Firefly didn't believe that she'd deserved what Cercelee had thrown at her. She believed that she'd been in every right to do what she had, the only place she'd gone wrong was lying to the pack and getting caught, but the fact that Haku had thought he had any right to take her son away from her, he was mistaken. She had returned to her own cabin across the lands from Haku's place and had thrown herself upon the old sofa. She had never thought that anything would happen to the two small boys inside Phoenix Valley. She'd been there just days before and the two were perfectly find. It could have happened anywhere, she knew that.. but Conor was missing and the pack would blame her for it now. She wouldn't admit it but she would blame herself too.

The woman had cried bitter tears the night before, not knowing if her son was live and being denied any sort of communication with her other. There was little or nothing keeping her in the packlands now and she was almost to the brink of walking away from it all. She could take Emwe and leave, the pack couldn't stop her, they wouldn't dare.. but she knew in the end that the child was better off in the pack than with her if she did leave. She didn't even know where she'd go if she left Dahlia de Mai. She just sighed to herself and pushed the thoughts aside for now.

Firefly stared blankly at the fireplace where a small fire crackled and purred happily as it ate at the dry wood she'd dumped in it's maw. The woman had sat there half the morning, holed up in her cabin to keep out of the face of the pack. She knew that sooner or later the word would get out and the nasty cruel comments would come pouring in. She could feel her skin prickle just at the thought as she shut her eyes and wrapped the blanket around herself tighter.

Four stubby legs carried the young pup across the ground, tail wagging and his nose nearly into the grass as he was looking for the source of his mother's smell. She was here allright! His nose wasn't even close to as keen or trained as the noes of a grown wolf, although he would attempt until he found success. It did not go very fast, partly because the little fat child could only walk so fast, but mostly because he went this way and that, not quite being able to understand that her mother most likely had moved in a straight line when she got here. The trail was a little old, as well, and it didn't help him at all. In the distance (it seemed like an eternity away, although he was just about 400 meters away from it) he could see the outline of a building, and wasn't quite sure if he thought his mother would be there. Sitting down for a second, the pup whimpered in dismay at himself, and his failure at tracking the gorgeous woman down. He hadn't seen her in so long! And all he wanted was a little hug. Cercelee and Alexey had been acting as if his mother was a bad person, but he knew she wasn't. She was the best in the whole world, and she was nice to him, too! With this in mind, the pup found new strength, and before he knew it he was at the door of the tremendously large building(!), knowing she was in there. Her smell was everywhere! Two small paws clawed the door, as it was too large and heavy for him to even think about opening. Instead his front paws worked furiously to gain his mother's attention, while his hind legs desperately tried to keep him upright and not tumbling backwards. He was so proud at having found her, too, and a wide grin was on his maw as all his effort was directed at the big wooden structure. He was such a good boy!

Firefly had almost fallen asleep on the couch watching the flames flicker and dance before her emerald eyes when the soft sound of the small paws on the door finally cut through her drowsiness and a soft growl escaped her throat. Dropping to the floor Firefly grew annoyed at the fact that someone was already seeking her out. A million thoughts flickered through her mind as she approached the door, assuming that it was either another pissed packmate or one that wanted to rub her nose into the dirt over her newest rank.

Pressing her face up to the window she glanced out the window but couldn't catch sight of anything through the foggy glass. Her ears pinned back suddenly as she wondered just what the hell was going on now. Dropping back down to all fours again she sighed and pulled the door open, more than slightly surprised by who was making all the racket. "Emwe? What.. how did you get here.." She kept her ears pinned back as she wondered if her once mate even knew that his son wasn't at home where he probably should have been. Here she was suppose to be the bad parent and the babes just flocked to her doorstep.

Sighing softly Firefly bent down and nuzzled her son as she asked. "Does your father know you're here.." She hoped secretly that he didn't.. but then again she didn't want the bastard showing up on her steps demanding their child back.

