The more the moose struggled, the more the branches tore into it's skin. Meanwhile, both Terra and Hotaru were attacking it relentlessly. Hotaru's red ears twitched every time the coywolf yipped or growled. Soon the intoxicating scent of blood filled the air and the movements of the moose began to slow. It was sick and bleeding profusely. The moose's time had come to an end and would feed two hungry predators well. Hotaru backed off, just narrowly avoiding a kick in the process.

The grey wolf ducked into the bushes again, her small lupus frame easily fit between the wooden fingers. She picked her way through the bushes as she slowly moved around the beast. Panicked snorts grew louder and louder as she moved closer toward its head. The fear in the moose had reached an all time high and Hotaru wondered if its heart might give out from the stress rather than blood loss.

Once again, the blind wolf crouched to the ground and waited for the opportune time to strike. Fawkes had circled around and called out to her when an opening came. The grey wolf lunged forward and let her teeth sink into flesh. Her crushing bite wrapped around the moose's neck, destroying it's windpipe. A painful kick registered in her side, but it was only powerful enough to bruise her hip. Hotaru might be sore in the morning, but at least she would eat well that night.

It was several minutes before the moose finally collapsed to the ground. For a sick thing, the beast was strong. Still, Hotaru held on as if to confirm it was dead. The adrenaline coursed through her veins and her blood sounded like thundering drums in her ears. The wound on her foreleg had already started to clot and slowly the pain from both her wounds became noticeable. When she had calmed down Hotaru dropped the moose's neck and howled in triumph. She had done it! She had actually successfully hunted a moose.
