly high knot to keep it out of the way while she worked and trained. And for her bangs, she created a headband of stretched white marten fur to keep them from falling her eyes, having yet to find reason in lopping off the unruly tresses. In her daily preparations, she felt no need to adorn her trophies nor thoroughly groom herself other than the quick rasp with a bone comb. She was bound to get messy with that was planned for today. And if she didn’t…well… it only meant she hadn’t worked hard enough.

To little Zeus she whispered a promise to return later in the day and placed an gentle kiss on his head. Her absence would not be for too long, she promised him, and later in the afternoon she would take him out to stretch his legs. Once the little one understood and returned to sleep, she left the inner chambers of the cave to the communal dens to wake her Family. For once the dens did not stink of animal filth, but the scent was not all the way gone. It would with time, but for now it was bearable given that the remnants of the livestock had been cleaned out days before. She was able to step sure-footedly, walking from den to den with gentle awakenings for those that still slept. Leaving them to rise and begin their commissioned tasks, she went to find Asgeir to assist with transporting the wood.

Pendzez had spent the morning in the communal area with the animals. Today was the proposed day to start working on making a barn for these critters. He was asked specifically to be the shepherd for a time being, so the animals would get in the way of the construction of the shelter. He had expressed interest of moving to animals so the rest of the pack may start working. He had been thinking of a few places in the pack area where the animals could take refuge away from the communal dens.

Standing next to one of the mares, he reached out his paw. The mare in return, sniffed at it, then let him run that paw through its head pelt, up along its neck mane to its back. He groomed the docile mare's back and side softly as he waited for the time to pass. The mare just sniffed and eat some of the grass that it found on the soft ground. The other horses, along with the other herbivorous animals, did the same while walking along to find more.

As he groomed the mare some more, he turned to find notice Xy walking about the dens, making sure everyone was up and ready for the task. This is when it was time. With his staff in hand, he banged the bottom on the ground a few times with the rings echoing out. The animals started to move along together in a random direction, which coincidentally was the way the male wanted them to move. As they moved along till Pendzez was behind the group, he trailed so that they stayed together and none stray off.

He looked back briefly to the dens where Xy was coming from now. Hopefully, she would have noticed that the animals were moving off. Either way, there would be no animals left behind. He double checked to make sure anyways. Nope, they were all their, moving along to the open area where they may graze. Turning back to the group, he continued to trail and herd them along away from the grounds.

    Asgeir
But your thoughts will soon be wandering,
the way they always do, When you're ridin' sixteen hours
And there's nothin' much to do
    OOC :: ILU Shaw.

Asgeir had slept as well as he ever did in the bed of his wagon, a swath of grass for a pillow. Despite looking at Sangi'lak as his home, it felt more natural to him to sleep where he had always slept.

The carpenter had spent the majority of the past three days working on the relatively small corral. For now it could be used communally by the animals, but Asgeir knew by next time the cows and ewes entered their seasons, he'd want to have separate pens for the males of each species so their breeding habits could be controlled to an extent. He had controlled Sunny and Speck for the same reasons, fashioning a covering for Sunny so Speck could mount, while ensuring no foal would result. He could not afford to have a slowing down, even if it were a cute one.

He had set the beams for the corral, three by three the first night. Then the next day he collected small rocks and water. Asgeir had made a layer of rocks, then used a bit of the dirt he had scraped from the holes to make a thick mud that he put on top of the rocks. He continued layering, rocks, mud, rocks, mud, till he reached the top of the hole, which he covered with plain dirt. When the mud within dried, it would make a seal around the wood and would hold each beam in the hole a bit better. When the posts were standing, he had used his charcoal and a knife to make small, tapering holes that extended just under halfway through the beam. These were where the pegs would go.

The following day he had planed wood, somewhat unevenly, and made tapering holes in them, too. Then with some help, and using mud as a glue, he banged the pegs through the boards and into each beam. It took several tiring hours, but the corral was done and the animals were herded into it. The rest of the day he used cutting down small trees to fashion more beams and, less important, to plane more wood. Each tree yielded between two and four tall beams, and he cut down about a pawful and a couple more trees.

