When she looked up, Trent avoided eye contact because he didn't want the possibility that she might see it as an incentive to go on. She'd already made it clear she didn't want to, and he wasn't sure if it was because she didn't want to be with him or because she hadn't really meant to be with anyone to start with. It scarcely mattered, though, other than the fact that he might try and pursue mateship with her in the future if it was the latter; but right now, Trent didn't really care whether she was revulsed by him or by herself for the things they'd nearly done.

When she asked if it'd end, accompanied by a laugh that could've been one out of shock, terror, sadness or actual funny, he had to think a moment about what she meant. Only after a couple of seconds did he realise that she meant the season, and he nodded. He remembered it from his old pack, remembered it because that was the time his parents'd try to push him into getting involved with the girls in his old pack. Yes, it'll end. For you, it doesn't usually take that long. The females would just go into heat for a while, hoping that some strong and handsome male would come along and give them strong and handsome puppies (good for Terra that she'd pulled away in the light of that, he thought to himself, as he'd come along in a moment of nature's weakness with no stronger, more handsome male around to fight him for this opportunity). For the males though, it tended to last a bit longer, since when one female was out of heat, another might get in it again and so throughout most of spring there'd be alluring scents lingering around.

Well, scents alluring to some males, at least. Trent was just playing pretend, after all, playing in a game that was way out of his league.

Trent felt awkward then, not really sure how to behave. He'd already said it was okay, and what else could he do? Trying to make random conversation seemed kind of silly and very much out of place right now. Still in his hunched position with pulled up knees, he looked up at her through strands of cinnamon male that had fallen in his face again, and smiled awkwardly.
