For Alli-kins ^_^

It had been a wonderful day, the warmest in months. A person who had been living in the South most of their life might not have considered the high forties to be warm, but for Ruri who had just spent her first winter in the North today had been warm. Her cashmere tunic was hanging in the closet, not on her form, for today she had enjoyed the pleasure of walking around outdoors feeling the pleasant, cool air touching every part of her body which until now had needed to be shielded from freezing temperatures. She had just returned home, and she was walking through her cabin running her fingers through her long, silvery locks, carefully removing any knots that might have formed as it blew in the wind. Upon reaching the room designated as the kitchen, where the food was normally stored, the blind collie woman had successfully fixed her hair, returning it to its appropriate position, cascading down her back like a silvery waterfall. Ivory-furred hands felt around inside the small, walk-in pantry in the back of the tiny kitchen, feeling around for any scraps of meat that might have been left. Unfortunately there was nothing but a few dusty spice jars, and a few small piles of dried herbs. The late Svara Thames, who had previously shared the cabin with the Dauphine had left these behind. The harsh woman had, in the short time that Ruri knew her, attempted to cook several times with limited success. As such, most of the spices in the little jars were common, likely scavenged from some dusty spice rack in Lunenburg. Salt, ground black pepper, basil, oregano, even rosemary were the ones that Ruri recognized. During her early life, the delicate girl had learned to cook. However, the extent of her skills basically consisted in how to prepare meat in a more savory form than simply raw. She was never able to do so alone, for working over an open flame was, as one might imagine, somewhat dangerous for her. She could smell when the meat was cooked, which seasonings would taste best, and other, non-visual aspects of cooking, but the actual act of rotating the meat over the flames had always been one that needed to be done by someone else.

It was late in the day, and the lautari was expecting her mate to return home at any moment. It had been her initial plan to prepare something for the both of them to cook and eat together, but the present lack of the main ingredient had altogether derailed her idea. However, she still continued to investigate the spices in the pantry, taking each jar, unscrewing it and testing the scent of each of them. Even if they had no food now, she wanted to plan out how she would prepare something next time, so that when she had something to prepare she would be ready.

thanks for starting :3 <3

Such a day was one that left Heath with mixed feelings. Emotions that brought him back to a time before he had joined Cour des Miracles, a time before he had met so many that had changed his life. The silver coated female that had so generously chosen him as a mate, before the dark furred fey that had beaten him into some sort of normal sense. The male he had seen had brought him back to when he knew where his brother was, where his sister resided. He had been so angry then, pushing to show his strength at every turn. His father brought that out of him, the memories were not fresh but they weren't dead and forgotten either. The horses were put to bed, sort to speak. Lumiere had yet to settle when he left, still riled after meeting the Phoenix Valley alpha. The mare had not liked his smell, or the sight of him, or the deep unsettled feeling that Heath had held that filtered so easily into the mare that was connected to him. It was not the only thing unsettling the male, news of an attack a while back, (a month perhaps) made the male even more edgy.

But the day was done, and the warm weather had brought him good fortune and his carried the two dead hares in one hand and his hat in the other. Nearing the cabin he could smell the collie dog that resided inside. No one else could be noticed, and Heath accounted that for her lack of visitors (good, or heaven forbid bad). He wished to see her, for the sight of her well being and her smile would settle his nerves. She brought everything back to light, and her sent and the sound of the chiming bells that surrounded their home made him step quickly up the stairs to the door. He opened it, silently, though knowing that she heard him none the less. A smile was worn as he entered their home, and Heath walked towards the kitchen area. He placed the hat on a nearby table, honey colored eyes searching for the sight of her. She stood with her back to him, busy with something. The small orange cat rubbed up against his leg in greeting, no doubt curious about the things that hung in his hand.

He hated to come home in such a worried state, and though her presence always soothed him Heath was still slightly on edge as he rested the catch on the table.
"How does rabbit sound?" He wondered with a soft tone.

Ruri :] 1

The faint sound of the front door opening, followed by familiar footsteps on the wood floor immediately aroused the merle woman from her state of investigation. With several of the spice jars arrayed neatly in the forward section of the pantry, Ruri turned quickly to walk over and embrace her beloved. "Rabbit sounds wonderful. In fact, you can even help me cook it. I had wanted to get dinner started before you got home, but I forgot we didn't have anything. How perfectly fantastic it is that you brought some home," she replied playfully, wrapping her arms around the Baron's muscular frame. She felt Soleil brushing up against her leg, making her smile at the affectionate gesture.

