Oak turned around on the couch, trying to get more comfortable. These restless mornings annoyed him to no end. He was impatient for the light of day, yet the moments seemed to drag on, the sun taking its sweet time. The chubby young child did not know what woke him so early, unaware that it was the seemingly boundless energy inside, begging to be released. He had come out to the living area thinking that the couch would be a more comfortable place to sleep, but he was having just as much trouble out here as in his family's room.

After making a dent int he cushions with his instinctual circling, Oak flopped down. He huffed a dissatisfied Humph, sighing through his nose with a soft hiss. His bright cobalt eyes closed, and he tried to think of nothing but sleep, the ultimate method of passing the time. Other thoughts invaded, however, memories of the previous day's play with Cypress and Alder, of his mothers soft words. Try as he might to keep anticipation at bay, he began to wonder what today would bring, and if there was adventure in store.

It was useless. His eyes snapped open to the still-dim room. A soft whine escaped him, his agitation making him want to scream at the top of his lungs. He would have done so had he been unaware of the many sleeping wolves, their presence forcing him to keep quiet. Oak lifted himself to his paws and leaped off the couch, toddling towards his mother's room, where he usually slept so well. He scratched the door open with a creamy, red stained paw an peered eagerly inside. Mama? Mama? he whispered, searching for her gray form among the blankets. She would make it better, somehow.

Her dreams were always vivid, playing with the moments of her past and mixing them with the present and her hopeful future. She wouldn’t remember the watercolor painted landscape, the clouded figures and the magical occurrences that played out behind her eyelids. They would all be lost to her when she woke and clear conscious thoughts passed through her mind, but for now she willed her mind to fall deeper into the dream. She wanted to continue with the figures that danced, allowing the picture of herself (a younger Anu) to follow them. The trees were what she saw the clearest, their dark faces and long limbs trapping her but she did not find a shadowed or a frightening feeling plague her. She felt as secure and content as she had curling among the bedding when night fell and she settled in to dream these dreams.

A noise, soft and familiar stirred her. Blue eyes blinked, their lids settling heavy against the water hue orbs and her head turning to see whom it was that called for her. Blinking a few more times she saw the figure of the round red tinted pup. His eyes mirrored hers, and as she looked and recognized her dreams slipped from her grasp to be forgotten for good. There was a bit of worry and concern in her tone, Oak? she questioned, then turned to check the window and finding that the Sun had not risen high enough to speak of true morning.

The wolfess rose, smoothly away from the other sleeping forms that rested among the blankets. She wondered of course what woke him so early, though she knew that he tended to be an early riser. She held a different sense of concern for each of the boys. She worried that Alder would become upset or feel unsure about himself, while Cypress tested her patience and made her worry that he would get into trouble. Oak seemed adventurous but in the way that Haven had been, curious and brave all at the same moment. But of course this was very early. Whats wrong? She questioned a second time, her body now moving to greet him and press her black nose against his forehead as she did with all the children she called her own. It solidified their connection, bringing her worries to an end and reminding herself that he was okay.

Sorry for the short. I wanted to tell you, I'm very grateful that you were willing to have another thread with me. <3

For the fraction of time between his whispered call and the stirring in the bedding, he thought she might not be there. He was young and therefore still unclear on the concept of routine, even his mothers'. Although some part of him yearned for independence, he would have searched for her everywhere if she wasn't in this room, so great was his need for her. The small, shadowed form rose, and his worry ceased to exist, replaced by the instant joy of relief.

His black tipped tail began to wave slowly, ears lowering as he gazed up at his approaching mother. Her eyes, so like his own, were a marvel to him. They never failed to instill serenity and calm , his prior frustrations with sleep dissolving inevitably as soon as he peered adoringly into them. When her nose touched his forehead, he felt the warm bath of her love and safety. The familiar touch was the just comfort that he had been wishing for. I coul'nant sleep, he told her softly, ever aware of his sleeping bothers.

