Angelique. Smile Geneva is in Optime form.

If my silence made you leave,
then that would be my worst mistake.

The days stretched on, a little emptier now that Addison was gone. There was a distinctive lack of sound, a lack of lightness to the morning. Geneva knew from the start that Addison would grow up, it was inevitable. Children would always be transformed and changed by time. But now that she was nearly grown, she no longer had to stay in Phoenix Valley. She had made the decision to move on from Phoenix Valley and from her adoptive family. Geneva had felt close to the girl, Jefferson's adoptive daughter. She had watched her learn and grow, and while she was sad to see the girl go, she was glad to see that she had become self sufficient and independent.

Months and months ago, when she had first joined Phoenix Valley, she had met Addison here at the Quarry. The pup had wandered out on to a ledge and the height had been dizzying. Swallowing her fears, the gray wolfess had gone out on to the ledge and brought her back to solid ground. She could still recall the taste of terror thick on her tongue. That day had been unforgettable for her - it had been the first time she had seen the chinks in Jefferson's armor, something beneath the cool exterior that was warm.

The woman found herself at the Quarry once more, walking through her memories. The woman was afraid of heights and did not often meander too close to the edge of anything. But today she crept, as carefully as she could, toward the edge of the limestone to look into the water below. And as she did, she lost her balancing, skidding forward and she tumbled into the water below. On her way down, her body scraped against the cliff face. The water closed over her head and she struggled to breathe, kicking her feet reflexively until she broke the surface and took in a burning mouthful of oxygen. Her arms burned and she shook the water out of her eyes as she made her way to the shore.

{{So sorry. Away post is now forfeit.}}

Angel was once again in that happy mood. She had finally refilled her bag of herbs and other such things she usually collected in the mornings to replenish her supply for services of first aid to her pack. She could see that the flames from the fires a year or so ago had soon begun to disappear and be as if it had never happened. She had come across Phoenix, who sounded like the alpha of her past and it was a good encounter as well. Coming down a path, her fellow fox friend was soon limping less and his cast was off. She had let him go on his own, but he had neglected to go since he liked being by her side. Occasionally he would go off and hunt for himself, but then he would return to her side and acted as a companion which she indeed enjoyed. Seeing the quarry ahead of her, Angel had begun to think whether or not this had been here. It had been some time for sure since she had been in these lands and so much has changed for sure. Hearing a sudden noise, Angel looked forward and saw a figure falling into the waters below.

It was Geneva.

Rushing forward she made her way down the rocks to see Geneva break the surface of the water. She had hit those rocks hard and Angel was worried. Reaching the shore she reached out for her shoulder, being careful at the same time in case of injuries, and gently pulled her out of the water. "Are you alright?" Angel asked. Well it was good for her to have filled her bag again! She looked over her body to make sure if there were no injuries, but only Geneva would know of any.

Geneva had a moment to reflect upon how grateful she was that she had tumbled into fresh water and not salt water as the air stung her scrapes. It took only the space of a few breaths before a semi-familiar form filled her vision. She had a moment to wonder who the hell had come to her rescue before she was pulled gently to the shore. The fall had somewhat disoriented her, and so she let herself remain passive as she was guided from the water. She had taken a considerable tumble, and she was still somewhat bemused as she blinked water from her lime colored eyes.

Recognition dawned on her features as she realized who was there with her. "Angelique," she murmured as she shook her head, water droplets shimmering in the air. She curled her hands around her elbows, crossing her arms and hissing in pain as she did so. When she raised her fingers, they came away with a thin layer of blood. The sub-leader turned her head to study her arms. Her voice was calm when she spoke, although she was a bit dazed still.

"I think they're superficial," she said, raising her arms to show Angel what she was talking about. "I don't think I hit my head or broke anything. I can move okay," she said. Her arms ached dully and her body ached from the impact of hitting the water. But pain did not add a bright edge to her vision. It could have been far worse.

Seeing the blood that had been put onto her hands Angel took a closer look to her arms. They were hit pretty badly from skimming on the rocks possibly. Setting her bag down she began to go through her supplies to find the necessary items needed for the job. "Well, it looks like you rubbed them badly on the rocks. They will probably burn for the next couple of days, but I have a remedy for that as they heal." And with that Angel found some thin linen cloth and dark green star shaped leaves. "This is what I call numb weed. It helps with the pain and the healing. It is much like the humans Neosporin. Ill put a few red berries on it as well to help with the odor. Numbweed isn't the most prettiest smelling plant on the earth." Angel tried to toss a joke out there to help with the current mood.

