Bury me six feet under.

Umbra was gone. The male had left without even saying good bye, although Adelaida wasn’t sure that she should have expected it. They had only met a handful of times, so the attachment the masked female felt for the male was unfounded, but all the same he had been a friend, and one that she had planned on sticking with through thick and thin. If only he hadn’t disappeared. Adelaida only noticed his absence because she had sought him out. Alexey wasn’t speaking to her, and while the chinchilla Pickles had chosen Adelaida over her sister the rodent didn’t provide the canine companionship Adelaida craved. Umbra should have been there to fill that gap, but he was no where. Nor was his scent, or any other signs he had been around. And if he was anywhere, it would have been here.

Chocolate colored paws padded along the lakeshore, sometimes stepping on wet sand and sometimes wandering off into the water. Her feet were soaked but it did not matter, the sky was colored gray and droplets of rain pelted the earth with what Adelaida imagined to be a fury of the heavens. Perhaps mother nature could sense the disappointment and hurt that Adelaida felt, or so the two year old would like to believe. With Pickles safely asleep in their dry den, Adelaida was more alone than ever, and it was comforting to think that something, anything, empathized with her. So it rained, and it rained hard, and Adelaida did not mind at all, because it rained for her. The two toned fur stuck to her body, she looked as pathetic as she felt, which was fine, as Adelaida didn’t imagine there was anyone to watch her suffering, and even if they saw her, they wouldn’t know just how miserable she felt at this moment. So miserable in fact, it was hard to imagine life could be any worse.
