A tiny golden wolf sat at the edge of the eastern border, howling pitifully. She couldn't have been more than eight weeks old, though her size made her seem more like a newly-born puppy. Her fur was matted and ripped out in places, giving her a ruffled, injured look despite the apparent lack of injuries. Her light gold eyes were closed tightly in her effort to get attention when she dared not cross over the line that marked the Phoenix Valley territory.
The pleading howl turned into a yelp as a particularly large mouse decided to nip her foot. The young Luperci growled angrily, snapping at the rodent. It scurried away and she didn't bother to follow, deciding to return to making a racket instead. Instinctively she lied down as the sun set, her tail curled up around her. She refused to stop howling; she needed attention.
