From the top of the tree he could see just about everything. The sun shone brightly down across all of Inferni and, if it weren't for the fact that Jasper knew some of the residents could be as horrible as they were, the sight would have been profoundly beautiful. The young man knew that the beauty was just a mask, beautiful no matter how barren some parts of his 'home' happened to be, because beneath the beauty that he tried so desperately to see, he knew there was something horrible. What horrible things had the coyotes of Inferni done, though? Honestly, all Jasper had to go on were rumors, for he had never been close enough to see anything happen nor brave enough to ask Corona or Gabriel if the rumors were true. He had no proof, only word, and even then he was convinced that he felt something terrible in this place.

Dropping his butt down onto the thick branch where he had previously been standing, Jasper turned himself and held on carefully with both hands, dropping to the ground below. Unfortunately for him, his landing was as simple as he could have hoped for. There was a soft crunch as he landed, sickeningly squishy feeling beneath his right foot. He hadn't noticed the tiny mouse, who had likely only stopped for a small morsel of food, when he was dropping from the tree. He moved his foot, immediately dropping to the ground at the sight of the now half dead creature.
"Ohh.."It was a quiet sound, sad. He hadn't meant to and though many would simply pass on, Jasper couldn't. Jasper scooped the little grey mouse from the ground, cupping it in his hands and holding it close. Hopefully it wouldn't suffer long, Jasper didn't have the heart to finish it off. It was one thing to kill something with the intent of eating it but it was a whole other killing it on accident.