The next day, X'yrin stirred him in the cool of the morning, and he sat up, stretching. He was to lead the building of a barn today, a structure for each individual animal to stay in and then some. It would be a massive undertaking and he did not expect it to be done today. But they would try. Most of the wood was in his wagon already and he headed along the mountain, westward, to the place they had planned to meet to construct the behemoth barn.

They would use nails for this, mostly, he had decided, so he had not concerned himself with fashioning more pegs. He left the beams long, and set out several. He turned his horses loose; they wandered south, exploring but not straying too far. Then he stood, straightening himself from his normally hunched posture to look for the appearance of those who would help them.

Sira was excited, she was one of the first to know about the project as she was sent as an envoy in a way to ask another pack that they needed help in the project. It was to her luck she made a new friend in this pack and that she was there herself, so it was not so hard to travel with her to get the news out. She was excited and scared. There would be many wolves there and the tiny jackal wasn’t sure how she would take it

She was up as early as X’yrin, having felt strange with the new addition, she felt hurt a little when she was introduced, and now she felt out of place. Perhaps it really was time to go to her own den now, her thoughts were clearer and her life was better, but that thought made her squeeze her eyes closed. No they would surely get her. Once X’yrin was out of the den Sira got up and stretched herself before heading out into the dim morning light. She did her own little routine before heading to the site where they would have the animals. She stood passive for a moment, wondering what she would do... she was so small. even in the bulk of her secui form she was nothing but a tinder to start a fire compared to the stocky forms of her pack. She looked around and then saw the cloud like animals and smiled, then saw the mand Pen... something? His name was hard to pronounce, he was doing something with the animals and she got excited

And in her excitement she didn’t always think the best. She ran for the sheep and started yipping and yowling her jackal tones, which were nothing like the howls and barks of a wolf, but she was not going to pretend to be one. She had no idea exactly what she would do with the sheep but she figured if the man could do something she could as well. The animals trotted around baaing and SIra couldn’t help a giggle as she moved around them. These animals were innocent they would not harm her and it made her forget about all the others that were coming.

  • Personal Task: Barn building with Asgeir

  • X’yrin had found Asgeir not in a den, but in the back of his wagon, strangely enough. Though she supposed it was not unnatural for him since it was an ideal place to rest when on the endless road. But to some degree, she was a little bothered by this. Did he not yet feel comfortable in the pack, she wondered, whilst hoping to some degree this was not the case. When time allotted, she would speak to him about it but for now her time was better spent in the enormous task of constructing the barn.

It was under the condition that the enclosure only faintly resembled the human-like structures that she agreed for its construction on the land. To any other, it would have been dubbed a silly condition and discarded all together, but there was a clear telling in her voice about how strongly she felt against the remnants of the deceased culture. There was a kind of childish notion that as the building was erected, she would lose her phobia in knowing it was built by wolf paws . There would be no eerie sense about it, no ‘ghost’ to haunt its walls. Just… a representation of the physical labors that went into its construction. Something to call ‘theirs’. But as she thought on this, the idea did not seem so childish any more.

She rode out with Asgeir to where the barn would be built, dismounting when they arrived and began unloading the tools from the cart. It was something to do while they wanted for others. Having spied Pendzez and Sira tending to the animals, that only left a pawful of others…and perhaps more if Sira’s mission to recruit had been successful. But only time throughout the day would tell. Regardless, the Issor had every intention to begin.

But your thoughts will soon be wandering,
the way they always do, When you're ridin' sixteen hours
And there's nothin' much to do
OOC :: Front of barn and Wonky side of barn, not to scale.

When the only thing that came to the man's eyes was the sight of a jackal and a white wolf, herding the sheep just within eyesight, Asgeir turned to the lovely X'yrin. The Issor had ridden to the construction site with him and assisted him in carrying the wood nearer to where they needed it. He stood for several minutes scratching his head as he surveyed the ground, wondering where to start.