"How was your day, darling?" she inquired, using one of the terms of endearment she found herself using more and more as she settled into mated life. Leaning into him, the petite woman rested her head on his shoulder, sensitive nose taking in his scent, not to mention the scents of those he had come into contact with during the day. The majority of them she recognized as the horses he cared for, but one was that of an unfamiliar luperci. In fact, Ruri could faintly detect a similar scent to one she had smelled earlier. It had belonged to Geneva Stockholm of Phoenix Valley. This scent possessed just a hint of that scent, and it took but a moment for Ruri to realize that Heath must have come into contact with a visitor from the Valley pack. Half-folded ears perked in interest, her head slowly lifting from it's position as she focused her milky blue eyes towards her mate's face. Surely the black handed coy-wolf would notice her curiosity, for it was written on her face plainly. Not knowing things of the visual realm it was close to impossible for the Lautari to hide her emotions. Heath would of course know that she could smell the scent on him, and that she was eager for an explanation if he wished to offer one. She would not press him for it if she determined that he wished to leave out that part of his day, but as Dauphine, any visitors to the pack were of interest to her.

Just as the rabbits hit the table his mate had turned to face him. She moved with a fluid motion over to him, instinctively knowing where he was standing. He had once marveled at her ability to move throughout her familiar places, but now he stopped trying to figure out how she memorized each thing and floor board and just allowed the little mystery to linger around her. He wrapped his arms around her slender frame, a smile on his face and the things that had been bothering him slipped away for a brief wondrous moment. “They practically fell in my lap.” he responded with warmth in his tone. The warming weather had brought the small mammals out of their hiding places and with the lack of deep snows their feeding was eased and thus their population began to grow as steadily as the rising temperature. A meal was something Heath could appreciate, after the long day he had spent on the borders.

Her question was left unanswered, for the male thought back to the meeting that had led up to this moment. Eyes looked down at the female’s face, and he could not mistake the curiosity that was set in her features and pale pools. There was no doubt that she could smell the stench of the other male on his coat. A stranger always lingered even if he was not wanted. He felt his form tense slightly as he thought of his father. It was never an easy subject for Heath to think or speak of. ”I greeted a visitor at the borders today. “ He explained, a deep breath taken at the end of the sentence. He held his beloved for a brief moment, savoring the feel of her soft fur against his rough hand. “It was my father.” He spoke further, his voice calmer then before.

Ruri :] 1

The coy-wolf's joke that his quarry had simply fallen in his lap elicited an amused laugh from the blue merle collie. She smiled so widely that her milky blue eyes closed for a moment to accomodate her facial expression, "I would not be surprised if every animal you hunted fell unconscious at the mere notion that you might be after them," she replied in a similarly sarcastic fashion. The blind lautari was not very skilled in the realm of sarcasm and wit, but there were occasions such as this where she could play along with if not add something to the amusing words someone had already said.

However, her joking was not meant to last long as the subject turned to who precisely had visited the pack that day, who Heath had seen. The words trickled forth from the lips of her mate with relative smoothness, like a rivulet of water escaping the confines of a dam meant to keep a raging torrent of emotions from overwhelming all bystanders. Heath's father had been the visitor. The fragile optime felt her hand rise to close her dropped jaw as she subconsciously tried to shake herself free of her surprise. It was not difficult for her to imagine what Heath must have gone through earlier, having to greet one of the people he disliked the most in the entirety of the world's population. Ruri knew how she would have felt if her mother had suddenly come to the borders and Ruri had been the unlucky pack leader to greet her. It was likely that a rarely seen side of the kind, innocent collie would have surfaced.

It took only seconds for Ruri to regain her composure and hug her mate even more tightly. "Are you alright? What did he want?" she questioned, both worried for her mate and concerned as to what could have possibly brought that man to their borders. She should have recognized just how distressed Heath was over this. How could she have let herself be so...blind?

Smile

He loved to make her laugh, and looked down at her face with a chuckle of his own. Her sarcasm was amusing, for it never sounded quiet right coming from her voice and mouth, but the joke was a good one, and Heath laughed lightly. It brought him the same sort of ease that her body against his did. He had never truly had a home to return to until moving into her cabin, it was a nice feeling, as was knowing that she would be here for him always. “You would be right.” He teased, wanting this feeling to last forever and wishing away the tension that filled his form.

