A toy for you

Inrik was hard at work that morning, his hammer pounding and shifting metal. His furnace bellowed smoke as it heated the next item to shape. His muscles shifting in noticeable strain; a feeling he had grown addicted to. His face was hard with concentration as the clang of his hammer and anvil echoed through the streets. He had banged the piece of iron to the shape he wanted before the glow of hot metal started to fade. He dropped it carefully in the barrel of water at his side, it spit and sizzled steam as it lowered in. He paused a moment slightly panting from the heat. He stepped away to drink from a leather water.

Now that the sounds of his work subsided that’s when he heard a noise. He knew it was close and found himself drawn to it with a strange curiosity when his normal reaction would be one of passive ignorance. The heat must be getting to me today He whispered to himself to justify the feeling. Still he followed the sound he had yet to name. He drew his gold and silver hilted dagger as a natural reaction to someone of something suspicious. He didn’t seek for long because at the side of a collapsed house not far from his workstation was the source of the odd noise.
