The look that Isa gave him, trusting yet confused, stabbed at him. What else could he say though? Hadley cared for her, wanted to protect her, wanted no one else near her. He knew that it would be better if she chose someone other than him to love and be with. That it was safer with someone else. Someone who would actually love her and give her the care she deserved, instead of a second best effort. He held her as close as he dared, careful not to injure her. It was nice that Isa wasn't so tiny he had to worry about breaking her like he did with the others he'd cared for.
He opened her mouth to reassure her that he wasn't just saying it because she was in heat. He was over possessive and crazy about her, but he wouldn't say that thoughtlessly. It had too much meaning to be taken lightly and said in the heat of the moment. The news that Selene had moved on reached him however, and Hadley froze. She was gone? He had known that she wouldn't be returning, that he had hurt her too much for that, that they couldn't be together. Some small part of him had hoped though. Pushing that painful stabbed feeling away he nuzzled Isa softly, letting her presence comfort him.
