Rain down, rain down on me

The dark night smelt of the coming of rain, the drops hanging stagnant in the clouds above. The moon's glow was shadowed by the thick atmosphere and the world seemed colder by the lack of her gaze. Dry strands of grass broke beneath her falling paws, they wished for the storm that sat above, teasing their Summer weary roots. Her breath was ragged, drawn in and out with a haste it was no long used to. But her body was lean, still trained for travel she had made in her younger days. The lithe gray wolf had heard the call, the tone of a dear friend seeking out her company. But Anu knew better then to believe that he looked for her in the sunless night simply for her companionship. It rousted her from her sleep, beneath an orchard tree, and brought her to her paws. Without hesitation she ran, the journey to the border of her homeland begun with a dazed and sleepy mind.

But it did not take her long for the sleep to clear and her determination to come forth.

Through the black she could see them and to her surprise there were three. Their horses as well. Nayati, what has happened? She asked as she approached, neck curving to look upwards at the tall pale male. Anu couldn't understand, for the man had always reached her in the day, and without the sent of fear that lingered among the group. Gaze moved to the two females, one pale while the other was dark and melted into the night. It would be foolish to think that there was nothing amiss.
