I can't do this alone

It was hard to leave his mother, so seemingly alone in the neutral territories of the north. Yes she had Cypress, Oak and she had the woman she spoke of named Tayui. There was the orchard and the small pony Engelmann. But it was not the same as Crimson Dreams and he felt that he left her without much protection. It saddened him to know that she was basically on her own. Alder knew nothing but the pack and had never lived without it, would she be able to live without it?

He wordlessly asked the question as he rode east, the pace slow and thoughtful. Hawthorn moved just as he asked, slow and steady with no true need to return home. The Court could do without their Marshal for another night if that’s what it took for the tree-named male to travel back.

The black stallion snorted, finding the pace and intention quite too passive, but obeyed his companion’s wishes. There had been apples during their last visit and there was nothing better then apples, even if they were still small and hard and tart. Alder gave the horse a pat on the neck, and spoke a horse-like sound that was the hoofed creatures word for thanks.

The pair continued on until the landscape began to resemble that of a farmstead. The wolf, always seeking out left over human materials, found it the perfect opportunity for rest and perhaps a place to keep during the night. He slid from the Shire horse’s back and led him though the overgrown property. The scent of another lingered, the stark scent of a wolf against the rest of the stale smells of the greenery around them.

Blue eyes sought out the inevitable, while his nose worked to follow the wafting trail. There was a horse among them as well, the distinct scent something the Marshal instantly recognized. Alder was a cautious creature, and slowly moved until the pasture came into view.

The female stood in the distance, inside the fenced area. A stallion stood with her, and yet it was not in a way that said they knew one another. That body language was distinct even with the distance. Not wishing the others any harm Alder asked ‘Thorn to stay silent as they closed the distance. He gave a hard clear of his throat to perhaps get the other canine’s attention.