Soon he was rewarded for all his efforts, and the door opened to reveal the glorious form of his mother. Squealing, Emwe jumped once, twice, and darted into the building. He'd never really been here before, he thought. Or perhaps he had, but when he had been staying with uncle Ly he could have forgotten. It smelled nice in here! It was nice because mommy was here, and mommy was nice. As he spun in circles (with his energy level it was a wonder he was still that chubby, really!), he tried to give his mother a good and proper answer to her question. I's tracked you! I walked and then you was in my nose! His paws had by now fully investigated the floor of this place, and carried him back to his mother to squeeze his face into her furs, not caring exactly where, as long as it was on her. Oh! She smelt so nice. She always did. Mommy was best at everything that was nice. And daddy was best at everything that was strong, or something. His face stayed in the furs for ages until he couldn't squeeze it in there anymore, because he was a little bit tired in his legs. Instead he sat down next to his mother, his tail sweeping the floor he sat on in a nice half circle behind him, eyes looking up to the most beautiful woman in the world. Why hadn't he gotten any praise yet? He deserved it! He'd found her, all by himself! He was smart and good, and she should tell him so. Because he was. Waiting, she didn't say that, but instead asked him a funny question. Daddy didn't know, because Emwe had been on an adventure. But why did that matter, when Emwe was a smart boy? Sometimes mommy was strange, but the boy replied to her question anyways, because he was smart, and he knew that smart boys should do that. I's not seen daddy today, I was on an adventure, and then I found you instead! Looking around himself, he could smell mommy on everything here. Did she live here? Why did she live here, when she could live with daddy and Emwe? Why are you here?

Firefly couldn't help but laugh in spite of herself as Emwe showed his pride and happiness at finding her and how quickly he dashed into the house. The golden bronze woman glanced about outside a second before shutting the door and shaking her head. She was greeted with the circle turning form of her son as he was declaring just how he'd found her. She grinned at the boy and leaned against the closed door as he explained in that oh so cute puppy way just how he'd came to finding the lowly ranked woman, aka mommy.

When he'd dashed over to press himself against her she didn't even stop to think as she bend down and groomed the top of his head as she chuckled. "You're going to be a mighty tracker when you grow up if you managed to find me that fast!" she cooed to her son, knowing that anyone else in the pack would have thought she was up to something if they'd seen the softer side to the bitch of a woman. She knew he deserved a world of praise but the world had come crashing down around her and though she had had it coming she hadn't been prepared when the storm hit.

She wrinkled her nose up when he spoke of not seeing his father all day. It figures she thought as she glanced down at the boy. He was old enough to have his adventures but she was surprised that he'd got past the rest of the pack. Alexey was probably already on his trail trying to track the boy. Not that Firefly cared if the caretaker found him here, he was still her son and she had just as much right to be with her child as his father did. She might not be part of the council anymore but she was Emwe's mother. Her thoughts were invaded though by the question that Emwe asked.

"Well, this is where I've got to stay now.." She glanced towards the window and the world outside as she spoke, not knowing how to explain to Emwe that she wasn't welcome in the home he shared with his father any longer. "I stayed here before you were born.. and now that you're older I've come back" He had a whole host of wolves that looked after him anyways. It wasn't like he really needed her there all the time. She'd done her duty and now he'd have to grow up a little and realize early that the world wasn't all butterflies and buttercups.

There it was! He was a good boy, mommy said so, mommy said he'd be the best in the whole world even! Well, maybe not exactly that, but he was sure she had meant that. Yes, he altered it a little in his mind, because he knew that that was what she had meant. That was how he felt, anyways. The boy sat next to his mother, tail wagging at that same speed, his tongue lolling out of his mouth as he smiled with it open, happy to the extreme at finding praise in his mother's words. In fact, he had to run a little bit in circles after that, and promptly did so, but it didn't last long, perhaps half a minute, before he was back at his mommy, pressing himself against her at random again. Mmm mommy. He had been at uncle Ly's place for so long, and mommy hadn't come that often, he'd missed her! Because she was so nice and smart and beautiful. She was probably the best woman in the world, nothing like that angry copper girl and the angry white one, too. They were all angry, but not mommy. Mommy sometimes laughed when Emwe said things, and that was nice. The line of thought which lifted Firefly up to the level of gods, if not higher, was interrupted when she answered his question - which he had already forgotten. But, hadn't mommy been with daddy forever? The boy did not completely understand that his mother had had a life before he was born, and that was one thing - but he knew that it made more sense if she continued to live with daddy now, instead of not doing it. Still, she was mommy, and she was very smart, so it must be right. Can I stay here? Tail wagging, the boy beamed up at his mother, confident that her answer would be yes. And then daddy could come too, right?