When X'yrin had proposed the building of the barn that needed to contain four horses, five piglets that would someday be big sows and boars, three sheep and as many cows, as well as maintaining room for more animals that would undoubtedly spawn from these and that would come in with immigrants, he had begun planning in his head. But now that he was looking at the grounds, Asgeir knew it was going to take a bit more than what he had thought. The man struck around looking for a stick, and found a suitably dusty space on the ground. He was no artist, but the shape of the barn was clear in his sketch. The base of the building would be fifteen feet tall by an immense 80 feet long, give or take a bit, which would allow for thirty-two, five foot square boxes, more than enough room to move about in. The ceiling would be roughly double a wolf's height, and while the tallest might have to stoop under the doorway, it would not be an uncomfortable amount.

Once he had figured out the dimensions for the building, Asgeir began working out how to frame it. For maximum durability, having a cross-bar of beams roughly every five to ten feet would be best. Doodling a bit more, he decided on five feet for the front, and ten along each side. He would need to do some serious work with the wood to prepare it best, but before that he needed to get the holes dug. He motioned X'yrin over to his "blueprint" and worked it out with her. Each small side would need six holes, with a mark in the middle to denote doors, while the long sides would need eight holes. The smaller side's holes would be five paces apart, the longer would be ten paces. The holes would have to be plenty deep to ensure each beam would sink enough to stabilize it. Without further ado, Asgeir began working on a corner hole, planning to dig past arm's length.

Word Count :: 268 OOC: Gonna just play jiva in this thread <3

Jiva was quite excited, he had not been able to put his carpenter skills to work in a long time, he even sat down to see if he could remember, thinking about everything his father taught him and was satisfied with what he remembered. Drin had told him about the jackal that brought the news that the new pack needed some help with a project and he jumped all over it. He knew that it took a good few wolves to help with something

So they set off when they were suppose to. It was a small but enjoyable journey. He enjoyed going anywhere with his mate and he did. Upon going to the borders he met the Jackal, a strange child like woman who allowed him in, extremely timidly, though she couldnt’ sto staring at his red mane that was styled into a mohawk. The young man soon caught sight of the workers and then of X’yrin and grinned brilliantly, he had not seen her since the time he had trouble choosing a mate and he waved as they came forward to help. He nearly forgot she was now the pack leader of Sangi’lak. It was good to know she could continue being a leader. She didn’t seem suited for anything less

“Greeting! It’s been a while, so what would you like us to do? I can do just about anything, oh and this here is Palaydrian Soul, my mate” He said proudly, introducing the beauty he had brought along with him. He knew she was eager to help in any way.

As the time slowly passed, the male kept behind the animals with the tendencies looking from critter to critter, making sure that none of them were to stray off from the herd. He had to admit, he was rather impressed by the collection of animals the pack has. When it started, it was none. Yet, the pack thrived to provide animals, then eventually, a herd was formed. Pendzez should really pay more attention to the activities that would take place in the pack, in case that one would catch is interest. However, this activity, he would play shepherd for the alphas this time. Not that he objected to the idea, but he didn't really saw himself as a tender to animals.

Suddenly, yet odd to the male, the herd started moving a little quicker a head than normal. This was proceeded by the sound of a canine creature snarling and snapping. He averted his orbs briefly, finding the female Siras, whom he had a privilege to acquaint himself with. It would appear, given the new circumstances, the male was now not the only one to be tending the animals. He saw delight in this, yet didn't really agree with Siras' methods of moving the animals along. However, if it would get them moving, then Pendzez just kept his lips sealed.

Again, Pendzez turned to divert his sight to the place where he started as he moved along the herd. Slowly, but surely, he was getting further away from the communal areas. Turning back, he saw a large area from land, full of soft grass and edible shrubs to the animals. This would make a perfect place for the herd to graze for a while. As the animals came to the area, the male started backing off slowly, eventually into a stop. The herd stopped too as the bovines and equines sniffed and nibbled along the ground, the chickens pecking along the soil for grubs and the pigs just being lazy.

The male sat upon a nearby rock as his watchful eyes kept themselves on the herd and Siras so that nothing goes wrong. He had a duty, and it needs to be kept. Yet, his eyes also surveyed the field, finding the beauty of it almost instantaneously.

