Alder didn’t hear the call that came after a passing of time; he had already disappeared round the barn and out into the wilderness that surrounded the stables. None of it had to do with Trent going to see Strelein because he was a Serf and had been demoted. It was because Trent showed so much compassion for someone that hadn’t done a thing for him and he had forgotten Alder. Hadn’t he?
Alder raked a clawed hand across his chest, eyes peering out into the thin wood as he headed home. Angrily he growled to himself, shamed and embarrassed. Confused and hating himself for caring so much about one single being. And not understanding why it mattered at all. He kept off the trail, taking the long way to his cabin rather then the short path that was normal for him.