Firefly watched her little boy go through his silly antics, the dancing and the smiling eyes he showed her as she stood there lost between disappointment for the actions she'd been reprimanded for and disgust in herself over the fact that she'd been caught. She really wished that she could be so laid back like the small boy and just be able to toss away the events that the whole lot of them had just gone through but it wasn't so easy for her, she was an adults and she had responsibilities and duties.. atleast she had til a few days before. Now she was the dirt beneith anyone and everyone's feet.

When Emwe came back to show his affection one more time and bury himself in her pelt she couldn't help but smile, too soon though he'd pulled away and the happy feelings seemed to vanish with the warmth where his body had been. Then those soft little puppy eyes did their magic as the question came. She opened her maw but no words came out as she just sighed, her shoulders drooping as she shook her head. "I don't know Emwe.. I'm not sure if it's my choice anymore." She didn't know what his father or Cercelee would think if Emwe moved in with her, she didn't even know if either of them would even allow it after the recent events. She smiled weakly to her son and tried to reassure him. "Don't get me wrong.. I'd love to have you stay.." Why did everything have to be so complicated.

His head was cocked sideways and his tail's dashing did not slow down as his mother obviously felt heavy at heart responding to his question. Him being a pup, though, he did not see all the signs that were there, how her shoulders drooped, how she sighed. But he did notice that she wasn't as happy as she should be, because Emwe knew how mommy was when mommy was happy. Or at least he thought he did. And this was not it! And her words were strange too. He didn't exactly grasp what she meant with the whole not sure if it's her choice anymore thing. Then she said something else, about would love to have him stay. His eyes was kept fixed on her face and his tail kept wagging, his face as blank as his mind. What did it mean? He didn't know, but he was certain that if he waited like this, a more understandable answer would be granted him. It had happened before, and the solution he was using now had worked before. His experience with social life was limited, really, since his father wasn't particularly enthusiastic about his children, Conor was on the same level as him. It limited Emwe's experience to his mother, his beautiful beautiful mother, unless one counted uncle Ly. Uncle Ly had taught him some fun words and stuff, and told him stories about Conor being eaten by a bear! Uncle Ly was the best, but not the best best, that was mommy. His tongue lolled as he looked at her, smiling with an open mouth, his tail continuing to sweeping the floor. Mommy was pretty.

Her children always saw a side of her that no one else got to glimpse and it broke her heart the way that Emwe just sat there and looked up at her. She didn't know how to explain to Emwe that she'd done something wrong and that there were a lot of the pack that were very angry with her. She knew that Emwe had enjoyed his time with Lysander but the pack wasn't to pleased that she'd known where the boys had been the whole time. She just shook her head and closed her eyes, listening to that tiny tail thumping so happily against the floorboards. Tears began to blur her vision as she began to realize just how bad she's screwed up.

Crouching down she picked up Emwe and held him tight against her chest. She didn't know if there was even a way of explaining things to where he could understand, but if there was she didn't think she would even want to try. She ran her fingers across Emwe's head and down his back as she sighed softly. "I'm Sorry Emwe.. mommy screwed up.." She closed her eyes and just wished she could make it right again. They hadn't been the happiest family in the world, but they had been a family atleast.

She lifted Emwe up in the air and tried to smile as she asked him. "What have you been up to with daddy?"

All of a sudden, mommy seemed sad, and then she was holding him close to her. She smelled nice, and at first his tail didn't know exactly what to do with itself as he felt such joy at being close to his mother's furs and smell, so close. She sighed and rubbed his back, and then said things he didn't really understand. It was fortunate that he didn't understand the word "screwed", but since she said sorry, he understood that she must have done something that was not good. Only people who had done something wrong said sorry, he'd learned it the hard way. Emwe couldn't imagine what whatever she had done would be, though, because he thought that mommy was perfect. No one was like her, and she certainly was the most beautiful person he'd ever seen. Since he didn't understand, he said nothing again. He was like that with things that were difficult to understand - it was better to shut up and pretend you understood, than speak up and reveal that you didn't! He felt quite smart at thinking that, really.