They would all be larger then she when they came to their full height and weight. They would tower over her and hold their fathers stature. Somewhere they also owned the genes of her brothers, her father and the males before them. The Sheah side of her existence was finished, long done to her and all that was left were hazy memories. They had been times of joy, and yet Anu wished to live a life separate of the one she had left behind so many years ago. She would not blame Hollis and Ever's wide shoulders, their massive height and dark ash accents for those of her son's. Anu would live in the present, giving their absent father the rights to these attributes. Despite her lack of transparency in their conception, and the secrets that she kept Anu was settled and comforted in those thoughts.

Her son's words brought a small smile to her lips, and Anu drew her face back to look into the deep cerulean hue that she had give him. There was never confusion, unknowing and distrust within them and her own looked down with the same devotion and adoration that the mother felt herself for the little male. He couldn't sleep? Such a task could be difficult for young ones, something Anu had only remembered since having the boy-pups. Well, she spoke with the same hush in her tone, its very early Oak. The mother said warmly, softly instilling the lesson that he should try to sleep a little longer tomorrow. But then she was certain that nothing would get the pup back in bed and comfortable, Maybe we should take a little walk, and greet the Sun. The wolfess softly opened the cracked door with her nose, and let her tree-pup exit and followed his red and cream tinted form.

Aww, I love threading with you.

Anu was larger than life to Oak, the largest among the wolves who wandered within his life like untouchable ghosts. She was the biggest, realest, and the most tangible being of any and all others. He was never distressed by her authority, and when she commanded him, he was only eager to heed her. Every word she spoke was right and good in the eyes of the young sapling. She was his Mother, and therefore she could do no wrong.

She humbled him with her softly spoken criticism. The translucent lesson in her words caused the boy's ears to fall slightly. He hated to displease her. At once he wished that he had remained on the couch in spite of his morning insomnia, simply to avoid any disappointment she felt for him. I know, I'nam sorry, the boy spoke, looking away from her for a second in mild shame. Then she continued with unexpected words, and his lake-shaded gaze found hers again, widened with the surprise she had given him. Immediately his ears rose joyfully, ash tipped tail beginning to wave as he smiled in unhindered excitement. Yes! Can we? He could think of no other response, overcome with happiness. Moments alone with Mama were all too rare.

There would always be lessons that needed to be taught, for the things that needed to be learned were endless. Anu did not think she was a strict mother, her words were soft not stern and she allowed foolishness and fun. But she did worry and want to protect them, and of course she was partially blind to how her actions were preserved. To another it could have been looked upon as smothering and controlling, while Anu felt it only caring. Though with the small lesson that she taught now was ended with this small reward of started the new day together.

Come on. The mother said with a whisper. She padded out the door and then turned to make sure the brick dusted pup was following, her soft features smiling at him. The silver and tan mother did not want him to dwell on the small infraction and was happy to see that he was excited about the new small adventure. It wasn’t every day that she could spend time alone with each of her children. At times they were off on their own, and with Alder clinging to her more often then not it was quite a rarity.

With grace that had come with age and experience the female walked down the hall and towards the large front door. The scent of her tree-named son lingered in the common room, making her think that he had been up and wandering before he had woken her. Though she wanted him to try to sleep as long as he could, she always hoped that he would wake her if it was a night terror that plagued his dreaming mind. Without stopping she moved right to the heavy door and opened it with ease. There her body held it open and waited for the pup to exit first.

She reassured him with her beckoning whisper, stepping away from the room and into the hall. He followed close behind, his ears now fully perked and tail wagging eagerly. He couldn't believe his luck. At best, he expected a special spot beside her to rest until the hour was later and it was time for them all to awaken. Instead, they were heading into the young, mysterious dawn together. He had never pushed for time alone with his mother, content to spend it among his brothers. Yet, he was undeniably pleased about the way things had turned out.

