The black woman screamed as Thanatos held onto her and Shadow growled, telling him her mind had been tainted. Shadow spoke to the woman and then finally noticed the hole in his chest where the woman had her knife. Thanatos growled, furious that Shadow’s mate would cause him harm. True he didn’t know the whole story but it didn’t make him any less angry. Even if her mind was tainted it was no excuse. She seemed perfectly fine to Thanatos and he heard voices in his mind.
He looked up as Shadow told him not to harm the woman. Thanatos growled for a moment and finally gave in, nodding in agreement. The woman, Insomnia, seemed to give in. She stopped thrashing around and whined, asking to be let go. Thanatos released her and stood beside Shadow. If she tried to use the knife again, he would be sure to step between Shadow and Insomnia, taking whatever damage she aimed to do to his brother.