The moment passed, and he was flying in the air, feet dangling, as she help him up, now smiling. It seemed to Emwe that she didn't smile as she used to always, but he wasn't able to see why. He wasn't good or trained enough at reading body language's finer details yet - no doubt he'd be better at a later point in life. His tongue was lolling out of his mouth and his tail continued to play the back-and-forth-game as he hung there and heard mommy ask him a question. The movements of the tail decreased a little bit in intensity, and for a moment the boy had a strange face, as if he couldn't make up his mind. Daddy was strange lately, and never came out of his room much. Alexey came to see him though! She was kind of nice, even if she had been very angry when she found him at the cabin. Daddy's is hiding. He never comes out. A cryptic response to such a question, but all the other info was obvious in his mind, and he didn't see why his mother wouldn't be able to as well.

Firefly enjoyed the warmth of her little boy against her chest as the weight of all the pains she caused weighed down upon her. She felt so stupid for getting in this situation and the pain it must have caused her children. She didn't care as much for the emotions of the pack, they had turned against her so quickly like a mob, not even willing to listen to what she had to say.. and if they didn't want to hear her side of things than there was nothing she had to feel for them. The emerald eyed woman sighed as she felt the beating of her son's small tail against her side. She was happy that atleast her son wanted to see her but it made for a really lonely life if it was just her and her son to talk to.

The playful movement into the air and the lighter feelings made it seem a mockery of the real pain she was in, but she believed that the small boy deserved better and she was going to atleast let him believe things weren't as bad as they seemed. There was no sense scaring him with the reality of everything. She watched the puzzlement on his face as he was quiet before deciding just what the answer to the question that Firefly had placed before him.

When he finally did answer she frowned slightly, not sure if she liked the fact that Haku didn't pay the boys any attention but she wasn't going to press on it since she doubted that Emwe could tell her the whole of it. "Well, if Daddy hides all the time and there's nothing for you to do there you can always come here and see me." she doubted that he would be able to find her if she was outside the lands or outside within the large expansion of packland but finding her at the cabin was good enough for now. She had little reason for going anywhere else anyways, she doubted anyone wanted to see her.

As his mother spoke, the boy seized the opportunity to press his face against her again - it was always nice. Not one of those things you could grow tired of, like playing alone or trying to make a conversation with Conor. Ever since Conor had come back from his adventure he was a lot more quiet than before, and the conversations were sometimes a bit weird. What he wasn't aware of, of course, was the fact that Conor was just slightly more intelligent than himself, or had at least developed further down that path. Perhaps he would catch his brother at a later stage, but currently he was a little bit behind. As his nostrils took in her scent the little boy smiled, unaware of the chaotic everyday life of his broken little family, or the mental turmoils his brother was going through. All he could sense was the warm embrace of his mother, this saint - the most beautiful woman in the world. She was never wrong.

Mommy said he could come visit her, and suddenly the boy pulled his face from her furs and looked at her, puzzled. Why, perhaps she could just come and make daddy stop hiding instead? It wasn't that he didn't remember that she had said she had to stay here, he just didn't see the link between that, and not being able to live with daddy. Not strange, either, as she had simply made a statement with no explanation. Maybe Daddy's is nicer if you live in the house again?

She couldn't help but sigh as Emwe snuggled up against her. She just wished that she hadn't set that whole plan into motion or that Alexey hadn't found them the day before she was to retreave them from their keeper. She was happy that Lysander had atleast treated them well. She didn't blame him for Conor running off, she'd done the same when she was little, but it had made things even worse for her in the end. Conor had been found luckily but the pack had refused to let her see him and she didn't even know how he was. "Emwe.. is Conor ok?" she asked suddenly, wondering if her little boy could tell her anything on what Conor was going through. The rest of the pack acted as though she didn't deserve to know how her own child was fairing. She knew she was in trouble for her actions, but the punishment she was being dooled out was beyond cruel.

She leaned her head against Emwe's and was quiet a moment, catching the puzzled look that seemed to linger on his tiny face as she tried to keep the tears from threatening her eyes. Emwe asked her a question which made her pull away from the close contact as she shook her head and laughed bitterly. "Daddy would be even angrier if I was there.. sorry Kiddo." She knew that he wanted them both there with him and she wished it could be that easy for the boy but she knew there was no way. She'd destroyed anything that might have lingered after he'd shattered their relationship.. he tried to tell her she only had herself to blame.. but she knew it wasn't true.