Oak paused and watched her open the door, remembering his height all too grudgingly as she turned the handle with ease. He couldn't wait until he was big enough to open the door himself. A grin graced his boyish features when she held the door open for him, the simple courtesy imprinting on his mind. He wove through her tall legs and scurried to the porch steps. The sky was half-lit, light growing in the eastern distance. Everything was dusted with gray, from the blue-gray sky to the gray-green grass below. He chose to peer into the light, though, smiling to see the upper crest of the golden sun coming over the horizon. With a strong wag of his tail, Oak peered over his shoulder for his Mother and spoke excitedly, his voice remaining hushed though they were now out of doors. Look, the sun is coming!

Their time was so normally spent as a family that Anu hadn’t been able to spend too much time with each boy alone. Alder was most likely the one that would get special time with her, simply because he was keen on waiting until his brother ventured off on their own and perfectly content with her presence being a constant factor in his life. But that had never stopped the mother from getting to know each of the boys as individuals, and it did not mean that she had chosen a favorite in this litter. It was harder then before, when she secretly favored Haven out of the four.

But not this time, she found that she loved the three dearly and equally. Each time she looked to one of them she found something that amazed and surprised her, their intelligence or how they might have grown so quickly in one passing night. It all made her love them each dearly. And as Oak walked along with her she was finding that his intuitive and observant nature was making her proud mothering heart flutter. With his soft words he called to her, they were low as if he was worried that he might scare off the god that he was speaking of.

Her water hued eyes looked to her sons deep cerulean, they were bright and she nodded her head and looked past him to see the rising Sun. The wolfess sat for a moment on the porch step, her eyes looking out to watch the soft light the bleed into the night’s dying sky. Do you see? She asked, her own voice as hushed as his had been, He comes up so slowly, the light asking the night to leave politely. There was nothing harsh about the rising Sun, he was awakening with the same fluid motion that they did, fluttering eye lids, dreams washing from memory, muscles and body warming slowly with stretches. Anu felt herself waking fully now, her mind sharper then it had been just a moment ago.

Oak had never felt the need to compete for Anu's attention, not even with Alder. They all sought the one to drive away their fears when frightened by the unknown, and she was there for support whenever any of them needed it. Alder seemed shyer, more uncertain than him — so Oak understood, at some level, why the masked boy tended to seek their mother alone more often than himself and Cypress. This had been the way of things since his faintest, earliest memory. As long as Anu continued to show that she loved them equally, as she always had, Oak was not at all troubled.

His irritation with the morning's insomnia faded as they strode together into the growing light of the new day. It seemed that the word was awakening, he could hear it. A symphony of birdsong rose in volume with each passing moment as the crickets continued to chirp from their secret hiding places all around them. The world was somehow much more arresting at this hour, or perhaps Oak thought so simply because he had never witnessed a day so young before. Gazing up at his mother, he listened with perked ears to her peaceful comments about their rising Sun. He had never imagined the powerful globe in a polite sense such as Anu had described; but with its measured, steady arrival into the day, Oak understood why she had explained it in such a way. The sun now seemed the perfect model for courtesy with its gentle request for night to leave. The unbreakable connection between night and day made more sense to him because of her compassionate lesson. Always? he asked softly, wanting to know for sure.

sooo sort ><;;

His question came to her ears as she looked up at the glowing and slowly rising circle. There was no hesitation in her answer, Yes, always. Such was the Sun, and there was much more that could be said about it's perfection and the consistency that it always showed. The hello of the morning, the good bye of night. It never ended, and she believed that it never would. Even on days so dark, storms so thick that it seemed like night would never end the Sun was always behind their atmospheric haze. But the Sun is far more perfect then we are, his manners are centuries practiced. She assured her son, knowing that such an ominous being could be intimidating when attempting to compare oneself with it. But that was the gods were, and they mustn't believe that they would live long enough to reach such a level of divinity.

this is short too. Sad

Oak could do little more than stare wide-eyed from his mother's serene features to the omnipresent sun. He believed her words without grasping them completely, still too young to fathom the concepts of forever and always. The sun was more than just an object to look at and admire — the young boy understood that it was a seperate being from them, the wolves and other creatures living below. He knew that it cared for them, giving life to the plants and animals. He just did not know how.

