For Conri <3 Hope that it's ok, it's a bit...choppy.

Night had fallen, the sky dark and starless tonight, the small twinkling lights hidden by the clouds that had hung lazily in the sky all day and had stubbornly refused to move even after the sun had set. The only light was a weak glow from the moon, which would appear every now and again through a break in the dense clouds and cast an eerie glow across the lands, causing the gnarled trees to throw long, twisted shadows across the ground. The night was too still, there was no wind to be felt, the air hung around the woods like a cloak, heavy and unable to dispel the layer of fog that hid the leaf-littered floor from view, causing wolves to get into trouble as they could not see their paws, and small holes or ditches left by animals burrowing, or the raised roots of the old trees.

Soran was pacing, wringing her hands together, entwining her long slender fingers and then releasing them again, occasionally twisting strands of her long curled mane around between finger and thumb as she walked. The jade eyed lady was concerned, after her encounter with little Naniko, who was not so little anymore, she had been troubled, her son, her eldest son had gone missing for sometime and now he was injured and her youngest babes were nowhere to be found. A mixture of panic and regret had overcome the ebony lady, she had abandoned them and now had perhaps lost her children forever, the pups had gone, where she did not know, perhaps never to return, she did not know if they were alive or dead even. And as for Conri, had she been here she could have helped, he would not have been injured as he had been, surely there would have been something she could have done to help. These thoughts had been swirling through her mind all day, while she had raced through the lands looking for her oldest boy, when her search had been fruitless, and now, when she had retreated just outside of the Clouded Tears borders to think. Soran was still panicking, still striding up and down as her mind rolled through countless possibilities of where her offspring might be, countless maps of Bleeding Souls and the surrounding lands went through her mind. None of them helped at this late hour though, even with her keen sense of smell it was too still a night for any breeze to bring her scents that could help her in the right direction, and even though her mental maps of the area were perhaps near perfect, Conri could be anywhere, as could Dhalia and Khaden. And so the lady settled for striding up and down, her canvas satchel discarded at the base of a nearby tree as she paced.
In the morning she would have to start a full search for her oldest boy, for at least she had an idea of where to start if she looked for him.

Had he bothered to continue all the way into the lands, it was likely that Naniko would have told him about seeing his mother. Unfortunately, Conri had not continued to her den. Instead, when he picked up the faintest scent that his mother had been through the area, he was off and away from Clouded Tears, searching for the latest trail. Some were stronger than others, thicker through some parts, but the red hybrid wished to conduct a thorough search for her, so he followed each carefully. The day passed by quickly because of this, moreso than he would have imagine, until finally night began to fall and he soon found himself in the areas of Cuore Di Anime. It was the last place for him to check, he was most certain, unless he started to barge into pack lands in search of her.

The canvas satchel was the first sign of her, laying slumped against the base of a tree. The young male approached slowly, crouching at the base of the tree and running his hand over the rough satchel. A smile came then and Conri immediately shrugged the old raggedy backpack off his shoulder, letting it come to settled next to the satchel. He saw her then, through a small break in the trees, walking. "Mom?" He called out to her, pressing his hand to the ground and using the single arm to help push himself back up to stand. The young male wandered forward a few feet, having lost sight of the darker woman, and cast his jade gaze out across the span of trees.

Soran was still pacing, her soft curls quickly becoming a mess as she ran her long fingers through them, the curls becoming fluffy twists as opposed to the usual neat ringlets. Her knuckles had begun to crack as she laced her fingers together, her worry causing her to put far much pressure on the joints, making them bend until they clicked. The small sounds went unnoticed though as the jade eyed lady was still deep in thought, as soon as the sun rose she would go back to Clouded Tears; she would go to Naniko's den and see if her boy had gone back there. If he was not then she would scour the lands, all of them if she had to, to find him, she had to find her eldest son, he had been the victim of something terrible and she had not been there for him, she might have been able to help, or even prevent the incident. She couldn't bear the thought that she had not been there for him, or Naniko or her smaller pups. The dark lady blamed herself, she had to find her boy and make things right, make sure that he forgave her, not that she expected forgiveness from him after what she had done.

She continued to pace, her dark feet leading her aimlessly in circles around the clearing where she had left her bag. On and on she walked, until a familiar scent caught in her nostrils, at first she just thought that she was being hopeful, her mind was playing tricks on her, making her think that her eldest boy was nearby after she had spent all day searching for him. It was simply her mind being wishful, but then his voice cut through the air like a scythe through a stem of wheat. Spinning quickly on the balls of her feet, Soran followed the sound, a relieved smile stretching across her dark lips as her jade eyes fell on her son, through some trees just a few paces ahead of her. Now sure that he was not an illusion of a troubled mind she almost lunged forwards, arriving in front of her red boy in a matter of moments.
"Conri." She breathed, her eyes shining with relief at seeing him and worry about him potentially hating her for abandoning him.