As she began to crush the numbweed in the wooden bowl she had, she tossed in seven berries and mashed them together. Once done, she smiled and held the bowl out partially. "This might sting, but I will need to spread it onto your wounds. I'll wipe it off with a gauze pad first to make sure that the bleeding has stopped before doing so of course. Afterwards, it should only take a minuet or two to stop the pain." Angel smiled as her little fox friend came rumbling down the rocks in a ball of fluff. Looking in worry, Angel had to chuckle as he popped out of a small hole with his tongue lolled out as if to say "Wanna do that again with me?".

"Neosporin?" Geneva spoke faintly. She blinked, trying to comprehend the meaning of the word. It had a foreign sound, and did not quite make sense to her. The sub-leader concluded that neosporin was a word that she had never heard before. Angelique had said it was a human thing, which made sense. Although the gray furred wolfess was well-read and had spent her youth in an abandoned human city, she had concerned herself mostly with the folklore and fiction of human kind. The realities they had left behind, their broken legacies of concrete and glass, revealed more than enough about them to Geneva. If she wanted to know more about them, she would look into their hearts and souls, in the stories they had left behind.

It was easier now for the sub-leader to collect her thoughts. The shock of her fall was beginning to wear off, and she had an inkling that she felt a little cold below the sting of her wounds. She shivered, her eyes moving to look at the place from where she had fallen. The woman was deathly afraid of heights, but she had not had much time to think about her fear when she had tumbled into the water. As the air had rushed up to whip her face, there hadn't been a thought in her head. She had only thought that she did not want to hit the ground hard. She was thankful that she had not been hurt badly, and she would stay away from high places for a good long while.

Geneva turned her attention back to Angel's actions. The woman had never really been treated with medicinal herbs or concoction. But she was not distrustful of those healing properties. Although she herself lacked such knowledge, her friend and former leader Naniko was also a healer. Nodding, she held out her arms for her pack mate. "Pain is a small price to pay," she said. "Thank you."

"You have no need to thank me, but is greatly appreciated! You are a member of this wonderful pack and I treat thee as if you were my own sibling! I do this with great honor."

Angel smiled and began to spread the medicine on her arm. "It might sting a little, just a foreboding." Angel warned as she then wrapped one arm in the linen and then began to spread the concoction on the other. She made sure it was thin enough so that it would not squish through the linen or make it too wet, and then she made the linen firm enough that it would not come off, and would hold the medicine in place. Once that was done on both arms, she made sure that they were held in place by two silver clasps and then leaned back. "There! All done. Now, this helps me when I get injured and begin to feel cold from shock and in this weather this water is cold, I use a little bit of whiskey to warm myself up. I only drink a little. The alcohol content is strong enough that it warms your body without making you intoxicated. Of course, I will leave that decision up for you to make. And with the rest of this, you will need to apply it once or twice more to make sure that it heals fully. A nice thin layer and then wrap the linen two times minimum around the arms and the wounds should heal nicely on their own. I am glad to say that the wounds were minimum at the most. Just some bad scrapings tis all." Angel smiled as she admired her own work. She had worked on herself with injuries and her little foxen friend, who she had deemed Methil only days ago, but never on one of her own pack mates and she was quite impressed with the work. Especially since it was so hard to do it on ones self!

Angelique hadn't lied when she said that the medicinal spread would sting. As she held out her arms to her pack mate and the foreign substance made contact with her raw, angry scrapes, she felt the strangely hot and cold sensation of the chemicals upon her skin. She wrinkled her nose at the feeling and exhaled a bit noisily, but did not jerk away from Angel. She knew that it was necessary, and it did not hurt nearly as much as getting injured had hurt her. The feeling was tolerable, although strange to say the least. Her lime green eyes followed Angel's motions with curiosity. She was certain that healing had to be a learned art, and wondered where Angelique had learned. But she would ask another time.

