For Alli-kins ^_^

It had been a wonderful day, the warmest in months. A person who had been living in the South most of their life might not have considered the high forties to be warm, but for Ruri who had just spent her first winter in the North today had been warm. Her cashmere tunic was hanging in the closet, not on her form, for today she had enjoyed the pleasure of walking around outdoors feeling the pleasant, cool air touching every part of her body which until now had needed to be shielded from freezing temperatures. She had just returned home, and she was walking through her cabin running her fingers through her long, silvery locks, carefully removing any knots that might have formed as it blew in the wind. Upon reaching the room designated as the kitchen, where the food was normally stored, the blind collie woman had successfully fixed her hair, returning it to its appropriate position, cascading down her back like a silvery waterfall. Ivory-furred hands felt around inside the small, walk-in pantry in the back of the tiny kitchen, feeling around for any scraps of meat that might have been left. Unfortunately there was nothing but a few dusty spice jars, and a few small piles of dried herbs. The late Svara Thames, who had previously shared the cabin with the Dauphine had left these behind. The harsh woman had, in the short time that Ruri knew her, attempted to cook several times with limited success. As such, most of the spices in the little jars were common, likely scavenged from some dusty spice rack in Lunenburg. Salt, ground black pepper, basil, oregano, even rosemary were the ones that Ruri recognized. During her early life, the delicate girl had learned to cook. However, the extent of her skills basically consisted in how to prepare meat in a more savory form than simply raw. She was never able to do so alone, for working over an open flame was, as one might imagine, somewhat dangerous for her. She could smell when the meat was cooked, which seasonings would taste best, and other, non-visual aspects of cooking, but the actual act of rotating the meat over the flames had always been one that needed to be done by someone else.

It was late in the day, and the lautari was expecting her mate to return home at any moment. It had been her initial plan to prepare something for the both of them to cook and eat together, but the present lack of the main ingredient had altogether derailed her idea. However, she still continued to investigate the spices in the pantry, taking each jar, unscrewing it and testing the scent of each of them. Even if they had no food now, she wanted to plan out how she would prepare something next time, so that when she had something to prepare she would be ready.