But it did not, and she soon wore a concerned face as she listened to his explanation. He blamed his father for all of this, for bringing him home in such a state and giving it to his mate. Her felt her arms tighten around him, and Heath was glad once more that she had not come across the two males at the borders and that she was safe and sound in their home. The last thing that he ever wanted was for them to meet, for he trusted the Valley leader as much as he did a wild eyed mustang. Calm and collected they could appear in body, but their mind would always have the wild side that would surely kill a handler that did not see it.

The male touched her shoulder, petting it lightly. ”I’m okay.” He responded, though part of it felt untrue. But he did not want to share that hate with her, nor show that side himself that she had quelled within him many months ago. “He claimed that he wanted to know more about the pack, he hadn’t ever been here.” which he thought odd, but anything that the tattered male spoke would be thoughts as a lie in Heath’s ears. “Wanted to know if we were allies to Phoenix Valley. I told him I wasn’t the one to speak to about that.” He could taste the bitterness on his tongue and tried to calm it the best he could.

Heath's hand stroking her shoulder did much to reassure her that he was alright, at least as much as could be expected. She knew his horrid past with his father and understood that reliving those memories was never an enjoyable experience. The ivory and silver female was immediately intent on distracting Heath from the day's events. Of course, she would have to finish discussing what his father had wanted or the change in subject would seem awkward. "Well, that's only natural that he would come to visit, why just the other day I had another member of Phoenix Valley come to the borders to investigate. Her name was Geneva Stockholm, a very nice woman. We both agreed to exchange any information we had about the war, but hopefully she won't send your father here to deliver any of that information. If I had known that he was a part of that pack, I would have made a special request on your behalf. I'm sorry, Heath," she apologized, milky blue eyes focused upwards towards his face to express her sincerity.

Now that she had seemingly ended the discussion regarding Heath's father, the Border collie immediately turned to the topic of dinner. "Well, what do you say we forget all of this pack business and work on getting those rabbits cooked? I was getting a few spices ready when you came home, so why don't I get those while you start skinning and cleaning them. You can save the fur for Soleil, I think he likes to play with it," she replied, loosening her embrace to reach down and pet the orange kitten rubbing against their legs.

The perceptive, young feline had detected the distress of his two owners and had undertaken the task of trying to distract them from their problems by meowing and rubbing against their legs. If they focused on him surely they would feel better. Bright green eyes looked back and forth from Heath to Ruri, waiting to see which of them would acknowledge him first. Long bushy tail was carried high above his form as he passed under Ruri's outstretched hand, helping his blind keeper to achieve her goal of petting him.

After having petted the young Maine Coon, the slender lautari turned back towards the pantry, delicate hands reaching through the door to grab the few spice jars she had left on the forward shelves. With her collection of spices in hand, Ruri set about choosing the right combination to best flavor the two rabbits. After all, too little or too much of the right spices could ruin a perfectly good rabbit. Fortunately for the two of them Ruri's keen sense of smell made picking the right spices relatively easy, not that she had many to choose from anyway.

If another beast spoke the words she did, Heath would have been unable to listen to them. He would have taken it as an excuse to the crimes that his father had committed them, all of them. An excuse for wandering around his home was giving him an out for everything. Forgiveness for one was forgiveness for all of it. Heath could not allow an inch of peace for the Valley leader, for such a thing could grow. The male wouldn’t live with the notion that his back had been turned his back on his siblings and actually had a relationship with the wolf that had killed their mother, only after taking her dignity. But, when she spoke them Heath could let the anger leech from his mind, though he still could not say that his presence was welcomed. And anyone below him was not to be trusted as well, not immediately.

He was happy to move away from the relentless thoughts of his father, ready to put it away and forget once again. Heath smiled at her, giving her a little squeeze before letting her go and move back to the kitchen cupboards. ”Sounds good, I’m hungry” he said with the playfulness back in his voice. Just as she brought him out of a red haze she lifted him up into a place that felt as normal and happy, as he would ever be. Heath moved to the table, taking the knife he carried in his pocket and setting it down by the rabbits as he splayed them out and then began to cut the skin off their backs.

The cat took to his ankles, reaching up against his legs at the smell of the open flesh. Gold eyes looked at the collie fey then cut one of the rabbits hind paws off to dangle in front of the kitten, teasing him. “I hope things were better here…” He asked before throwing the little paw out for the fluffy cat to chase. Though he had not thought that he and the kitten would become as close as it and Ruri, the two boys had made a certain bond and enjoyed each others company more then he ever thought they might.

