The stem of a flower twirled absently between the girl's faded fingers, the withered petals looking sadly up at eyes of purest Lapis Lazuli. China returned the bittersweet gaze. She knew that winter was essential to the cycles of the Earthmother; the shedding of old life to make room for the new, the continuous circle of peace and existence. But that didn't mean that the Lykoi princess didn't have it in her heart to feel sorry for the crumbling blue petals. Sighing softly, and releasing a small puff of white air into the crisp air, China continued to wander.

She and Sage had amiably parted ways to explore this place. She and her sisters, though deeply connected, did not always feel the pressing need to be surrounded by one another. They were independent and coexistent spirits, not bound by any material attachments but the strong love they shared. But, China thought almost grumpily, she would have given anything right about now for one of their perfectly-formed joints. Nobody knew how to make a good one quite like her kin.

The forest around her was growing bleaker, come winter's grasping talons. Feeling the urge to quell the hollow silence with the lively tunes of her heart, China delicately tucked the sad blue flower into her short-cropped hair. It sat jauntily there amongst the dark strands, prettily framed between elegantly large ears. From a bandage wrapped tightly about her upper right arm she pulled a small wooden instrument; a reed pipe. Lovingly, the girl caressed it with her delicate fingers, then putting lips to it she began to play.

At once, the sweet music lilted into the cold, ebbing out in welcoming waves of peace and loves. The birds that remained in sparse treetops raised chorus to her sound. Like a pied piper she wandered, enjoying the magic she could create with the smallest of breaths.
