The words were meaningless. Oh, she heard them well enough. She had been told the stories, but this did little to quell her self-righteousness. Instead, they both chose to ignore her. A fire flared up in her chest at this, unable to stand being ignored. That was far worse than the stinging, sharp pain of being struck. This hurt her inside, where her eyes couldn’t see. The rabbit was released from her jaws as her head lifted and her attention sharply focused.

Her pudgy face contorted in open irritation. But still, they wouldn’t look at her. A growl rose deep in her throat. They were doing this on purpose to spite her—she knew it. Slowly, she rose to her feet. Violence blossomed in her heart. She growled again, louder this time, demanding their undivided attention.
