@&#&$The call had started him from his sleep but he had come quickly, leaving Alacrity behind. Whatever news there was he could deliver to her in the warmth of the den--he didn't think it would do her much good to be out in the bitter cold of a January morning. Sooner or later he'd have to do something for her, and by the scent of blood and Gabriel's words, he saw that time had run out: he had no choice. Certain things would have to happen immediately. The painted woman would need clothes (silly as the concept had always seemed) in case they had to run and retreat; construction of Inferni's greenhouse would need to commence at once. Odds were they wouldn't have anything viable for months, but who knew how long the battle would last?
@&#&$That Haku now stood at Dahlia's helm did not necessarily surprise him--he'd never understood the strange relationship between Cercelee and her pet devil in the first place. It was only a matter of time before the shit-brown demon snapped the leash she'd placed around his neck and went berserk. He was downright horrified to hear that both Kaena and now Gabriel had been attacked; why hadn't he heard of this sooner? Cotl's exclamation caused his ears to fall back and others seemed excited, and here he looked to the leader alone. His voice was low; Anselm was not so enthusiastic about the situation. "That man is sick," he said. "Kill the head and the body will crumble." He was certainly not trying to tell the Aquila what to do--he was just voicing his frank thoughts on the matter. Some of the Dahlian wolves were downright agreeable; it was just their psychopath of a leader that had always given them headaches.

@&#&$Anselm was convinced that as soon as Haku was taken out, the rest of his hapless minions would relent. The Dahlian alpha was not above attacking his own mate or kin, as he'd recently discovered--he wondered if any of them would pledge loyalty to the wolf at all if only they knew the extent of his sins. Anselm's sharp gaze made one thing clear: he had a plan.
