He caught Andre glaring at him and put on a sickeningly sweet smile; yeah, hi, I see you, too, it seemed to say. Just because this business here wasn't personal didn't mean he'd be any less of a jackass--Anselm wasn't the sort that needed to be told twice, and he'd been warned about this kid several times over. Gabriel's command snapped him back to attention, although little recognition was given other than a light flick of his ears.
It was certainly very strange how adrenaline could dilate time, making everything run together and so slowly all at once. It was fortunate in a way, for timing would be everything. Andre's posture revealed that he was paying close attention to both Inferni males, and in some ways this seemed like an all or nothing shot. If Anselm moved too soon, Andre might come after him and Gabriel might not react quickly enough to cover him. It took a leap of faith, but he would go with the original plan.
He danced around Andre, shuffling closer and sometimes backing away. He moved quickly from side to side, never staying in one place long enough for Andre to get used to the idea of him being "exactly there." His eyes never left the hand with the knife. The second that Andre started to swing it down toward Gabriel, he would leap. He wouldn't do it any sooner, and he wouldn't wait too long. He'd leap forward and sink his teeth into that hand or the boy's wrist, hopefully causing him to drop it or maybe even to damage his hand entirely.
