The hard and strange ground under of travel wasn’t really all that strange. If anything, it was still a familiar feeling for the Issum after his travels that had only ended a few weeks before. But, familiar or not, they were not welcome. Jaden knew himself to be a home sick wolf now. Before, when he belonged to nothing and had only himself to worry on it was different and much harder to notice. There was simply no home to miss. But now he knew with a beautiful body to love and numerous responsibilities there was simply nowhere else he’d rather be.

The only thing keeping him from that comfort now were the unnamed responsibilities. On his journey Jaden had learned that their closest neighbors were rather stuck up and unwilling to work for peace. Vinátta and its leaders were thereby labeled as a body the dark male could not trust. With feelings of superiority, discomfort at Sangi’lak’s closeness, and much larger numbers, there was no telling what they might decide to do about their unwanted nomad neighbors. So this day he was scouting about near the northern edge of Vinátta and looking for anything worth note. Streams were a good point for penetrating a guarded territory and leaving no scent to be found. Dense forest or dangerous rocky out crops offered the same possibility. Perhaps it wasn’t a good thing that he treated these wolves as enemies already but if they weren’t with him they were against him, right? That was the saying and it seemed to hold some value here.

For a fair amount of time he walked on four strong secui legs without straying noticeably close to the marked line. With a mind full of many different thoughts and eyes occupied with finding weakness, it was incredibly easy to lose track of just how far he had traveled. Before long the salty smell of sea water pulled him back to the present moment and he smiled to himself. The sea always held a wondrous attraction for the Alaskan. Even with his fear of the water itself the beauty in it was undeniable. He sped his steps a bit until the water came into view. It was indeed the salt of sea water but it wasn’t the same. He pressed his paws into the sandy shore and looked out disappointedly. There was no endless stretch of blue-green water. Land and ugly, broken human buildings could be seen on the other end of the inlet. He sat on the soft bay with a sigh and looked over his left shoulder to the board of Vinátta. It ran all the way to the sea water. He wondered idly if the same scentless penetration tactic could be used here but let it go with his disappointment. It was now time to turn back toward the comfort of home but he wanted to take a moment and tried to enjoy the sea water so close even if the view was marred. The beauty was something he missed.

Jaden does. Jaden speaks. Jaden thinks.
