Terra’s reaction was fervent, as if discontinuing contact would prove dangerous for her. Cerberus looked the fae over curiously, wondering what it was she was thinking. But he didn’t ask; instead, Ceri returned his hand to her hair, sliding his fingers through the soft tresses. Nudging closer, Cerberus allowed his gaze to dance around the girl’s face and neck, until finally his hand slid down her back and came to a stop on her hip. Ears swiveling back to lie flat against his skull, Ceri’s usual coy grin found its way to his lips again, and he looked into Terra’s eyes playfully yet seductively. He understood now what she wanted, but he wasn’t going to give it to her that easily. It was just how he was: willing to flirt, but far above the notion of mindless sex. He supposed that being somewhat in touch with his emotional side made him a little less piggish than most men, and he was fine with that. He’d received a fair amount of tongue lashings for it, but he’d also received a great deal of respect. Those who gave him such respect were the ones whose company he valued. If he was going to mate for life, he wasn’t about to dance around to various beds and run the risk of having children dotting the land. He was by no means ready to be a father, and because of this, he was almost painfully careful with his affection.
But then again, perhaps this was the true reason he didn’t ever go beyond ‘first base’ with most canines? And he knew it was – he was terrified of the thought of becoming a father. Not only was he absolutely not ready to give up the freedom of wandering wherever he pleased and flirting with…well, anyone really, deep down he wondered if he would turn out to be just like his parents: cold and oblivious. To have yet another suicide on his hands, perhaps even more than one…it was enough to tempt him to remain celibate for the rest of his life.
Shaking himself from his thoughts, Cerberus resolved to simply holding Terra, staring out at the slick surface of the frozen pond as his heart threatened to tear from his chest. He didn’t want to be serious about this anymore; he wanted to go back to playing like they had before. That’s what he was good at, playing. Suddenly he had an idea, and with a quick nip to Terra’s ear, Cerberus grinned wickedly and moved to pin the girl down. I have a surprise for you, he growled, and you’re going to love it!
