The more she watched the cat, the more she imitated him. There was never any rush in the animal’s steps, and he walked in a manner that looked fluid and graceful. Salvia sought to emulate him, and it had begun to show. In her mind, she even had begun to resemble the feline—with her now sharp ears and face, and claws she sharpened daily. Even as she watched her uncle her tail-tip moved slightly, betraying her bodies readiness for action. Her kill had filled her with adrenaline, and it showed in each breath.

As he stretched, Salvia envied his body. She wanted to be large and grown up. Her paws showed she would one day be large indeed, but even now she was towered over by her colossal brother. Pandemic had always been bigger, but now with only two mouths to feed, the puppies had both gained immense size. They would no doubt be imposing figures when they were fully grown.

His question made her eyes narrow. It sounded like a trick. Of course she loved him, why wouldn’t she? He was her uncle, he was smart and funny (even if sometimes cruel) and she admired his ways. Making him happy would be the same as making her parents happy, which she tried to do as often as she could. Eris had changed since Wretch’s disappearance, and Salvia wanted her old mother back. “Yes,” she said, remaining still because she did not know what he might want. “What do you want?” She imagined he would want her to go find her mother, or something stupid like that. It was a menial task that she had seen other parents put their children to work for. Salvia’s, of course, never did such a thing. While disciplined, she was also spoiled. Paradoxical as she was, Salvia had developed into quite an assertive little beast.