Ruri :] 1

Milky blue eyes searched back and forth in front of her as sensitive hands felt around for the single bowl that was in the house. When Svara had called the cabin home she had kept the bowl for her own cooking attempts and Ruri had yet to ever really use it. Ivory furred hands reached in and out of cupboards feeling around before she found the bowl. Pulling it out and setting it on the counter, the blue merle border collie reached for the first spice jar. First came the crushed, dried rosemary. With her second hand held out flat, Ruri poured some of the dried herb into her hand gradually measuring out the right amount for her spice rub. For two rabbits she guessed she wouldn't need a whole lot of rosemary. After all, it was only meant to add a bit of flavor to the meat. Then came the salt and pepper which made up most of the mixture along with two other kinds of herbs which Ruri could not quite recognize. However, the two smelled and tasted good to the blind woman so she chose to add them to the bowl. "Ready when you are. I just need you to help me rub this all over the rabbits." she replied, picking up the bowl and carefully carrying it to the table. She took just the required number of steps to get to the table remembering the location of the table top so as to not drop the bowl. Taking a seat in a chair next to her mate, she held her hand out for Heath to take so that he could help her out. She mostly just needed him to hand her the rabbits so that she could rub the spices over them.

Soleil was completely enthralled with the rabbit foot that Heath had been dangling over the edge of the table for him to play with. When the coy-wolf had thrown it for him to chase, the young, orange tabby had raced off to catch his quarry. Once satisfied that he had killed it, the young Maine Coon seized the rabbits foot in his mouth and pranced back into the kitchen.

Heath's inquiry about her day made Ruri smile and wag her tail. She hadn't done anything really of note, but she liked telling him about it just the same. "Well, I made my usual rounds around the pack lands. Soleil came with me. I didn't really run into anyone, which was a bit odd. After that I came home and took a nap. Soleil slept next to me on the couch. Then when I woke up I was getting ready to try and make dinner when you came home." She replied, as she prepared the food.

their like a little old couple that had been married for years and super cute!

He made minimal noise skinning the two hares, and made it quick and clean work after giving the small cat the furred back paw. Soon enough they were laying on the old weathered wood table without and piece of fur on them. The male set the knife aside as Ruri approached with the bowl of herbs and spices. The mixture hit his nose and the male looked hungrily at the unprepared meat. It was not often that they made a meal, and with this much preparation. The blind female seemed confident about the mixture, and Heath wondered in silence where she earned how to smell exactly what would taste good. When she extended her hand the male gave her the first of the hares to dress.

As she spoke of her day Heath watched her face, her head never seemed to lean down, obviously doing everything by touch alone. Her gentle movements were slow and meaningful, so much so that not a single fleck of spice seemed to be spread out on the table. Heath was always glad for simple days that gave nothing but a single pleasurable feeling of accomplishment. He pictured the two laying on the couch, cat-napping. They were quite a pair, and he was glad that they had found the little cat for her to have as a companion while he was off being a Marshal and such. The cat ran between his legs, paw in mouth and making small feline growling sounds as the canines were busy. He was still not a full grow cat, but he was no longer the little kitten that they had found that one day in the barn. He was growing large, larger then a normal tabby. And yet Heath still thought of him as their kitten.

“I wonder where everyone was today.” He thought aloud, and then remembered something that he had wished to speak to her about. “I saw Haven the other day, he spoke of a new pack member, a female that lives with him. Princess. Have you met her? “ Ruri had a knack of knowing those that he did not. Heath took the one hare that was ready to be cooked and went to the fireplace, the spit to roast any meats propped beside it, and poked the half dead embers into a new life.

Sorry for the delay, been busy with the holiday this weekend.

WC:500+

First came one hare, which Ruri gently dabbed all over with spices. Then she traded her mate for the other unfinished one, handing him the one that was prepped for cooking. "I'm not sure, it certainly was weird not to run into anyone. No big deal though, I'm sure they were all just off doing something," she replied as she continued to rub the second of the two hares. Milky blue eyes were focused in the direction of Heath's voice, ears tuned to his every word as he turned and went into the living room to likely start cooking the hare. The Marshall mentioned that he had visited their mutual friend, the Knight, Haven, and he had talked with him about one of the pack's newest members, Princess Chance. With the second hare completely prepared Ruri slowly got up, leaving the mixing bowl on the counter to be cleaned later. "Yes, I've met Princess. She seems like a very nice girl for Haven. I really hope that they stay together. Haven deserves to have someone to love," she replied, coming in and standing next to her mate, spice-rubbed hare in hand as Heath stoked the fire back to life.

