I can't do this alone

Alder watched carefully, but he did not stare with eyes boring holes into the horse’s own. When the female took his silent instruction and came beside him he let his arm fall to match his right. He kept them loose, knowing that tension in or waving of his limbs would only cause the horse more distress. The stallion was threatened, his stance and pounding of hooves made it obvious. His ears moved as well, telling Alder that he did not wish for him to come any closer. At time such as that the male paused, and let the horse express himself. A stamp of a hoof or a toss of the head. Once the beast stood still once more did the Marshal approach again.

The female seemed to follow well. Though Alder did not wish to say he knew what he was doing without hesitation, he was confident that he could read the horse as it spoke through it’s body. Catching him, was another thing. Alder could not predict that.

The horse raised its head, shaking it but his ears were forward and he could see no tension in them once he settled down. They were taking in the sounds of the wolves, and nostrils worked through their different pack scents. Noticing the change from threat to examine Alder spoke out a reassuring word in his practiced horse tongue. To tell him that they meant no harm. He had heard horses say such things in the pastures. The wolf paused, to show that he indeed was nothing to fear. After a moment’s silence he spoke of his mouth, in the brief and vague way low-speech beasts were capable. It must hurt, from the worn halter he wore.
