Just as the rabbits hit the table his mate had turned to face him. She moved with a fluid motion over to him, instinctively knowing where he was standing. He had once marveled at her ability to move throughout her familiar places, but now he stopped trying to figure out how she memorized each thing and floor board and just allowed the little mystery to linger around her. He wrapped his arms around her slender frame, a smile on his face and the things that had been bothering him slipped away for a brief wondrous moment. “They practically fell in my lap.” he responded with warmth in his tone. The warming weather had brought the small mammals out of their hiding places and with the lack of deep snows their feeding was eased and thus their population began to grow as steadily as the rising temperature. A meal was something Heath could appreciate, after the long day he had spent on the borders.

Her question was left unanswered, for the male thought back to the meeting that had led up to this moment. Eyes looked down at the female’s face, and he could not mistake the curiosity that was set in her features and pale pools. There was no doubt that she could smell the stench of the other male on his coat. A stranger always lingered even if he was not wanted. He felt his form tense slightly as he thought of his father. It was never an easy subject for Heath to think or speak of. ”I greeted a visitor at the borders today. “ He explained, a deep breath taken at the end of the sentence. He held his beloved for a brief moment, savoring the feel of her soft fur against his rough hand. “It was my father.” He spoke further, his voice calmer then before.