Soleil had slowly followed his two owners into the living room, swatting and batting his rabbit foot around the floor, bushy tail swishing back and forth in excitement as he practiced his hunting skills. There was no doubt the large tabby kitten would be a great mouser one day. He had much growing left to do, and there would likely come a day that he would be almost half of Ruri's weight in lupus form, not to mention half-her size. For a cat that would be considered fairly large.

"A few days ago I met one of the leaders of Crimson Dreams, a woman named Savina Marino. She was coming to make sure that Princess had made the transition smoothly. She's a very nice person. She's expecting pups, and I invited her to come back for a visit with them to play at the beach. I'm really excited. She said she'd bring her new pups and her adult children as well. I figured we'd make a big play-date out of it," her main motive for having invited Savina and her family for the fun day had been purely for just that, fun. However, it also occurred to the Dauphine that the day would also be a good time to encourage friendly pack relations with Crimson Dreams. "I told Savina that I would teach her pups some of my favorite games. Do you think you could help me set some of them up when the time comes? I had to set one of them up for Jontae when she used to live here, and it was easier because it was just in the house. However, setting it up outside requires a lot of work and as it involves hiding things it's nice to have someone who can see setting things up. Places that are hard for me to find things in might be easy for someone who could see," she explained, her nose sniffing the hare as it Heath turned it over the fire on the spit. It had a few minutes to go before it was ready and then they could cook the second one.

no worries at all! I hope it was a good weekend :3

It was normal for Heath to go out and not be found by another pack member. But of course he knew where to go in order to avoid them. It was not his nature to slip into a crowd or search for others simply for the sake of company. No, Heath had been a loner too long and the ways had branded him. If his mood called for company, then he would welcome it, but it was only on a rare occasion that Heath sought another creature out and he usually have business to attend to or it had been some time since he had seen them. For Ruri Heath had noticed that she was drawn to others, her bright and welcoming demeanor was a beacon for souls to be guided to, her merriment gleefully contagious. So when she was alone for the entire day it was certainly odd. And thus Heath was not surprised at all that she had met Princess and was glad for it. He had yet to meet the female and if she was the one to hold his good friends heart then Heath wanted to make sure that she was as honest a wolf as Haven. As Heath turned the hare he spoke, "He truly does. He's one of the best wolves I've known." Heath spoke with honesty. His worked the other hare on the spit, fiddling with it as he tried to get it on correctly.

At her next words Heath almost dropped the uncooked hare into the flames. He caught the rare meat, holding it steady along with the spit as she spoke of the Crimson leader. Savina, Heath though as he replayed the horrific fight that he and the woman had engaged in. It felt like so long ago, a different lifetime where he was a different canine. Heath thought very differently about that episode as well, thinking about it deeply Heath let the words fill his ears as his mate continued to speak. Right before his acceptance into the Cours lands Heath had encountered two males, both Dreamers and both spineless in Heath's immature honey eyes. And after he had fought both their leader had come to stand against him, and won. He was unsure how to explain it, his past was not dark in the sense that it was pitch black, but he had a few shadowed memories he did not think Ruri would enjoy hearing.

"Of course I will." He said as she asked about he setting up the games for Savina (Heath had never known her name until now) and her pups. Heath cleared his throat, not sure of entirely how to express the past situation between he and the female. Maybe it wouldn't come up, or that she would forget him if she saw him. But avoiding it did not solve any problems. "I think that I have met her before, dark pelted no?" Heath asked, wishing that this would be another female and not the one he thought of, alas it was a feeble attempt. "Unfortunately, I had not been on my best behavior." He said with a low tone, both rabbits not turning in unison over the fire.

Ruri :] 1

Ruri could not help but agree with Heath as he spoke of Haven. "Yes, he's one of the nicest people I've met as well. It's funny really, the three of us all share the fact that we've had trouble with one of our parents. It's an interesting coincidence," she replied, her face turned towards the fireplace, nostrils flaring occasionally to take in the scent of the hares turning over the flames. They would be ready soon, and she could not wait to eat.

