As his tongue lapped at her wounds and fur, Malakai felt the female return the favour, feeling the sting as she did so, but he also heard her whine. Something inside of him tensed at the noise, and he knew it was a noise that cut to his very soul. He had caused her to growl, to grow frustrated and angry, and that was fine. But now, she was guilty and sad, and that wasn't fine. He nodded lightly as she asked if he was okay, and let his eyes fall to see the wounds she sported at her flank, seeing her limp just a little. Again, something inside him tensed knowing that he had done that to her. Kai faught all he time. He loved the thrill of it, the adrenaline, the competition, the winning, the taste of blood... But not hers. The fact that he seemed so concerned about her, about how she was, scared him a little. He had to stop himself calling after her or following to make sure she made it back to her den okay.
Was he going soft then? As she mentioned she wished people to think they had been attacked by some other creature, Kai simply nodded in reply. He knew it wasn't the shame of showing that she had sustained wounds, but that she had lost control and attacked in the first place. He would do as she asked of him and spin a story about a mountain lion. Of course, he would say that they bested the animal and sent it off with deep wounds, making it rethink any future attacks on Anathema lands.
As the female headed off, Kai watched her go, the scent of her blood lingering in the air before his eyes lowered to the bag she had left. She didn't make any motion to turn around to collect it, and so padding over to it, now carrying a limp of his own, so soon after his original flank injury had healed, his head bowed and he grabbed the back in his jaws. Turning back towards the dens, Kai trotted slowly back, through the forest but knew he would be back here soon enough, for more experimentation on poor innocent bunnies and which parts could be removed with the greatest amount of pain.
Kai would take the bag back to Anathema headquarters, as he thought of it, and would leave the bag at the enterence to the female's den, so she would find it when she eventually returned.
