The silver-furred woman was in her cave, her thoughts on the sable-furred canine who had showed up on the borders days prior. Eris represented a problem—fully grown now, she was certainly different from her siblings. It was undeniable anymore—she had not seen Arkham since he had fully matured, but she had seen Rachias, her lovely hybrid features declaring her father a coyote, at least in part. Her sable-furred half-sister, on the other hand, clearly showed far more wolfish features. There would be no passing Laruku or Astaroth off as her father—neither coyote could have paternity over such a clearly wolf-dominant hybrid. Perhaps those not so knowledgeable in the blends of various canine types would be fooled, but Kaena knew better. The silver-shaded coyote held no doubt that most of the Lykoi might also be able to discern that something was off about Eris—perhaps they could not say so as definitively as she, but they would know.
The sound of running drew her attention, and after a moment she emerged from the cave in time to see Vieira collapse by the small garden she had been attempting to cultivate. The silver-shaded hybrid saw no sense in that—come winter, it would be as dead and free of green as the rest of the waste, whereas the greenhouse would still be warm and hospitable to the plants. Distress marked the tawny-furred woman, and the scarred elder did not have to wonder why—the vague scent of Eris clung to Viei's fur, and the one-eyed woman winced, considering she might have told Vieira about Eris's arrival—now it would seem the Quintus had figured it out on her own. Hesitantly the scarred woman made her way toward Viei, halting behind her. “She's come home, I guess,” the coyote said flatly. “I should have warned you.”