Her mate's sudden movement, in which she guessed he had almost dropped one of the hares judging by the sound, at the mention of her visit with Savina made the Dauphine very curious indeed. The smiled at his agreement to help her set up the game when the time came for Savina's visit but her face soon changed to a concerned, worried look. She knew Heath had been upset by her dealings with Phoenix Valley, and his stunned reaction seemed to indicate a similar level of stress over the name of the Commander of Crimson Dreams. His inquiry as to the look of Savina's pelt really threw Ruri off. Heath rarely, if ever, asked her such questions because he knew she was blind. Something was really unnerving him over the subject, or so it seemed to the sensitive girl. "I-I wouldn't know, I can't distinguish colors. She spoke with an accent though, and said she was of...Italian descent. Why Heath? Is something wrong?" her nightingale's voice held genuine concern for her mate. She wondered if she had inadvertantly placed Heath in another awkward position. His next revelation answered her question partially. Ruri knew Heath had done things he wasn't proud of in his past, but she knew he wasn't that way anymore...that he had changed. She knew Heath's past was just that, the past and she refused to let it affect her feelings for him because he wouldn't do those things again. However, if he had had a problem with Savina, she didn't want to force him into a situation that might be uncomfortable for him. That wasn't what mates did to each other, because they loved each other.

lol ohhh Heath...

Ever since Heath had come to know Haven he had known that the organ hued male was one for commitment and solidarity. Heath had actually tried to convince him otherwise, though there was nothing that the younger Heath could have said to the adolescent Haven that would change him. The coy-wolf even felt that Haven had been the one to change him. The Knight deserved everything that he fought to protect in the Cours lands.

What he said had not been thought through and it was now obvious and out in the open that he was occupied by the memories of old. There was a silence that lingered after he spoke, and his yellow eyes moving upwards sheepishly towards her face. He could hardly believe that things that had been come from his voice. And as her voice faltered Heath felt his heart sink. His stomach twisted, and the male found it hard to keep his eyes on her. "I know... I'm sorry." He spoke softly but with a certain honesty, and of course his voice was full on the regret he felt. He shouldn't have said that, he should have been more considerate, he shouldn't have allowed his thoughts to drift so far that they no longer touched the realm of the present.

Eyes looked to the cooking meat, considering the question that she had asked and now knowing that it was indeed the accented female that had found him on the borders of Crimson Dreams. "I..." He faltered in his speech, knowing that he now needed to explain fully what was running through his mind. The day was one that had brought many things from his past back into the spotlight, and as he couldn't just run from his father Heath couldn't leave Ruri without an explanation. "I had threatened two of their members, attacked one. She found me lingered around the pack, and chased me out. But, of course I wouldn't just leave." Heath confessed, hating that he had such a thing to tell her. "She taught me a lot." He said, his voice still defeated and ashamed.

Sorry for the delay, been busy. But I'm back on schedule now ^_^

Ruri listened quietly as Heath apologized, smiling reassuringly as he did so. She had not been offended by his earlier inquiry, only surprised. It was not in her nature to concern herself with getting upset over such small things. There was the much more important matter of Heath's distress to deal with. She could tell that the meat was almost done, for it smelled just so, but there was still time to talk for a moment before needing to take the hares of the fire.

Silver and ivory femme listened quietly as Heath explained his past history with Savina and Crimson Dreams. It did not surprise her that Heath had gotten in a fight with the Commander, for that was who he used to be a fighter. She could feel it every time she felt his hands, or touched his face, or any other part of his body for that matter. One did not gain scars without being a fighter. Much to her relief, Heath was a changed man concerned with his love for her, his horses, and his pack just as she was for him and her duties. "I understand why you're worried, then. I don't want you to worry, though, okay? When I was talking with Savina she seemed very understanding. She knows how much I love you, because I talked about you, though I don't think I used your name now that you mention it. It just came up when she asked if I had any pups of my own. I told her we were going to wait for awhile," she paused for a second, gathering her thoughts and getting back to her original train of thought, "Anyway, what I'm saying is that when you meet her again we can both explain to her that you are not like you used to be. She'll understand, I know it. So...don't you worry, okay?" she assured her mate, leaning over to him and stroking his shoulder.

The hares were now quite finished, so the Dauphine quickly realized an opportunity to change the subject and turn the conversation to more pleasant things. She was becoming more skilled at this, "The meat's done, I think. We'll have to let them cool for a second, but it shouldn't be too long before we can eat them," she explained, kneeling down to sniff at the hares and confirm her assessment.