Anyone who wants to interact with the puppy can be the mystery canine mentioned at the end. Big Grin PGP+6 Words-600+

Zeus awoke gently. He wasn’t cold but wasn’t nearly as warm as when Rin slept by him either. He rolled over and felt for her but found nothing. A small whimper echoed in the cave as he called for her attention where ever she had ended up. The pup had found it was hard for him to tell by smell if she was there or not because this was her home. It smelled like her whether she was there or not. So he listened for a moment after whining but heard neither the sound of her shifting in the soft sand or her return call. Where was Rin now?? He jumped to his feet and began sniffing about the cave. Was she gone too? She hadn’t told him she was leaving… she always told him… his still developing mind tried to recall the last time he’d seen her. Yes, she had told him. She didn’t say where but that she would be back. He had gone back to sleep. Why wasn’t she back yet? The pup had assumed she would return before he awoke again because he understood that long periods of time passed when he slept. What he didn’t understand was that he had only been sleeping for a short time since his caretaker had left.

The young pup knew the sting of abandonment though he had no words for it. He just knew he didn’t want to be alone like he was now. The cave was quiet. Only the sounds of running water under the rock and a crackling Zeus didn’t understand filled the air. Rin would be back. She said she would be like momma had… but momma hadn’t come back yet. He whined again and his tail tucked between his legs. He still didn’t understand why his parents had left him or that they wouldn’t come back. Rin hadn’t said to stay! The realization un-tucked his tail and pulled little excited yips from his small maw. He could go get Rin! With nose bent to the ground, he began to look for the newest scent of her in the soft sand.

Most puppies didn’t know enough to go looking for someone at that age. They didn’t understand what they saw outside of the den and that fear of the unknown kept them from venturing to far from home. With no home and no vision to be scared of, the warming scent of his caretaker led him easily out of the cave. He moved with his nose low and stayed on a path as clear as any road would be to a wolf who could see. The steps he took were slow and different than those of a regular wolf. It was only by physical feeling that the little one could avoid tripping over things. But even with his shuffling along he couldn’t avoid every tree or gnarled root. Many times on the way toward his loving Rin he fell on his face or walked into a tree or bush hanging at head level. The scent became harder to follow at one point too, causing him to stop briefly and whine to himself. It was odd and he didn’t understand why her smell didn’t exist as an imprint in the ground anymore but as a trail in the air. But he followed it nonetheless and ended up coming upon the work area after more than a few uncomfortable falls and bumps. The journey had left him a bit distressed and enough so that the work area with its numerous strange sounds and new scents confused the blind pup. He heard someone nearby but didn’t know who or even what was there. He shrunk his already short body down and inched forward a little. Rin? he called in a quiet and unsure voice.

    Someone can’t wait for babies...WC:: 3+ ::

Ever since the day Palaydrian had played lifeguard, she couldn’t stop thinking of her new friend Sira and the the news that their pack needed help. She had already met Jaden and X’ies before happening upon the jackal and was pleased that her assumptions of where Sangi’lak was located were true. When she had escorted Sira back to her lands, she hadn’t tried to find out what pack she was from as she didn’t want to impose, but it was only a matter of days when she put two and two together and eventually learned that the jackal belonged to the same pack the two visitors were from.

Drin quickly learned that Jiva was friends with the leader of Sangi’lak and when a request for help came to New Dawn’s borders, the two did not have any trouble deciding to go. The young Soul hadn’t been outside of the packlands since her trip to Casa di Cavalieri, and she felt it would be a fun journey for her and mate to take. Lately they’d been far too busy with each other, but the chance to explore the outside wilderness beckoned them away from their natural urges. The trek wasn’t hard, a few pit stops now and then when the need arose, but Palaydrian’s heat was finally dying away when they made it to the nomad pack’s borders.

