Green eyes shimmered softly in the morning haze. He had been out on his run for about two hours and in that time, the october sun had risen. The mornings were freezingly cold, moist air making it harder to breath. But as the sun came up, it chased away the cold and baked the ground dry. This in between period of autumn was a funny one, Saul's first in his life. It seemed as though the weather didnt know what it wanted- the nights a early mornings were so cold they hurt, but the summer sun still had her foot in the doorway and decided she would warm the earth for at least half the day before prince autmn stamped his foot in the evenings. So despite his early morning bath which had left him cold, the sun had risen now and it warmed the fur on his back. It was delicious.

The childish yap of a puppy warned Saul that she was coming well before she was aware that he was there. Saul twisted around, watching the grey-tan puppy chasing a mouse his way. She was so absorbed in her task that as she grew closer, she didnt notice him. She just clipped his front paw before pulling up short and allowing her prey to get away. A sick feeling stirred in his stomach. When he had lived on his own for two months, any food was necessary. But he forced it away, telling himself firmly that she was just a child and a child that would be provided for. A warm smile spread over his muzzle as she spoke, her soft voice adorable.

"Don't worry sweetie, we'll find another one..."

He cooed softly, tempted to stroke her head with his paw. Since seeing his brother with his new adopted children, Saul had a flash of paternal longing every now and then. This pup was young, perhaps only two months old. She needed looking after. A smile graced the tawny and cream coloured male as he lowered himself to her level, laying on the warming floor. Keen green eyes glanced around, disappointed when he couldnt see another mouse. But that didnt mean he had to tell her that. It seemed, as of late, Saul had turned into something of a compulsive lier. Cocking his head softly to the side, he made a soft shh noise.

"You have to be real quiet, else they wont come out!"

He whispered dramatically for effect. He enjoyed this part of being a pack member. How they could all fit together seamlessly. He didnt even have to know her name and he was playing along, humouring her and playing her games. She was a cute puppy and Saul chuckled softly as he waited for her to crouch and listen as he intended for her to do.