Some people would have hated her for running off twice now. Some would have ignored and resented her for doing so, but not Conri. The hybrid had always tried to be the good son, the one that was forgiving and understanding. Now, more than ever, Conri understood that horrible things happened in life, that perhaps his mother had a weak moment, they all did, and that was why she had disappeared each time. If anything at all, the only thing that Conri didn't like about it was the fact that she didn't stay and let him try and help her. She shouldn't have to face those sorts of things alone, those kinds of thoughts and feelings, and the young male felt that he understood enough to try and help her through it. She was his mother, after all, and he would do anything in his power to keep her safe and happy.

He saw her form then, there between the trees, and his eyes lit up with a fiery delight. He'd told Naniko only a few days before that he thought she might return, she always did. Everyone needed time to themselves, Conri knew, and he also knew that his mother wouldn't just leave and never return. "Momma." He cooed the words softly as she arrived in front of him, though his voice was more rugged than it had been so long ago. A breath of both relief and happiness came then, and he smiled. She seemed well. Without a moment to spare he moved to wrap her up in a hug, which was odd for him to do with only one arm, but he did so anyways. His head curled in, pressing it firmly against her neck, and the boy shuddered. No matter what he had been through, no matter the strength that he had found in himself during it all, he still needed the comfort of his mother.

Eep! Sorry for the wait, I've been really busy over the weekend.

For a moment, just a moment, when her red boy was standing in front of her, Soran was unsure whether or not she had been mistaken, perhaps he was just a mirage, a vision thrown up by the harsh desert landscape of her mind, filled only with dry thorns of worry and prickly shrubs of regret. For a second she wanted to reach out and touch him, just to make sure he was real, to feel his fur under her hand, to know that he was indeed stood before her. She did not know what to expect, he could hate her, after all most children would not forgive one abandonment, let alone two, especially not when she had meant to be looking after his smaller brother ands sister, a job which she had clearly failed to do, they were lost to the wilderness somewhere, maybe not even having survived long enough alone to wonder where their dark mother could have vanished to this time. The fae's jade eyes fell on her son's missing limb, the scarred tissue where his arm should be. But she did not have time to dwell on this before Conri threw his arm around her, for a long moment Soran just stood there in stunned silence, her own slender arms limp at her sides, unsure of what to do, how to greet this boy who had changed so much, grown so much without her. Then suddenly it hit her, despite the gruff voice, the missing limb, the way he had grown and matured all by himself, he was still her boy, this was still her little red son, the child she had loved instantly, the child she would always love. The dark lady found her arms again all at once, and threw them around her son, wrapping him in a rib-crushing embrace, finally loosening her grip but still holding him tightly as she hugged him. She breathed in his scent for a second, there it was, she had found her way back, home.

Slowly, the dark fae released her grip, her jade eyes shining with tears of gratitude and guilt that had welled up. She was so happy to see her red boy again, so glad to see that he was safe, so glad that her selfish actions had not finally pushed him away forever, that she still had one son to come home to. Oh, she had missed him terribly, though she had only just realised it now, she had missed talking to him, seeing him, she had lost so many chances to watch him grow and change and become the male he was today, for that she would be eternally sorry, she would suffer that guilt forever. After another long moment, the dark lady planted a kiss in her son's brow and took a step back, moving her hand to stroke his cheek affectionately, needing to keep the contact with him, lest he suddenly fade into the night, leaving the obsidian huntress alone.

"My boy..." Soran managed to choke out, wiping the single tear that had escaped from her eye away with her other trembling hand.

There were visions of horror and flashes of pain that often came to the surface of his mind. Conri did his best to drown those memories by pushing them back under but despite his best efforts they still affected him. They itched at the back of his mind, twisting his stomach into knots when he thought about him. He wanted to tell them of the things that he had been through, the things that his brother had done to him, in hopes that perhaps it would ease his own turmoil. It simply just felt like he needed to say, to get it all out. Conri wasn't that selfish though. He wouldn't make his loved one sit through his stories, to hear the things that had happened. He wouldn't make them hurt just because he had been hurt.

Tears threatened to fall from his eyes at the moment he touched her, wiping them away with soft nuzzle that he gave against her neck. For a brief moment he was left wondering if she was alright but before long he felt her arms around him, squeezing him, and the hybrid gave a content, almost purring sound at this. He was silent otherwise as they stood in their embrace, relishing in the warmth that he got from being held by his mother. Eventually her grip loosened and she moved back, touched him again, and Conri leaned into her head. "I was worried about you." He admitted quietly, sparkling jade eyes searching hers. "I was afraid Momma." He said then, seemingly out of nowhere, as he stared at her. Whether he meant his own situation or the thought of her not coming back wasn't clear.