The thought of a being greater than himself was suddenly overwhelming. The sun did bring life, but it was so powerful. If something had such radiant power, it could surely use it against the innocents under its reign. The boy's expression twisted slightly with concern, ears falling back as he looked again to his mother with questioning cerulean eyes. He can't hurt us, can he? He's nice?

There would always be mysteries, and things that Oak and his brother wouldn't understand. Even Anu did not know what had brought the sun into being, and lived with the mystery of the beginning of the world. Others could be explained in books, and through science. But the Dreaming mother did not know the details of such things, her training was only what her father had given her all those years ago and it was faith that truly guided her now. With bits of biology to back it up. Still, she had faith in the cloud seated globe and forever would.

Oak spoke, and Anu looked down at the small pup. Blue eyes searched his face for a brief moment and there was a small calm smile crossing her maw. No, he does not wish to hurt us. He is like a father, and tries to give us all we need. She knew that her son would not understand all that surrounded a deity, and how faith was something that needed to be surrendered to. But she hoped that she was able to explain it to the rusty hued boy in a fashion that he might comprehend.

There were so many things in this huge world that he had yet to understand. Oak gazed at his mother questioningly, entrusting her with the answers that he sought. The boy was far too young to grasp faith, and for now it appeared to him as something of an essential key to be found on his own journey through life. He couldn't have spoken this aloud in so many words, but he saw it in the face of his mother, and it made him inherently wish it for himself. Someday.

She looked back at him as she spoke, searching, and Oak wondered what for. Anu helped her son see that, like fathers, the Sun was protective and loving. He tore his eyes from Anu's face and looked at the sun, not longing, but observing. With its growing warmth and light, and with his mother's words in his thoughts, Oak saw that the Sun could only be good. The little boy felt relief, but then confusion.

He turned back to her, his brow furrowing slightly over his lake-hued eyes. A father...? His features grew puzzled. Artemis, Parker and Silvano had a father, but he and his brothers did not. Why don't I have a father? His tone was very gentle, but troubled with his unknowing.

Anu had grown with a father that had taught her everything he had known. She had aspired to be as rooted and faithful as he had been, and though his time had come and his life had returned to the Earth that he had so passionately tended to. Without him in her life Anu looked to whom he did, and in the round glow she saw the face of her father and heard his deep calm tone. That was what the Sun was to her.

Sky hued eyes looked at the red tinted pup. And she could see the question on his face before he even need to speak it. In the days of their growing within her womb Anu had prepared herself for this moment, and as she look to her son she saw all the parts that his father had given him.

We all have a father. She stated, a soft smile cast on her face and her heart surprisingly calm. The female had thought that no matter how much preparation she had taken for this moment she would still find explaining how Oak and his brother came into existence as a nerve-wracking task. But the thoughts of her father and the stability of the Sun brought her a new calm. Your father does not live among us, he is an alpha of a clan far to the north. He is a noble creature, and strong just as you and your brothers will grow. Suddenly Anu missed Gabriel dearly, and saw him looking through the pup, even in the blue eyes she had given Oak.

Oak was more curious than upset. He could not miss what he had never possessed. He had a mother, and that was all right because she left nothing desired. Anu was enough. She provided all the love and support that he could ever want, and the boy couldn't even imagine what it would be like to take guidance from another wolf. He accept things the way they were, yet the incongruity he saw between himself and other puppies with two parents was something he wished to figure out now.

He cocked his head to one side when she spoke, telling him that everyone had a father. He had assumed that he just didn't have one, that his creation had come only of Anu. Now he realized that there really was another, a wolf of far off lands who was strong and noble. Oak smiled, comforted to hear good things about the stranger who had played a role in bringing him into existence.

