He loved to make her laugh, and looked down at her face with a chuckle of his own. Her sarcasm was amusing, for it never sounded quiet right coming from her voice and mouth, but the joke was a good one, and Heath laughed lightly. It brought him the same sort of ease that her body against his did. He had never truly had a home to return to until moving into her cabin, it was a nice feeling, as was knowing that she would be here for him always. “You would be right.” He teased, wanting this feeling to last forever and wishing away the tension that filled his form.
But it did not, and she soon wore a concerned face as she listened to his explanation. He blamed his father for all of this, for bringing him home in such a state and giving it to his mate. Her felt her arms tighten around him, and Heath was glad once more that she had not come across the two males at the borders and that she was safe and sound in their home. The last thing that he ever wanted was for them to meet, for he trusted the Valley leader as much as he did a wild eyed mustang. Calm and collected they could appear in body, but their mind would always have the wild side that would surely kill a handler that did not see it.
The male touched her shoulder, petting it lightly. ”I’m okay.” He responded, though part of it felt untrue. But he did not want to share that hate with her, nor show that side himself that she had quelled within him many months ago. “He claimed that he wanted to know more about the pack, he hadn’t ever been here.” which he thought odd, but anything that the tattered male spoke would be thoughts as a lie in Heath’s ears. “Wanted to know if we were allies to Phoenix Valley. I told him I wasn’t the one to speak to about that.” He could taste the bitterness on his tongue and tried to calm it the best he could.
