Nayati had never felt such anger before; not even when Maska had had one of his goons beat Liliana. He felt as if his body might simply explode from the surge of heat that had flushed through him and the buzzing that seemed to vibrate every muscle in his body. He had the element of surprise, but that would soon wear off, and the Utina was not skilled in hand-to-hand combat. His skill was limited to the very basics and what his instincts told him. If the hunter had been thinking, he would have shot this man dead from a distance instead of getting into close quarters. Nayati had not been thinking though and would soon pay for such oversight.

He saw the surprise he had gained melt away as soon as the bastard's face melted into a frightful expression of rage that undoubtedly matched Nayati's own. Then a hit he had not even seen coming pushed him aside like a child and made his brain rattle inside his skull. Vision went blurry and there was no such thing as balance for a few seconds time, but then he found his feet, but only saw clearly in time to have the giant he had engaged barrel into him. The Utina felt his back smash against the unforgiving trunk of a tree and the air flew from his lungs. A hand was around his throat and he felt his feet leave the ground. Nayati hadn't truly realized how large this wolf was when he had been kneeling behind his sister, but now he saw, and knew how greatly out-matched he was.

Another brutal hit to the back of his head and then all of a sudden he couldn't breathe. That massive hand was clamped down so hard around his neck that no air could get through to his lungs. Nayati's hands wrapped desperately around the large wrist that held him up. I...have to...save...Sunki... he thought. It did not matter if he made it or not, as long as his sister was safe. His vision was starting to grow dark around the edges and all he could see were those mad, cruel eyes staring at him. A hand fumblingly felt for and grabbed the handle of his hunting knife strapped across his chest. He pulled it from its sheath and with all the strength he had, plunged the bone blade into the eye of the monster.

Suddenly he was falling and hit the ground with a jerk. The pressure around his throat was gone and air rushed into his body with a loud gasp. Nayati pushed himself up on his shaking arms, coughing. His eyes had difficulty focusing, but soon he smelt the unmistakable scent of blood. The knife was set deep into the beast's skull and a large pool of blood was forming beneath the lifeless body of the giant. Without really thinking, the Utina grabbed the handle and pulled the knife free after a couple tries. He looked around for his sister and had to squint to make out her huddled form a few feet away.

His thoughts felt like they were trudging through thick mud, but he knew they had to get away from here. "Sun-ki-" he croaked, "m-ust-go." Nayati was not entirely steady on his feet, but still he extended his hand that did not hold the bloody knife to his sister.
