Tea for them both is lavender, mint, and tansy. Helotes' has ground up poppy seed in it as well. Word Count »

The jackal frowned, but it seemed as if his face only varied between neutral and a frown. Enkiel knew that his concept of rest was not the sort most members subscribed to. Gabriel alone had listened, but then again, Gabriel had been unable to walk for several long weeks. Of course a broken bone was far more serious than a few deep cuts and bruises. The woman that had done this to Helotes surely had done so in a rage—they were jagged and savage wounds, after all.

Heading inside, Enkiel led the two to one of the empty rooms. Vesper still had the claim in his patient room, but the jackal had been clearing out a second for such events like these. After leading them inside, he excused himself to gather some of the still hot water steaming away on the wood-fire stove. Vesper was not there, but he was not worried—she was no longer at death’s door, after all.

Enkiel returned with two bowls, and handed these two his guests. “After you drink this, Helotes, lay there.” He did not ask, as was his custom. The bed itself was not human made, and had been constructed by Ezekiel. Wooden in form, it was an elevated thing made of wooden staves. Atop this a pillow that fit lengthwise along these was laid, constructed of deer hide and stuffed with down. It was not extremely plush, but sat atop a mass of dried grass that softened the area between the bed and the frame.
