To explore the unknown

Nowadays, her family was large and widespread. Naniko had learned over her lifetime that it didn't matter whether you were related to someone by blood or not, that family could be a choice. She no longer thought of Kaelyn Trickery and Roman D'angelo as her family, not any more. She was a part of many different families now; the Sadiras through her mother, the Aattes and the Nothings through Conri.

Today was was accompanied by two of the four pups, the two girls. Small white Brooklyn followed behind her mother avidly, watching her every move with clear blue eyes, while the larger, brown Mati raced along ahead. Naniko was making sure that she didn't get too far ahead, though, giving a bark when the pup strayed too far. Naniko had been thinking a lot about Odebeh lately, the small pup who she had adopted before giving birth. She didn't see him around much since the little ones had come, and wasn't sure where she could look for him.

When she saw the male off in the distance, near the border, Naniko frowned. She wasn't really in a position where she could be a protector, in her lupus form with two wild puppies running around her. The commander gave a warning bark to Mati, who came running back to her, jumping up to lick beneath her chin, and then looked behind herself to Brooklyn. "Go hide. And don't come out until I say so." She said, scooting both pups into the brush. They did as they were told, sitting behind a log and looking out toward their mother, watching what she was doing.

She approached the stranger with her tail high, an arc over her back. She looked at him cautiously, though. "Can I help you with something?"