While the entire conversation had been going on, Soleil had been busying himself by swatting his rabbit foot all around the living room. The longhaired kitten was making great efforts to practice his pouncing and other hunting skills by batting the furry limb around the couch and any other obstacles he could find to make the task of catching the foot more enjoyable. He was completely dedicated to his current task, not taking any notice of what his luperci masters were doing at the moment.

no worries friend!

She always understood, and always forgave him. It was only one of the many things that he loved about the blind silver collie, but one of the things that he appreciated the most. She always saw the best in him, understood the negative parts that lived within him and willingly ignored them. He felt safe beside her, always defended against judgment and dislike. There would always be a small insecurity that something in his past would come crashing back into his life, as so much had today. And he worried that she would see that he had been something horrible then. But as she had in the past she taught him now how her forgiveness and understanding knew no bounds. When she spoke, he felt a comfort that could not come from any other voice. His hard shell dissolved in an instant, and he felt as if she shielded him from the entire world.

Speaking of the Dreaming leader no longer brought the same sense of concern or stress to him now. The truth was out in the open and he had nothing to hide from her. Such a thing was a work in process, it was hard to always be open and allow his past to enter her life as well. Just as she shielded him, he wished to defend her against it too. He smiled at her, leaning towards her and pressing into her hand. His head turned to kiss her cheek. “I hope she will forgive me.” He spoke, knowing that it would be an awkward thing to ask for. But how could anyone look at him beside Ruri and not know that she had completely changed him.

He would have let the meat burn, if it was not for her keen nose and observation. Heath quickly took the two hares off the fire and set them aside to cool. It had been quite a day, and Heath would sleep well with a full stomach. His mind had been reeling as he had walked through the door, memories of his siblings reeking havoc on his conscious. But as he remained beside his mate, eyes watching her with a visible happiness, everything seemed completely right again. He took a deep breath, sighing as he spoke “I guess we should set a bit aside for Soleil.” He commented as he pulled the hares off the hot spit. He smelled wonderful, the dressing she had given them overpowering his nose and making his mouth water. The cat seemed distracted at the moment. As at eased as the male felt in her presence the past conversations had tightened and knotted his tongue, and he remained silent as he brought the meal to the kitchen.

Ruri :] 1

Heath's kiss followed by his expression of hope made a smile appear on her ivory-furred lips. "I'm sure she will, darling." The words were meant as a last encouragement before they adjourned to the kitchen to eat. Keen ears heeded every sound made by the Marshal as he carried the spitted hares into the kitchen. Of course she followed behind him at an easy pace, not wanting to get in his way. After all he was carrying hot food and she did not want him to accidentally burn himself by trying to avoid running into her. Some might have said that her concerns were unfounded as Heath was a very careful individual which indeed he was. However, for the blue merle collie hybrid being concerned for others was the way she was. Those she loved always took the first place in her thoughts.

The pair entered their home's small kitchen and sat at their table. Ruri could hear their kitten pausing in his game to follow his masters into the other room where he would start up again. "Yes, we should. Even if he doesn't eat it right away, he'll probably get hungry later. I can never tell when or when not to give him food. Sometimes I think he catches things outdoors and eats them because he comes inside with blood all over his face. It usually takes him a long time to clean himself," she giggled, amused by the almost religious cleaning ritual of her feline. Though she could never see it she always could hear him when he was grooming himself. He would go sit in front of the fire and then the licking would begin, sometimes for what seemed like hours. Occasionally he would fall asleep mid-bath and would have to continue when he woke up. The long-haired kitten was an endless source of amusement to the Dauphine.

With the hares having cooled as Ruri and Heath spoke, the petite collie-girl directed her attention toward her mate, "Well, I guess they're ready to eat. Will you try it and tell me how it tastes? I'm usually a horrible judge of my own cooking," she stated, her face flushing slightly with embarrassment. As far as she knew each meal that she had made had tasted good, for now one had ever complained. However, she also knew people had a tendency to just be polite and would likely have refrained from criticizing her cooking out of fear for making her upset. She knew Heath would be honest with her though. That was one of the things she liked about him the most. She knew that everyone had their secrets, but it was always her belief that secrets should only be secret so long as they were not harmful to the person who kept them. Heath had opened himself completely to her and in turn she had opened up completely to him. That was one of their defining characteristics as a mated couple, they trusted each other with one another's secrets.

Big Grin

Heath balanced the hares as he walked into the kitchen, and thoughts just danced round the Crimson Dreams leader once more. He was suddenly hopeful, and even wished that Savina would forget the whole thing so that he could too. He had stopped thinking the way, the way he was that day they fought, a long time ago. And it was about time he stopped avoiding those that lived there, he knew well how pack relations were important and perhaps he could reconnect.

