“Oh, Wilson does look delicious, doesn’t he?” Levent agreed brashly when the green-eyed man explained his gyrfalcon’s intentions. His tone was for the sake of his feline companion, more of a jab at him than for the wolf’s ears. It had its intended effect, anyway; the feline stiffened from his shoulders to the tip of his tail in one fluid movement, and Lev laughed. “He’s used to having people trying to kill him. It’s a pity, but at least we don’t have to worry about your bird once he learns not to dive at everything in sight.” The obnoxious tone of voice had faded away into something more serious, and a quick glance at the stranger showed that he hoped the bird would get some training.

After the tomcat got his payback, however, the joking mood faded away though it was no less friendly. The Turkish luperci continued to admire the bird, although he wasn’t envious of the grip of talons on the man’s arm. He smirked sheepishly at the question, his blue eyes following the others’ to the various ways of entry into the old shop.

“Looking for shiny things,” Levent answered, turning his nose up. “I was born and raised a merchant”—not too untrue considering his father and his own eventual occupation, even if he was a thieving street rat during his youth—“and I’ve not gotten out of the habit of searching for more things to trade.” He crossed his arms and nodded at the falcon’s claws. “Might be able to get hold of a gauntlet or something for you; that can’t be comfortable.” He idly traced a cat-scratch-scab on his own arm, muttering under his breath, “Eğer mazoşist değilseniz.”