Seeing Sira once more warmed the golden woman’s heart and she had quickly introduced her mate to the jackal who seemed quite taken with Jiva’s styled hair. From one acquaintance to another, the Omega was swept away and introduced to X’yrin. A friendly smile spread across her lips as she curtsied in her optime form, a welcoming gesture she had learned while training with the knights of Casa. Pleasure to meet you, she said before straightening up. Where do you need us? She asked as her ears swiveled towards the source of a timid voice. Maternal instinct flooded the secretly expecting woman as she turned towards the yellow child. Hello little one, she said softly, crouching down to his level as her eyes noticed the pup was blind.

ooc: Aftenoon! Let there be bonding and lunch!

For the better part of the morning, Asgeir and X’yrin continued their work on the barn. After examining the ‘blueprints’ (with a considerable amount of explanation in order for her to understand it), they were well on their way to constructing the foundations. While the elder male dug the holes from one side, X’yrin took the other trying to remain as parallel to him as she possibly could while keeping to the required width of the barn. It was strange digging with hands rather than paws, but the act was just the same and just as effective…if just a little awkward. When the side was finished and they were nearing the ‘back’ of the barn, she paused and returned to the cart to retrieve the readied posts. Having gotten used to sawing the wood after it was measured, she took up the role again in earnest and made the beams ready long after the sun had risen and was nearing its apex.

Though the air was cool, the heat of the sun could be felt along her back, signaling and a fairly subtle fashion that a break was in order. But before then she hoisted another beam then dragged it into position by the made hole…and nearly dropped the heavy thing in shock when a voice long since heard met her ears. She saw first the stalk of auburn hair fixed high in a unique fashion that she knew to belong to her New Dawn friend. And with him a young female sharing the same scent as him. The Alphess smiled to herself, glad to see that her once worried friend had settled his dilemma and found a mate. “Jiva,” she dipped her head in humble greeting then extended the same gesture to his mate. “Palaydrian, it is a pleasure to meet you. I was actually about to call for a little break-“

She paused when hearing the tiny voice pipe up from the grasses. Her eyes grew wide in seeing the little form inches toward them. “Zeus!” Breaktime was indeed called by the little one’s appearance. She dropped down to her knees in front of him, pardoning herself in front of her guests before scooping up the child in a protective embrace. “Little one I told you I would be back,” she whined softly, pressing her nose against his bruised one. “What if you were hurt…?”

The pup was fine as far as she could tell, a little bruised in the muzzle no doubt from his trips and falls, but he was alright and obviously able. Though she could not immediately stave off the worry for his safety. After a bath of endearing licks she let the little one down again and remained where she was. “Well…” she breathed, trying to calm her roused anxiety with a small smile. “I should take this as a call for break. Asgeir and I-“ she gestured to the elder male –“can explain what we have done thus far and what needs to be done before nightfall. While we eat… of course.”

Being confused by all the sound and smells put the pup in a bit of a panic, panic that turned to fear and caused him to slink forward with unsure steps and a lowly held body. The impression on his world that represented someone close and standing on two paws straight ahead of him turned its attention his way. But the voice wasn’t what he expected or wanted. And even worse, she wasn’t part of his family! She didn’t smell like home. Zeus whined but chose not to respond to the stranger, unsure of what he should do.

Thankfully, his caretaker found him only a moment later and he felt her gently pick him up. The safety of her arms instantly made him feel better, but only a little. Zeus knew what he had done was sort of against what Rin had wanted, but not what she had said. He could feign misunderstanding and he did. But Rin, you not tell me to stay. Your gone for so long! He justified himself before licking at her nose a few times. I’m not hurt, I’m okay Rin. I Proms. It was good to hear the worry in her voice. It usually meant she wouldn’t be mad. The larger wolf then spoke up again but not to him.

He was then set down and proceeded to quickly entangle himself between Rin’s legs. He still had no idea what was going on or why there were strangers here but knew he was safe is he stayed close to her. At the mention of food his little tummy grumbled with new found hunger and tail began to fan excitedly.

    Asgeir
But your thoughts will soon be wandering,
the way they always do, When you're ridin' sixteen hours
And there's nothin' much to do
OOC :: Sorry for the holdup. >.< PP with permission.

