The sunlight filtered weak and thin through holes in the crumbling building, shedding light into the gloom and landing on tawny tan fur. The shadows shifted restlessly as Corsair lifted his head wearily, blinking as his eyes were suddenly exposed to the pale light. He wasn’t entirely sure of his location, but he hadn’t cared enough for awhile to ever know where he was. This time, it was different. For the first time ever since about half a year or so ago, he studied his surroundings without that look of utter despair in his eyes. Some of it was still there true, but thanks to the reasoning and reassurances -- harsh as they had been -- that the black wolf -- Garnet was it? -- had unleashed upon him, it could be said that he now had in his possession what his life had been totally lacking for a long time. Hope. It was such a tiny flame, flickering weakly inside him, but it was start. “Where….am I?” He murmured softly, the lilting words lost in the emptiness. Rising from the corner where he’d taken up residence for the night, he made an attempt at standing up ramrod straight and failed, resuming his usual hunched posture only with a notch straighter than usual. It was difficult to change well-practiced habits so abruptly after all, it was better to ease into it.

The sound of voices floated through the air, faint but close. Corsair reacted instinctively, taking a few quick steps backwards in retreat before he registered his actions. Laughing nervously to himself, he regained his composure and walked hesitantly forwards, stopping in the doorway of the building. A glittering coat of snow that carpeted the word met his eyes and a faint smile, reluctant as it was, appeared on his face. The voices still disturbed him, made him edgy, but he’d promised that he would at least attempt to confront his ‘so-called fear’. Reluctantly dragging himself out of the building and around the corner, two wolves came into view, or rather, two luperci. He shrank back at the sight, unwilling, for a few moments, to make a move. Unreasonable dread built up inside him, panic starting to creep into the edges of his mind. He couldn’t do this. It wouldn’t work. All the negativity built up and he struggled to control it, suppress it. Forcing himself forwards, he approached the two, a somewhat uneasy smile on his face. “Hello….am I interrupting something?” His words were soft, halting and accented. Corsair wasn’t sure if he even had enough knowledge about social etiquette to re-enter society anymore, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t going to try. It would be nice, he thought to himself, to be able to walk without fear anymore. He only wondered if he would be able to put the past behind him and start anew, as unlikely as it seemed at the moment.
