a cold evening indeed

He hadn't realized how the time had flown, out on the beach for most of his waking hours. The sea still fascinated him, just as it had when he was younger. The waves crashing, the foam against the sand. It should have been snowy there, but the water kept it away. Why, though? He pondered the answer as he trotted back toward home, to the house that he shared with Vigilante and his family. Others had since left, but the boy was still around; he felt glad that he was still welcome, especially after the new presence of younger pups. Though he knew he wasn't truly family, he couldn't help but feel subtle jealousy toward the two boys. They had a mother and a father, while he had none. King Vigi could only be so much for the mottled male.

He shook his fur loose of the clumps of snow that clung to his paws and the longer hairs on his stomach. Winter was tedious, that was for certain. A grunt escaped him as he trudged away from the door, heading for a source of warmth that lead him to the presence of Vigilante Haskel and the two young boys. They were playing with a ball, interacting as siblings did. Another pang of jealous entered Kambujiya's chest. He was older, but he had few friends; the boy was reclusive, and rarely reached out to others, leaving him to his own devices.

He cleared his throat and moved farther into the room, ears back in an undesired display of his low spirits while he found a place to rest. Flopping down, he was quick to roll onto his side and close his eyes. As usual, his day was long, leaving him lazy within the walls of the house.