Asgeir and X'yrin worked long and hard on the foundation of the barn. Though it took the morning to complete, by the time the early afternoon arrived the holes were dug and the wood to hold up the structure was cut to its proper length. X'yrin and he had nearly placed the sum of them when she turned to a voice coming from the east. He placed his before turning, and received the one X'y had been hauling to place it in the next hole, leaving a scant dozen left to fill. All dangerous objects otherwise occupied he turned to also greet the visitors, a generally friendly expression on his face and his black tipped tail wagging broadly behind him.

The first newcomer was introduced to him indirectly as Jiva, a young man with light brown fur and a reddish mane which stuck up in a line from forehead to the back of his head. The man was shorter than he by a fair amount, and Asgeir's first reaction was to dismiss him till the man's claim that he could do "anything". Given the way Jiva's eyes took in the skeleton of the barn Asgeir assumed he meant building, and took some amount more interest. His eyes traveled to the young lady standing next to Jiva, who was introduced by the same as Palaydrian. She was a gorgeous cream wolfess, much as his Karina had been, but with darker points. He offered Jiva a curt nod, extended into a half bow for the lady, and began to answer Palaydrian's query of where he wanted them to work when X'yrin spoke up again, stating intention to call for a break -- then her statement broke off as the small voice of Zeus piped up.

Palaydrian reacted first, crouching to speak to Zeus and then X'y followed, scooping the youngling up to ensure he was alright and chide him for venturing so far from the caves unattended. She concluded her thought to break for lunch and to discuss the project, and Asgeir cleared his throat. I'll ride back to the dens and fetch back some food. Zeus can come with me, if he likes; he can be my big helper. I'll take good care of him, he adopted the solemn tones of the lad, I promise. He whistled once and within a few moments, the white-dappled bay hide of Speck appeared behind him. He swung himself aboard, then led the horse to a rock for ease of mounting by X'y, offering a hand to her for better balance with the sandy pup seated on Speck's withers in front of him. When she was aboard he handed Zeus to her, and allowed a moment for them to get settled to ride before nudging the stallion.

The horse set off at some pace slightly smoother than a trot but not as fluid or as fast as a gallop. He did not wish to startle or scare Zeus, and so talked to him and X'yrin the entire time, til they got to the caves. He assembled some food, leaving X'y atop his steed. It was perhaps not a feast but enough to sate the ones gathered. Asgeir slung the bag over Speck's ample hindquarters, and carefully remounted the stallion. The return journey was as smooth as the departure had been, and took next to no time. When they arrived, he slid from the horse and set the sack down, then assisted his Alphess off the horse's back so she could distribute food.

And you don't feel much like ridin',
You just wish the trip was through

Word Count :: 318 OOC: Tian/ Palaydrian will not be posting for a bit so she can be skipped. Any PP I did with Drin has been OKed with her player.

Jiva couldn’t help but smile at the calm way X’yrin greeted him and he gave a nod to her. She wasn’t one to be excitable, not like him. He got excited by things so quickly. He wasn’t sure if that was a good or a bad thing. In any case he nodded. He wished he were here before-hand ot have earned the break but it took them quite a bit of walking even though they were neighbors. Ne nodded and then turned to Drin who spoke to the pup. She didn’t seem to take unkindly to the child’s reaction to her... was nothing at all, but Jiva could tell she was worried and he was as well. The boy was quiet and seemed scared and Jiva could see that he had a problem with his eyes. He wasn’t one who was use to blind wolves but he had been near some before and was comfortable in a way with them. He wasn’t so sure about this puppy.

“That would be splendid. I am sure that my father’s lessons won’t go to waste here at least.” Jiva said with a kind smile and took Palaydrian’s hand and gave it a gentle squeeze to reassure the woman X’yrin would do right by the pup and she would be useful enough in helping. She had insisted on coming as the jackal had told her about it. He watched as the man jumped on the horse and announced he would get some food. Jiva envied him. He wanted to learn how to ride a horse since he was a pup but his father never took the liberties of teaching him... perhaps it was because he didn’t know exactly how. Now he lived in a pack that really didn’t need them and he wasn’t going to shirk wolf tradition for it. He did that well enough as it was.