However, her answers created more questions in the boy's mind, so desperately did he wish to understand. He wondered why he had never met this male, and if it was a bad thing that he hadn't. Once more, he looked to his mother's face for comfort, and recalled her tone — relaxed, and calm. Seeing that she was okay with what she had told him was enough to bring faith to his heart, certainty that things were as they should be and that nothing was wrong. Still, he had his questions. Does he want to see me someday? Will I meet him? Does he love me like you do? For some reason, he couldn't bring himself to inquire.

She would always hope to be enough, and she would always worry that what they had would not everything that the needed. But it was not just she, her blue eyes looked upon the amount of support that they had every day. The pack was here, and without them Anu was certain that she would fail in her duty as a mother no matter if she had a male to help her. It wasn’t to be her life, and Anu could not imagine it with a male as a mate and a father to her litter. She had wishes and hopes for such companionship, but it was with a female that she could only see herself with and she would be more then grateful for such a blessing.

Anu hoped that her words would be enough, but she was not one to speak in the simplest of terms and her words would always hold more then their syllables would. The depth of what she said could not be found by one with such a young mind, and she was not surprised when there was more then just one question in the mind of her sharp and intelligent son. She wished she knew the answer, she wished she knew if and when the Inferni alpha would come to see the litter that he had help create. But she believed certain things about the doggish Gabriel and answered with her honest belief. Yes, I know he wishes to meet you. Anu spoke, smiling as she looked at the unsure pup.

There were no excuses for the Inferni leader, for he owned the Dreamers nothing. It would be a kindness if he traveled here to see the three sons that Anu had bore, it would not be an obligation. Someday. But it is important that we understand his obligation is to his pack, they need him just like our pack needs us.

This was a lot for the boy to take in, despite his mother's gentle way of teaching him. Oak was saddened by the reality that his father existed and knew of him, but had never taken a moment to meet himself and his brothers.Mama sometimes left them early to do whatever it was she was obligated to do for their pack, and he missed her then, yet inherently understood that she could not spare those moments for him. He could understand how his father might have the same dilemma. Thinking of it that way made him feel a bit better, though uncertainty lingered as it must for a boy too young to understand as much as he wanted.

With the soft sound of fluttering wings, the child sighed after his mother had spoken; the deep, fresh breath gave him some relief from his the burden of his new knowledge. After all, Mama had said that his father wished to see him, and that someday, they would meet. That gave him something to look forward to. 'Kay. he said wistfully. Deciding that he wished to be nearer to his mother, the pup moved to snuggle close beside the silver and topaz fae. He leaned into her slightly and rested the side of his snout against her foreleg. I love you, Mama.

can we have updated threaddddd?? <333 oak

It was not an easy realization. And Anu understood this. They had been able to keep the truth of their father away from Haven and Mati until they were older, and still it had been devastating to know. Anu was not shamed by Gabriel, how she felt towards him was not always clear and fully understood but it was not negative in any way and never had been. She would not hide him from her sons, and only try to make them realize that they did not need him as a father. Not in the way that Savina’s children needed Kansas. It wasn’t that her sons would be stronger; it was simply that they live without and not feel a void.

She listened to the deep and big-breathed sigh, knowing that this was not a conversation that would be gather dust for long. The mother did not mind their curiosity, she did not mind that any of her sons wished to know who their father was. But she would always remind them that his life was not intertwined with their life. Her eyes looked back to the round orb, gathering strength from his warmth. She then felt the soft pressure of the pup against her, and she closed her eyes for the briefest of moments before turning to look down at his face. He spoke, and she felt that deep connection that she had never felt before his birth.

I love you, Oak.

fail short to end. and I'm so glad you like him. That's a big relief. <333

The boy felt a surge of warmth and belonging with her returned expression of love, giggling and cuddling closer to her. It would take Oak many months, and maybe even years, to understand and accept fully what his mother had shared with him today. He would spend hours pondering it, gradually making sense of it in his mind, but for now he was content to remain slightly puzzled. He was on the rocky road that all must travel in their coming of age, but day by day he would get closer and closer. Perhaps, with this newly acquired perspective of himself, he might at least sleep a little longer in the mornings.
