Hotaru
Sometimes the light that guides us along our paths, is not something that we can see, but something deep inside of us.

For wolves, being cold was an unpleasant and extremely rare event. The grey female sported a thick coat that contained two layers of fur. The first layer kept her warm, the second kept her dry. However, with her lower half submerged in icy water, being cold was unavoidable. The frozen lake bit at her legs and crept into her skin, making concentrating extremely difficult. If it weren't for the puppies cries and Fawkes's direction, she would have never been able to locate the drowning canine. As Hotaru hauled the young creature out of the water she couldn't help but wonder who it was that she had cried out for. The word had sounded like a name. Perhaps her mother?

Dripping wet and shaking like a leaf, the two sat at the banks of the lake and slowly dried their coats in the sun. The black puppy, a unfamiliar face to Hotaru, nuzzled deep into her dry chest as she searched for warmth. Her small voice came out as a stuttered whisper and revealed just how terrified she really was. Gently, Hotaru stroked her hand from the child's head to it's back, offering her comfort and peace. "Shh, it's alright. Your safe now, don't worry little one."

Fawkes stared at the couple from his perch in the tree above them. His head cocked to the side as he observed the strange, little female. It's coat was all black and it had bright amber eyes. It was only a little thing and probably couldn't even shift. Fawkes decided that it was time to get a better look and with a few half-halfhearted flaps of his great wings, he flew out of the tree and glided down to get a better look. Hotaru's ears swiveled as she noted his landing but said nothing as he trudged right up to the black female. "Pup no swim?"