It didn't occur to the child that she didn't know how Conor was, because it was hard to comprehend that not everyone around you knew everything you knew. When him and Conor was playing, or at least before when they had done so, it had been as if they were in each other's heads, and every idea that came out of one was instantly created and played out by the other. In reality they simply had good imagination and allowed themselves to be carried away by their play, but of course this did not occur to him either. Looking up at his mother he smiled at her as he spoke, confident that Conor was fine, even if he was a little bit smaller than himself. Conor is so small! He doesn't play so much anymore, but he likes food. A decent summary in his opinion. It was all true!

It seemed his question had been funny - which was always good - but he couldn't understand it. In his own opinion, his mother sent him mixed signals he could not yet fully understand, but he decided to rely on her words more than her physical signs - it was clearer that way. In truth he wasn't very good at body language, but it would come with age. But, when he listened to the words he didn't completely understand them either. His nose wrinkled in a thoughtful manner as he seemed to stare at his mother's arm, before he lifted his face to his mother's again. Why? It was only logical to ask.

She was so glad to hear that Conor was back and doing well, atleast from what Emwe said he seemed to be doing better. She had not let the pack know how worried she'd been when she'd discovered that Lysander had lost Conor, but it hadn't been long before he'd been found. Alexey of course had been the perfect little pack member and had come waltzing back into the lands proudly displaying that she'd found Conor too. Firefly hated that woman so for taking everything that was rightly hers but in the hierarchy of the pack there was little she could do anymore. She wished that she could catch her outside the pack lands, but still she knew that was pointless because the bitch would just go running to Cercelee.

Firefly smiled down at Emwe as she commented, trying to forget her own issues at hand. "Well, he'll get bigger in time, sometimes it just takes a while." She hoped that he would shoot and grow quickly, she didn't want to think of what he looked like after being out on his own for so long. The only good thing about Alexey finding him was the fact that he had been found. She sighed softly as she ran her fingers through Emwe's fur as she thought about all the changes that had so suddenly crashed down around her.

She was brought out of her little daze by the one word that Emwe had uttered. She wished that it could be easier to make him understand but she didn't know how. She just shook her head as she walked him over to the couch and laid down, placing Emwe on her chest as she tried to find the words to make him understand. "Because Daddy and the rest of the pack think that I shouldn't have taken you to Ly's. Mommy lied to them and they're not happy with Mommy now." Boy, did it sound so stupid now as she explained it to Emwe. It would have been nice it she'd realized how pathetic the idea had been when she'd first had it.

Sorry for the wait

........
........

The child snuggled up against her and listened to her voice with a face of sheer happiness, as she said Conor would become larger in time. Emwe hoped so, because his brother had said he didn't like to be small. And Emwe wanted Conor not to be so sad - it was bad to be sad. And he seemed to be sad all the time, almost. Maybe they should go on an adventure, then it would be all right! And then maybe they could find magic and Conor would be just as big as Emwe was. Yes, maybe that was the solution.

........His legs danced in the air as Firefly lifted him and went to the couch to lie down, and then he was placed on her chest, faces every so close. He loved lying next to her chest and tummy, because it was warm and she smelled so many nice things - it was the best place to lie. He made a face as he tried to understand what she was saying. So it was everyone else that didn't like mommy? Or maybe they didn't like uncle Ly! That would be weird, because both of them were very nice. But uncle is nice! And mommy is too... not understanding and sad at the same time, he first looked at her face and then rested his head on his paws, looking into the distance of his thoughts. Everyone should like everyone, because then everyone would be happy. His heart was filled with this idea, but not with happiness - sadness. Somehow he didn't think that could ever happen.

Firefly didn't understand just how bad things were for the two puppies in their father's home, if she did she probably would have made Emwe go back and get Conor and she would have left with them here and now. She knew that she'd screwed things up terribly but there wasn't much she could do for it all now. She'd always be at the bottom of the ladder when it came to the rest of the pack and she didn't see that changing anytime soon. She closer her eyes and sighed, the scent of her son filling her senses as she tried to relax, wishing this was all just a bad dream.

