The ash-colored coyote knew next to nothing about her daughter, and she did not truly desire to know more than she did. What Eris had shown her thus far proved nothing but that she was a spoiled little shit, and that she had absorbed far more from Astaroth than her absentee mother, or even her unknown father. There was arrogance and petulance both there, a simpering sort of uselessness that could not see its own failure; even Vieira, who could not even hunt for herself, far surpassed Eris in terms of usefulness.
The coyote woman's yellow-golden eye grew distant at the smaller canine's question, thinking over this. Part of Kaena wanted to drive Eris back to the place from whence she came; part of Kaena did not care if she never saw her daughter again. Even so, blood was blood, and the hybrid could not altogether abandon her own. A frown crossed her scarred muzzle, and her ears turned back, tilting to the rear just slightly. “If she doesn't do anything to get herself kicked out, she won't be,” the hybrid said. “It's on her,” the hybrid added, rolling a coal-shaded shoulder anxiously.
The coyote woman frowned at the paler canine, her one-eyed gaze focused back on the other canine. Once again the creeping sensation that Vieira could be passed along like so much property haunted her, and the silver-shaded woman turned her nose to the ground, her gaze refusing to meet Vieira after just a moment. “Vieira,” she said, lifting her gaze once more. Nervousness pervaded her every movement and expression; she could not seem to remain still for more than thirty seconds at a time without readjusting her position. “I don't want to own you anymore. I don't want you to be owned anymore,” she said, speaking quickly, revising her rough thoughts even as she gave them to the Quintus.