She eyed the proffered whiskey with some humor in her eyes, letting her arms fall to her side as she bent them experimentally. She wanted to make certain that she would not unravel the linen dressing. When it held fast, she let her arms relax. "I have some experience with whiskey," she said with the edge of a laugh in her voice. When she had first arrived in these lands, she had had a crash course in the effects of alcohol. She still enjoyed the occasional drink, although she largely avoided alcoholic beverages unless she felt like she needed to unwind.

"Good then! So if you ever feel cold, and I expect you might from possible shock, take a swig as necessary to keep your body warm. From the cold waters and shock you will go into hypothermia even if you are not even in the water itself." Angel smiled as she held out the leather bound flask which was in the shape of a curved tear drop with a cap at the top where the whiskey would come out.

"So those arms feeling okay?" Angel asked as she watched Geneva test them out some on her own. It was good to see the linen did not unravel and even if it tried to, she would quickly place it back on and just simply tighten the fasteners. Angel was glad that she was not more hurt than she was otherwise it would take more concentration and perhaps a needle and thread or two to make sure it healed correctly.

Geneva accepted the pro-offered flask. She took it delicately between her hands, still hesitant to bend her elbows. But after a moment, she decided she could deal with a little bit of pain. She would have to deal with it anyway. Despite the spill she had taken, her responsibilities would still be there. She would have to learn to work around the pain until such a time when she was completely healed. She took a swig of the whiskey. It burned a little, going down her throat like fire, compared to how cold she felt. But when that burning reached her stomach, she felt warmth stretch out in its wake all throughout her body.

She handed the flask back to Angelique, using the back of her other hand to wipe her mouth. She winced a little when the bandages rubbed over her raw scrapes. The pain wasn't terrible or intense, but it was still sharp in some places. "I think that this will do just fine," Geneva said, smiling and the creases in her brow smoothing out. "It does hurt a little, but I suspect that I would be in a great deal more pain, if it hadn't been for you."

The Savant moved her arms experimentally, folding her arms over her chest and then stretching them up, straining her fingers as though she was trying to touch the sky above them. She winced a little when she brought them down, but smiled reassuringly. She ached a bit, but she would probably feel better if she went inside and rested a while. "I think I just need to rest a bit, and I will be okay."

Angel nodded and smiled as she listened to her words. "Alright then! If you like, I can help you back to your cabin and such? Maybe make you some nice warm soup? It might help with the shock as well. Rest would be a good idea, if only for a night." Angel smiled as she placed her hands under her right arm to help her up. That way she could also check for unknown leg injuries if there were any. Geneva had taken quite the tumble!

Her little foxen friend seemed to bark some in excitement like they were going somewhere new. He bounded around and wagged is fuzzy tail happy to see both of them finally moving! He hated sitting for so long as he did not doing anything fun. Of course he was still in the pup years and wouldn't grow out of it till one year of age or so, but that never meant he couldn't act this way! It was just too much fun!

Geneva shook her head, but a smile remained on her face. Angelique's kind offer to escort her to her home was refused gently by the gray furred sub-leader. She saw that her packmate was willing to go above and beyond the call of duty to help her. It warmed the woman's heart, but she did not require that much aid. She was capable of making her own way to the ranch. Although she wanted very badly to go there and just rest, she surmised that there was a lot more that she had to accomplish around the territory.

"There are some things that I must see to around Phoenix Valley," Geneva explained. The cold was wearing off now, and although she felt quite tired and sore, she did not feel horrible. "I will rest and take it easy for a while," Geneva promised, in case Angelique was worried about her getting hurt again. She would be avoiding heights for a while yet. She did not like heights and hated to fall, but there was no reason for her to dwell on that fear.

Angel smiled as she made sure Geneva could rise and walk on her own. It was then she allowed the sub-leader to do as she wished. "Well I am never more than a howl away, so if you ever need me do let me know!" Angel smiled as she gave a curt nod. Bounding down the rocks was her foxen friend and he plopped down on his bum looking up at the two wolves with a look of sheer enjoyment of his recent tumble. It was if he was saying "Can I do it again?" to the both of them at that moment. Picking him up Angel began to make her way up the rocks all the while calling out sharp spots for Geneva so she would not trip on them going up. "I wish you good day then Geneva and hope you heal well and feel better! If you no longer have a need of me, I shall take my leave to see if anyone else is in need of my first aid skills."
