Isa's arms wrapped around him, and he couldn't help the flashes in his mind. It was the past repeating, holding someone he cared for close and wiping away their tears. True, he didn't love Isa, but he hadn't always loved Selene either. If he fell in love with Isa, would he simply hurt her? It terrified him, knowing that he might one day injure Isa. If he did, would she end up broken beyond repair? Would she leave like Selene, alone without protection? What could he do to stop that from happening?
The tears were gone for now at least. If only Hadley was a stronger person. Perhaps then he could make sure that she didn't have to cry. Perhaps then he could stop himself from hurting her, from continuing down this path. All he could think of doing was making sure she felt loved, make sure that he spent all the time he could with her, make sure that she knew he cared. Nuzzling in Hadley took a deep breath, kissing her cheek softly. I love you Isa. His words were a gentle lie, holding her close.