Ruri quickly diverted his thoughts from the ebony leader and back to their little home and family. The orange cat had followed them into the kitchen, his kill in his mouth, tail waving in the air like a victory banner. Heath had witnessed the baths that the cat took, and at first he had found it so odd, and so invasive that he had not been able to watch. But it was only normal feline behavior. He guessed. “He’s good to keep the rodents away from the cabin. I think it’s the only reason they stick around the stables, there are always lots of mice.” He explained, glancing at the cat that twirled between his foot-paws as he tried to walk.

Just as they always did, the two settled with the roasted hared between them. Heath took a moment to watch her, as he often did, and before he ate he said something that only he could hear. It was unlike him, and Heath knew it, but some might call it a prayer. Grateful for every bit that life had given him, despite anything that it had taken. It lasted only a moment, and as she spoke Heath gave a grander smile then his face had been fortunate enough to feel since he arrived home. “Its wonderful.” he spoke, though he had yet to eat a single bit. He always liked anything she made, though his tongue wasn’t known to be particular.

“The weather is warming, we should take the horses out soon. Stark missed you.” He teased slightly. Stark was a thick horse, but if there was any canine that moved him it was Ruri.

Ruri :] 1

Soleil was contentedly weaving through the legs of both of his owners as they sat at their table, not at all caring what they were doing at the moment. He was far more concerned with amusing himself, for he had lots of energy to burn. Ruri on the other hand was listening to her mate as he described the reasons why so many cats hung out around the stables. It only made sense that the felines would stick close to an area with an ample supply of their favorite rodents. "I'm glad that he has something to amuse himself with when he stays at the house. Usually he follows me everywhere, but there are occasions when he decides to stay home. Now I guess I don't need to worry anymore," she replied, her ivory furred hands reaching forth to grab a hold of her hare. The seasoned flesh retained its warmth fairly well, but it was not so hot that Ruri would be unable to eat it. Now that Heath had given his approval, she figured it would be alright for her to start eating as well. Her perfect, white fangs tore a small chunk of meat from the carcass her hands serving as a guide to know what was meat and what was bone. She wholeheartedly agreed with her mate's assessment of the food. The meat tasted great and it had been cooked just right.

Her plumed tail picked up a contented wag, displaying her elation over the success of her meal. Now Soleil became distracted from his game of 'dance around my owner's legs' and decided to play 'get my mistress' tail.' So, he sat with his paw held up, swatting at the collie woman's tail careful to keep his sharp claws in their natural sheaths. The blue merle woman noted the kitten's amusement and with a smile started to purposefully swish her tail back and forth in as many different ways she could manage. When Heath suggested that they take the horses out for a ride soon, her half-folded ears perked up eagerly. She had missed the strong stallion over the chilly months, "Yeah, we should. I'd love that, because I've missed Stark a lot too. How's Lumiere been doing?" she asked, wondering how her mate's favorite horse was faring.

The pair fretted over the kitten’s wellbeing as if it were their offspring. The fluffy feline was not of course, but it didn’t seem to matter to the couple. They had opened their lives to Soleil, given him a home and a warm place to sleep. They kept him fed and gave him plenty of company. It was sort of like practice, for when they had their own litter of pups. Heath had thought about it before, even before then had become mates. The visit from his father, and then again with her meeting with the Dreamer Savina Heath had thought about it once more. He had been so fearful of the subject before, but he knew that they would be good parents. Their children would be proud of both of them, and never wish that they didn’t exist or feel like either their mother or father had hurt them. He wanted to had a family with her, and was ready the moment she was.

Heath ate slowly, savoring the taste of the meat as well as his company. It had been a long day with more ups and downs then Heath normally appreciated. But he could easily forget the problems that he father had set upon him. The Valley leader was far away, and not welcome at the least. Heath could only hope that there would be something arduous that would keep the scarred beast away from their borders.

As the conversation turned to the stable life Heath was more then happy to be speaking about something he was far more comfortable with. It had been too cold for the light coated female to ride, and Heath missed her company on the longer rides that they had taken. He was sure that the pale stallion missed her as well, though his looks were mostly the blank kind. When Heath spoke of his mate to the horse (for at times he did indeed speak to the horses) there was little light that came to his dark eyes. She is well. I hope for her to foal this summer. With Haven Drogon. Heath explained with small smile. He had it all planned.