When she opened those emerald orbs again she realized that she was indeed in the real world and there was no way she could run away. She traced her fingers across Emwe's ears as he tried to find fault in the words she'd spoke. A sad smile creeped across her muzzle as she admitted, "to you, and Conor we'd always be nice.. but when you get older you'll understand.. not everyone deserves to be nice to.. sometimes you find yourself in situations where you have to be mean.." Haku had forced her into a corner and she'd fought the only way she knew how. It had been a desperate attempt and everything would have worked out fine if Alexey hadn't been so obsessed over the boys. She really couldn't wait til she got the chance to let the bitch have it. To think they'd been friends once...

Sorry for the wait, again. I'm back on track now though Smile if you think the thread is too old to still be up we can close it if you like - your call.

........
........

She was silent for some time, and as impossible images of everyone being friends flashed by his silvery eyes he felt his heart gaining weight. Oh, it would never happen, would it? This was proof - others did not love mommy as he did, and there was something wrong with the world. His gaze was absent, looking on into realms wholly different from the physical one, but he was jerked out of it as his mother's fingers suddenly swept across his head, stroking him. The face that had been puzzled and sad had some warmth added to them, and he closed his eyes - enjoying the feel of her hand. The sadness, though, would not fully let go.

........Mommy's pretty voice spoke, and Emwe's ears perked straight upwards as the child burst out of his relaxing state and was immediately agitated, as if one had flipped a switch. No way! There would never be a time where you needed to be mean, because Emwe would never be mean! He was a good boy! His face was alight as he proclaimed his innocence (which could not be argued), chest proud and his stance heroic. Emwe will never be mean! Emwe does what mommy says because he is a good boy, and he will always be a good boy. No one will ever be sad, not even angry womans! His tail wagged rapidly behind him as he spoke of what he knew must be truth.

(we could just wrap it up soon or something with her telling him he has to get back to his daddy before he misses dinner or something..)

She couldn't help but laugh softly at the determination of her son when he'd decided that he would never be mean to another, though the name he'd given Alexey caused a flicker of hurt to course through her veins. She had been the first to try and save her from Inferni and she'd been the first to turn on her. Some friend she'd been. She tried to clear her mind of the thoughts though as she ran a finger across Emwe's forehead and down his nose as she smiled.

"Hopefully you'll never have to be.." She doubted that the world would save him from knowing the hurt and pain of cruel souls but she hoped that his spirit atleast was strong enough to where he didn't have to turn on them as well and enforce their own breed of spite and anger. She hadn't been strong enough to avoid the temptation to lash out upon another but though her children looked like her she doubted that they would become anything as dangerous or reckless as their parents.

Sounds good - his mood is easy and shifty anyways :] A few posts and we're good?

........
........

His mother laughed at him, but it wasn't mockery - it was a pleasant sound which reverberated through his heart. No matter what anyone said, he's always be good. And he's always love his mother, because she was the best and prettiest woman in the world. The boy was oblivious to how Alexey was caring for him much more than either of his parents did, and better at that, despite being alone. Still, the illusion of a family not in pieces shone through his mind, and he still carried hope that one day mommy would come back and everything will be fine. And then Conor wouldn't have to be so sad anymore either. It would be magnificent.

........Her fingers ran through his furs, and as the boy enjoyed the feeling of her touch and smell and warmth, his tail wagged happily behind him, bouncing into her every second swing. She spoke as if there existed doubts that he would reach the goal of life he'd just proclaimed, but in his mind there was no doubt. It was strange to find such a desire to do good in a child which had come from the oddest of couples, a pair of harsher beings than himself, some who would work the world to their own benefit. The boy did not recognize any of these facts, and even though his world would one day shatter, today was not the day. Today was the day when his mother was a saint.

........Turning around where he lay, he let his little (though a little bit fat) tummy point upwards, and he smiled broadly at her, wishing to improve her impression of him as a good boy. The best one in the world, in fact. As he was on the verge of saying this, his tummy decided to act upon this sudden fresh air, and gave a loud growl. Momentarily shocked, the boy's wagging ceased, and he looked at it before looking at his mother again. Ow... He hadn't known he was hungry. Perhaps he should have thought of that before coming here. Eyes of sadness, he looked at it again, not wanting it to be hungry. Perhaps if he ignored it he could stay with mommy longer?
