...the world's smallest violin

These days Haku was perhaps a bit too quick to judge the intention behind words. He did not assume that his sister was like the rest, but the possibility was always there, and the topic about Deuce and Willow was very delicate to him at time being. Souls liked their witch hunt more than anything, and he did not like to be the target of such a progress. Instead of the negative, could people never take a quick glance at the positive? If Haku killed someone, he was bad. If Haku saved someone, he was still bad! That was how he looked at this situation. He had saved Deuce and her children from possible starvation and whatever else. His face smoothed out when his sister reassured him that she had not meant it in a negative way. Amused, though. Well, she was an outsider and would not be dragged into the hell that Firefly would create when he was to tell her. Of course it was a horrible thing to bring his bastard daughter and earlier lover into the pack. It would be a disgusting proof of his scattered loyalty to her. He had shamed her by doing this, but he put more importance into life than his and Firefly’s pride. The Lilium just wished the rest of the pack could see that as well, but he knew very well that this would probably not be the case. He knew his pack, their need to doubt him, their need for a scapegoat. Maybe he should strengthen his grip on the pack, give them a reason to fear him.

At least he had Mew’s support. Better than nothing, much better. His ears perked when the clean tone sounded in the air. It was not unpleasant, but he did not have a particular liking for it either, to be honest. He kept that fact from his face with his perfect mask. Worst of all, it seemed to him like a complicated thing. He knew she was the most musical wolf in the pack, perhaps in all of Souls for that matter, but why would she give him an instrument. Haku had no interest in music whatsoever, and he had better things to do than to sit and attempt to learn to create sounds from it. Waste of time in his opinion. He stared at the violin while he cocked his head in ‘interest’. ”That’s sure something. It looks so complicated, but at the same time also fragile.” It did. ”I’m not very good with music and instruments, but... how many different tones are there?” It could sound like a question only designed to spite Mew, but fact was that Haku knew nothing whatsoever about violins and songs. He averted his gaze and looked away from his pale littermate. Although he knew nothing, he still despised his own ignorance. Surely his lack of knowledge would disappoint her. Mew was one of the few wolves he actually disliked to disappoint. The rest of them could rot in hell.
