a warning to the people, the good and the evil

I figure another reply from everyone would get us wrapped up? If anyone wants a thread with Gabriel to discuss stuff, PM me about it. Word Count: 827

In Character

Each of their faces told him a different story. Halo’s face was a blur, as if she was pulled in two different directions. Gabriel considered this only because she was green when it came to battle and to war—she had killed, certainly, but he did not know if she was prepared for the carnage ahead. Cotl’s voice was the first to rise, a battle cry and a war shriek, followed next by the much more familiar and expected response from Hybrid. Of all the coyotes, Gabriel was glad that Hybrid reveled in carnage and bloodshed. He was a powerful tool, and one that would do whatever Gabriel asked as long as he had blood by nightfall. Perhaps, too, they would be able to take more signs for their borders; Gabriel had seen the fresh head mounted and scented his Hydra and mother all over it. They would have more. Of this, he had no doubt.

Anselm’s reaction made Gabriel’s face darken, but only because he was upset his cousin lacked the enthusiasm he had expected. The necessity of casualties was something Gabriel accepted; he was a veteran and a realist, and knew it would take much to get their teeth in the Rosea. If anything, last night had proven Haku was not taking chances. He had summoned help long before Gabriel and Samael had even found the blue-eyed devil. Haku would not risk him life and had proven in the past he was not above using women and children to get what he wanted. Still, Gabriel’s amber eyes focused on his cousin and saw that his mind was spinning. A subtle and short nod was all the go-ahead Anselm needed. The Aquila trusted his cousin to do what he thought was necessary. Their Caelum would not take a risk without letting Gabriel know.

Kaena’s presence at his side was something that Gabriel was glad to see. She was not only expected to be there, but it was her right. This war was for her, and for him, and they would see her restored to the woman she had been. This much Gabriel knew in his heart. Even so, their fresh wounds were enough proof that Dahlia de Mai had no intention of backing down without a fight. Haku had known that when he had gone after Kaena—mother and grandmother to more then half the clan. They fought not only for her honor, but for their own. More then that, it was time now to show Haku Soul he had no right to trample over these lands and commit such atrocities without retribution. Both he and his pack now had to suffer. There was no way around it.

Their lone Hastati, Snake, reminded Gabriel much of his son. He saw the shadow in his eyes and welcomed it. Though he did not know much of the boy’s past, he knew that Snake was level-headed and had a drive behind him. Before he had much time to consider this further, though, a peculiar looking fellow set off a trap that formed a sharp snap in the air, drawing his attention. Protecting the borders was indeed something that they would need to do, given that during the last war Haku and his mate had thought they could come across Inferni in the dead of night without confrontation. They had killed two coyotes then, but given Gabriel the trump card he needed to end the thing. “They’ve crossed our borders before. Patrols will need to increase. As far as traps go, we’ll need to be organized about it.” A questioning glance darted to Anselm, knowing that he was far more talented in the world of mechanical odds and ends.

The rest were quiet, with only varied expressions between them. It surprised Gabriel to see his normally placid peace-loving brother looking as if all Mother Earth’s fury had sunk into his body. Two strangers both seemed perturbed, and remained quiet. What surprised him most, though, was Vieria’s appearance. He had not expected to see her outside of Kaena’s den, and his eyes darted to his mother, puzzled. Still, he supposed it was a good thing. She was proving herself to be more independent, suggesting to Gabriel that maybe his first assessment, and maybe the horrified way Rikka had describe the slavery to him, was blown tremendously out of proportion. While she was obviously uncomfortable being among so many others, he now realized that she would be able to serve him in an unexpected way.

“I want everyone to be clear,” his voice rose again, steam billowing from the coy-wolf’s dark muzzle. “Haku Soul does not believe in mercy. If you find yourself engaged in combat, do everything you can to survive. There is no guarantee you will all survive this, so I suggest you be prepared for anything.” Gabriel did not doubt that the madness in Haku had spread, and that he would sink to even deeper levels of depravity.
