this is short too. Sad

Oak could do little more than stare wide-eyed from his mother's serene features to the omnipresent sun. He believed her words without grasping them completely, still too young to fathom the concepts of forever and always. The sun was more than just an object to look at and admire — the young boy understood that it was a seperate being from them, the wolves and other creatures living below. He knew that it cared for them, giving life to the plants and animals. He just did not know how.

The thought of a being greater than himself was suddenly overwhelming. The sun did bring life, but it was so powerful. If something had such radiant power, it could surely use it against the innocents under its reign. The boy's expression twisted slightly with concern, ears falling back as he looked again to his mother with questioning cerulean eyes. He can't hurt us, can he? He's nice?
