Just like the ocean needs the waves.

Eyes blinked, relieving their corners of the crowding tears. Her cheeks grew wet even though no shame came to her. Hardly able to form the emotion the tears were secondary, even tertiary to the other dominant factors in her mind. She wanted to be strong, but she couldn’t gather the elements to create the power to fuel such strength and she wasn’t sure if they were even present.

Ears sagged at her head, folding downward at the lady’s words. Had she seen her? Was she well? Anu wanted to ask the questions in the chance they would dull her pain or return the smallest amount of hope, but they were fleeting and ran from her mind only to be replaced by another. Not a single one slowed or stopped long enough for her to form the words.

Cheek touched that of the dark wolfess, and Anu let her nose rest against her shoulder. Her head felt heavy, full of constantly berating thoughts. Savina had no idea how wrong her statement was. Anu looked away, wanting to shake the thought from the female. There was nothing more false. The second sentence was comforting, knowing and believing that her friend did not blame her for Geneva’s decision.

“No, it is.” Her voice was strong and solid as the statement. It was the most sure she had been expressed since the three little words said to the very wolfess they spoke of. “I can’t give her everything that she deserves. And I’ve pushed her, taking so much… “ That was her problem, Anu took what she couldn’t give in return. Geneva hadn’t left to save herself from the pain; that was only a side effect. She had left to save Anu from her own weakness.

Her voice had grown soft, and her legs no longer wanted to hold her up. Sitting back Anu looked at Savina’s paws. “How could this happen?” She didn’t think Savina would have the answer, but the question had become too big for Anu to keep locked in her brain. How did this all happen? How did Conri still walk the earth after she had sworn she would end his life? After even asking it from Onus? How was she so broken, by a female that wasn’t her mate or the mother of pups Anu called her own?

What could cause such an addiction?
